i am wondering if my animal companion needs the feat to be able to use this feat.

Improved Spell Sharing (teamwork)

Your link with your companion creature allows you to share your magic with it.

Prerequisite(s): Ability to acquire an animal companion, eidolon, familiar, or special mount.

Benefit: When you are adjacent to or sharing a square with your companion creature and that companion creature has this feat, you can cast a spell on yourself and divide the duration evenly between yourself and the companion creature. You can use this feat only on spells with a duration of at least 2 rounds. For example, you could cast bull's strength on yourself, and instead of the spell lasting 1 minute per level on yourself, it lasts 5 rounds per level on yourself and 5 rounds per level on your companion.

Once the spell is cast, you and the companion creature can move farther apart without ending the effect.

as it is worded the animal companion needs to have the feat but the pre-requisites for the feat require the ability to aquire an animal companion, eidolon, familiar or special mount.

since i know of no animal companion or other ability to obtain a animal companion i am wondering how this feat would work. (only way i could see it is making its intelligence higher and going through feats to obtain a familiar or animal companion but that would be around level 10 or so (not 100% sure on the correct level).

Thanks

I think its meant for Hunters, who can share teamwork feats with their animal companion. That way both Hunter and Animal can have the feat without the Animal needing to meet the requirements.

If you're not interested in playing a hunter, you might check out the similar (and frustratingly similarly named) Improved Share Spells

problem with the other feat is that if your animal companion moves away it looses the spell this one doesn't. but thanks for the reply :)

It also works with animal domain(or similar domain) inquisitors with solo tactics.

Thread necro! So I get how hunters use this, but it's clearly intended for all companion classes as hunters don't get eidolons, special mounts, or familiars to share teamwork feats with.

This is more an errata issue than a FAQ issue. It seems here that the prerequisite listing is simply in error. It's actually pretty superfluous, as the feat would have no use without an appropriate companion. Personally, I would rule that the prereq is not really there, and then it all makes sense. The companion needs the feat in some way for the effects to work.

Regarding Calth's solo tactics comment, this is actually inaccurate. Solo Tactics allows the inquisitor to take advantage of the teamwork feat, but the other party does NOT get the benefit of it unless it also has the feat. Fot that reason, this feat would be useless. the inquisitor would be able to split up the duration, and take half for himself, but not grant the other half the the companion that lacks the feat.

Uh, it works for inquisitors with solo tactics and animal companion, because the benefit of the feat is altered spellcasting, not the spells themselves. If somehow you had a companion with spellcasting ability, they couldn't cast shared spells without the feat, but it works fine for the inquisitor.

Thread necro. Does anyone know if this has ever been answered? As pointed out, the prerequisite heavily implies that a number of classes theoretically should be able to take some advantage of this feat, yet, as actually worded, only those rather specialized classes that let you grant a feat to your [companion] that the companion otherwise couldn't take can actually use this. Has this feat ever been clarified or errata'd?

Horsemaster's Saddle lets you share your teamwork feats with anything you can ride. Not sure if there are any familiars that you can ride, but that would seem to cover the rest.

Valet familiar has your teamwork feats.

This makes no sense to me. It should not be a teamwork feat. It should have a prerequist of whatever class can do it. If it is for hunters then make it so. Why is there no errata on this? Epic fail.

I disagree.

There are tons of feats which have 'class feature XYZ' as pre-requisites rather than the class itself. That's a good thing. It means that, as other classes with the same feature are introduced they have access to the relevant feats. For example, if all the hex related feats had 'Witch' as a pre-requisite when Witch was the only class with hexes then none of those feats would work for the various other classes that can now use hexes.
