"Discard this card to add 1 to a check". Can this be done after a roll, the only card I have seen that allows a +1 to a check all ready rolled is the "luck Stone" which says "Discard this card to add 1 to your check." "if you would fail a check by 1, you may bury this card to succeed." asking cause I have seen a couple video's where the players where holding for use if a check failed by 1?

Sounds like they were playing wrong in those videos. You must play all cards and powers that add to a check or alter the difficulty before rolling the dice. The only exception, as you've noted, is the Luckstone which specifically tells you how it alters a check already rolled (and at a greater cost than if you'd played it earlier).

I suppose you can include Longspear and a couple of similar weapons as exceptions too; again, they grant you a reroll, specifically referring to "if you would fail a check". And that's only if you already used the Longspear to define the skill for the check.

You may run into a few more cards later that can affect an already failed check, but I won't spoil the specifics.

Thanks, just started playing about 2 weeks ago and we are starting Ap2 next time we meet :)

I'd agree with you. Anything that adds to a check or reduces the difficulty of a check must be played prior to the roll. Unless it specifically states that you can reroll or add "x" to a failed roll.

There's an example in the back of the rulebook under "Your Choices Matter" telling you that it's too late to play Strength on your check after you've already rolled it. Same situation.

Luckstone is an example of a card that can be played after a check. The language is clear on the card that you can do it before or after for that +1. (Before or After does affect what you do with that card after it is played however.)
