I will be running a Play-By-Post Rise of the Runelords game on the Paizo forums. I am looking for five players.

Character Creation - Restrictions:
- 1st level
- Max HP for 1st level, half+1 for each other level
- Paizo material only (no 3rd party)
- Races: Core races (but no gnomes)
- Classes: No witches, alchemists, gunslingers, or summoners. Everything else Paizo is okay, including the Advanced Class Guide classes.
- Alignment: Any alignment is fine, but disruption due to alignment is not. Your Paladin better not try to arrest the rogue for petty theft, and your Chaotic Evil wizard better not try to kill his friends because he wants more of the loot. Keep in mind you're supposed to be heroes.
- No firearms
- 20 pt. buy
- 200 gp to start
- 2 traits

Character Creation - House Rules:
- Characters native to Sandpoint begin with a bonus 1 rank in Knowledge (Local). Non-natives get 1 rank in any other Knowledge skill.
- All characters begin with a bonus 1 rank in any Craft, Profession, or Perform skill. This skill is treated as a class skill for you.
- Characters begin play knowing all common, all racial/ethnic languages, plus one additional language if your character has a positive Intelligence bonus (not one bonus language per point). Ranks in Linguistics grant additional languages as normal.
- Racial, religion, and regional feats or traits which have no reason to be restricted to one particular race/religion/region are available to anyone with GM approval. Ask me first. Racial spells and archetypes remain restricted. Racial Heritage is allowed but get approval on what you're using it for first.

Other Requirements:
- Please be able to post at least once per day.
- Proper grammar and spelling is a must.
- Please provide a backstory for your character, including a reason why they are in Sandpoint.
- Include a short paragraph with your post in this thread to demonstrate your roleplaying/writing style. Excessive length is not necessary, just a sample will do.

Notes:
- Creativity is encouraged. When in doubt whether something will work, the answer is likely to be "Give it a try!" and if your solution is creative, circumstance bonuses abound.
- Diplomacy, Bluff, and Intimidate do not necessarily follow exact formulas.
- The Antagonize feat is banned.

Definitely interested. Have a Magus I was trying to get into a Mummy's Mask, but will rework him for Sandpoint and RotRL. XD

Dot. I'm thinking about making a sin magic specialist wizard.

Sounds good, as long as you've got a solid backstory to explain how and why you're studying a school of magic that was lost to the world 10,000 years ago.

Here is Chakka's submission...
Strolling off the docks, Umbryl smiles as he walks along.
It's good to be home again. Mom, Dad, I failed to find your killer, but I am alive, and who knows what may happen tomorrow! I wonder if Father Zantus is still here. Can't wait to see how the Cathedral has changed while I was away... And I need to see how Ameiko is doing. Hope things are well.
Shouldering his pack he heads toward the Cathedral to pay his respects. Wishing he could just go straight to the Rusty Dragon to wet his whistle and say Hi to Ameiko.

Can you post that paragraph writing sample I mentioned? Anything simple and in-character will do. I'd just like to get a feel for everyone's writing and roleplaying style.

heh. Sorry was working on it. XD

Here is void dragon's submission.

If I have to be nice to one more ignorant fool I'm going to blast him into next week.

Serol sits at his table having once again fended off an oaf who though to make friends with him.

Can't they see that I don't want to do with anyone who isn't as powerful as me?

Serol takes a sip from the wine currently in his grasp as he looks around to make sure that no-one else is paying any attention to him as he places a small scorpion back onto the table. The scorpion looks around for a bit then curls up like a dog and begins to sleep.

Looks good, though he sounds more like a Pride wizard than a Greed one. :P

You have one more first-level spell than you should though, if I'm doing my math right. The two bonus spells from being a Thassilonian Specialist overwrite the bonus spell from being a Specialist wizard, so you get 1 for being first level, 1 for having 18 int, and 2 for being a Greed specialist.

Thank-you just noticed that myself. It is now fixed.

Dot.

Will be submitting Zwain. Just need to update with your ruleset and add a sample. I've had a couple of false starts with Zwain (DM interest issues) so I've got several to choose from.

Why don't you like gnomes?
anyways, I would like to submit ravani, a human, bard, arcane duelist archetype. I'll have revamp her (she was designed for another AP that never happened) but she should be up soon.
Really, why no gnomes. Intersted people want to know.

Submitting with this character.

Darven loads up his wagon with his family farm's latest crops.

Three crates of onions, three crates of carrots, a crate of potatoes and three crates of corn. He mumbles to himself. The festival is less than a week away and he wants to sell all this by then. He hops on to the wagon and get the horse. C'mon girl, lets go.

Presenting Valeria Windsong for consideration.

Valeria wiped the sweat off her brow. The preparations for the Festival had kept things busy, and the taverns full. Particularly the Rusty Dragon. The tips she'd earned singing the night before was well worth the extra work, however, so Valeria picked up the tray of food and put on a smile and headed back out into the common room to serve up the ordered meal to some of the patrons.

"Here ya go boys, hope ya like it!" she said as she began setting their plates in front of them.

"Thanks darlin'! Ye've been workin' awful hard, for such a purty little thing. Why don'cha take a break and have a seat with us?"

Valeria smiled back at the man and replied, "Thanks, but the Dragon's far too busy for me to be takin' any kind of breaks right now. Enjoy the meal..." before starting to walk away. She could tell this one had had a few too many drinks already, and was feeling awfully confident.

But it was too late. The man reached out and slipped his arm around Valeria's waist, his greasy hand sliding over the skin of her midriff and taking a firm grip on her hip as he pulled her close. "Nonsense, hun! You know you wanna stay 'ere with me an' tha boys! Have yourself a seat right here..."

She could feel him try to pull her down onto his knee, but before he could get her off balance, Valeria reached down and gripped his thumb and wrenched it backwards, breaking his grip and eliciting a yowl of pain from the offender. She spun around, maintaining the hold on his hand and turned the man's arm backwards into an awkward, painful position. She then said, "I tried to be polite about it, but you just had to get all handsy. You ever touch me again, and you'll be losing whatever part that may be, understood?"

The man hesitated to answer, not wanting to be embarrassed in front of his friends, but Valeria gave his thumb another good crank and he let out a loud "Yes! Yes!" She let him go with a slight shove, then started to walk off. Before leaving, she knelt down and picked up the man's fork that had fallen to the floor, and said with a smile, "Here, looks like you dropped this. Have a nice day!" before walking off, howls of laughter at the rude man's expense from his friends and applause from nearby tables echoing behind her.

Dotting for interest.

Very interested (dotting). Working on a human female paladin of Shelyn, who fights with a glaive. I run several games on these boards.

Will make an alias if accepted. Thanks!

The two women held hands as they walked down the pier in the docks district of Magnimar before stopping before a gangplank crossing the gap to a ship taking on new passengers. The shorter of the two turned to the other and smiled gently, "Are you sure that must leave? Together we would make it there faster."

The taller woman sighed and turned to her younger sister, "Yes, Sylvia. We've discussed this before. Father believes that we may be able to secure more aid in Sargava, and I believe him. I promise that I will catch up with you in Kenabres."

Sylvia look at the ship and frowned, "I know, it's just that I have a bad feeling about this, Mere. I don't like it, and I wish you would just come with me. Surely father would understand..."

"Shush, Syl," the older woman assured her sister. "You should go now. Father is waiting for you, and soon you will join the crusades. I will be there soon, do not worry. Now go, before the ship leaves me here with wet cheeks and only your shoulder to cry on."

Syl smiled sadly, sniffling back a tear, "Okay. Be safe. May Shelyn see you through these troubling times."

Meredith smiled at her sister as she departed up the gangplank, "And may Iomedae guide you on your Path, as well, Syl. I will see you soon. I promise. I hear there's a festival to honor the opening of a new church in a local town. Maybe you should go there. It might bring you some cheer."

Syliva watched her sister board the ship, waving goodbye as the ship cast off. Sighing, she headed back through Magnimar as the Jenivere retreated into the distance.

Backstory:
Sylvia Jahlyn is a war priest of Shelyn. She grew up with her father and sister in Magnimar, both paladins of Iomedae. All three share a close bond with each other, and their family has recently been summoned to join the crusades against the World-wound up north.

Sylvia's father, Garret, left a month ago to prepare for his family's arrival in Kenabres, and sent for his eldest daughter to secure further aid from the Church of Iomedae in Eleder, capital of Sargava. Sylvia herself is just now beginning her journey to join her father, but has heard of the Butterfly Festival in Sandpoint which she plans to attend before setting off.

Here's Thunarr for your consideration.

He mentally thanked Jubrayl for telling him about this game as he looked around the table. Not a decent gambler here. he thinks. John, the big sailor across from him, had just got paid and was flush with confidence and money. It had cost Thunarr some coin, but he finally had the big guy figured out. Looking at the largest pot the table had seen tonight he slides ten gold coins into the center. "Damn, if I don't feel lucky tonight, Big John. But I think I'll call you." He hides a smile as John suddenly realizes that he wasn't bluffing. Sure enough Thunarr's hand takes the day, but Thunarr's attention wasn't on the pot as he raked the money in. He could see the rage building in John's eyes and with a sinking feeling he realized that this wasn't going to end well. He reacted before John did and as John pulled the knife, Thunarr grabed the hand and twisted at the wrist making John drop the knife. "Calm down, John. No need to get violent." he says. Sensing movement behind him he twists and the dagger that was headed for his kidneys scraped across the chain shirt he had hidden under his vest. That was it. Nobody tried to kill him and got away with it. Thunarr punches John's friend twice, taking him to the ground. Startled, John reaches again for the dagger, but finds it kicked from his grasp. Well, I'd say that's it for this game "Thank you gentlemen for an wonderful evening." he says as the fills his sack up with his winnings. He picks up the dagger on the floor. "Oh, I think I'll take this, John. Someone might get hurt." and he warily heads back to Fatman's Feedbag.

Thunarr's parents were archeologists. His early childhood was happy, his parents would take him along and he would spend hours playing in the digs while his parents worked. One day when he was 12, he was coming back to his parent's work site when he noticed some horses there that hadn't been there when he left. Sneaking back, he saw that his parents were in a heated discussion with some men wearing tabards and armor. To his horror, they killed his parents in cold blood, right in front of him. They had been talking about a book, and Thunarr was pretty sure he knew where it was. His father hadn't actually taken it out of the dig site yet. Running to the dig site he retrieved the book and headed towards town to find someone to help. Upon arrival at the city, he noticed that the town's marshall was actually talking to some people wearing the same tabards and seemed to be on good terms with them. At that point, he just ran. He ran until he stumbled into a Sczami camp. They took him in. They taught him how to gamble, how to con and steal. He grew to love them as his surrogate parents. Now he goes from town to town, gambling, and has come to Sandpoint where he has looked up Jubrayl, the Sczami contact in the town. The book was written in Aklo and was an ancient book of unarmed techniques. He has studied some of it but still has a long way to go.

Writing sample below and profile update:

A wild-eyed man staring into his beer for the past few moments, hears something, gets up and walks over to the group. "Extra hands you say? I know a fellow who has four. I may be able to duplicate that given time. I'll have to study you for a while and get your bio-rhythms down, but I'm certain it could be done. Fairly simple when you think about it. Are you certain you want to improve upon this design that's worked for you all these years?"

The simply clothed man leans on his well-made steel-shod staff and stares at Mannon, squints, and then pats his hand sympathetically, "Or is it because you're old. You need an edge, eh? Perhaps an alternative to fleshmaking or other horrific necromantic things. I've got a book somewhere. Take me some time to find a better plan than your ridiculous 'extra hands' spell. Certainly I'll come along. I'm surprised it took you so long to ask."

He turns to head outside, wheels about quickly, "Ah, where are we headed again?"

Very interested! I have several ideas... I'll give it some thought and be back soon.

I'd like to play but I've never pbp'ed before. I've got quite a bit of free time though. I could post frequently. Is there any class that would be useful to the group?

Since there are currently no full divine casters (Oracle or Cleric) that would be a low competition area. Otherwise I suggest for you to make what you want to play since you don't know who is going to be picked until it is over.

I may just submit 2 then, but I'll inform which ones are me so that I don't get picked twice. Ima try and format my character sheet the best I can but I'm new to pbp so hopefully I'm granted a little mercy

A great adventurer once told me. "When in doubt copy someone else's format." ;)

I don't think anybody would mind if you copied their format, but if you want to play it safe I'm fine with you copying my format if it seems helpful.

dotting for interest will make something ranged.

Scarab Sages

Just to double check on the traits we do not have to take one of the campaign traits? Are we allowed to take one of the campaign traits?

Hey! I'm working on a paladin, and I'll have details up as soon as possible.

Here is the nine's entry into this wonderful gathering. Everything should be set.

He was just finishing up things at the stable. The festival was soon and the little bit of added coin would indeed be worth the sweat and grime of mucking the stables after brushing the horses. Again Corrin was glad that ol' Daviren Hosk had good memories of his father. Between the man's stories (told with and between tales of goblin genocide)and his mother's journal it was all he knew of the man.

He left the stables finally, a light sweat coating his skin as he took off his shirt before he head torwards the small home he shared with a few fellows who worked the mill. It was a warm enough night out but the cool air certainly felt good as he made his way home. perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 when he noticed that dark haired beauty that worked down at the Pixie's Kitten and he blushed. He had indeed seen her before, at the market and had even gone so far as to inquire her name. Riessa was as pretty as her name.

'Calm down Corrin, she's a working girl, to please a lass like her you need coin, and plenty of it.' He thought to himself as he fumbled with his key to the door. He glanced over and froze when he realized she was indeed watching him. Crimson flaired along his fair skin and he darted indoors breathing hard.

Working the mill's during the day and Mucking stalls at night had left him tired but he had promised his coworkers from the mill that he was going to meet them that night for one of the boy's birthday's It was just a matter of changing out of the dirty clothing now. He looked at the gear he barely wore now, except of course when the town militia was called in stacked up in the corner.Hero's... ladies like hero's in the stories. Maybe tomorrow evening he would ask ol' Daviren a little more about goblin hunting. Perhaps he could make a bigger name for himself, earn coins from such efforts and then he could...He shook those thoughts away, Plenty of time to dream of being a hero and getting the maidens to swoon tomorrow. He was late as it is.

A small sampling If you would like I could also post up an example or two of combat actions I have taken in that past so you can get some idea of that as well.

I'm personally getting a kick out of the possibility that I just roughed up one of your buddies at his birthday party. Ha!

I hope you did, he is a jerk who drinks too much, more like an acquaintance really, you know how it is working those minimum wage jobs trying to make ends meet. Room mates are always a crapshoot.

*reads through them* Neat! Where are these sourced from? I'm not familiar with the ones not on d20pfsrd. Are they official RotRL traits?

In any case, they all look fine to me (if a bit over the power curve for traits, in a few cases). Feel free to select one for your characters, everyone (but only one, of course).

Hero Lab has all but Black Sheep, Favored Son/Daughter and Outlander as being sourced from the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition. The above three are in the Advanced Player's Handbook on page 330 as an example of campaign traits for a module called Shadows Under Sandpoint.

Ive still got to pick a deity and also my traits. I'll get to it today, it was getting late last night lol

Here is my RotRL character. Need to check that he meets creation rules but otherwise complete.

This is Lucendar's submission. Working on the back story.

Im going to go with Sarenrae. Apparently ill be an oddball for using a warhammer but im ok with that I guess. I really want the healing domain. Do I need to write a backstory?

I think Zoruk is now fully adjusted. Let me know otherwise. Also I am a little foggy on the languages house rule, could you explain it a little more?

Writing Sample:

Feeling the need for a little noise, exotic food, and perhaps a touch of music he took his seat at an empty table in the Rusty Dragon. Placing a light order he broke open a tome to study his latest copies of a minor ruin's carvings.

Such a vast magical empire, even the smallest outpost had traces of their magic and civilization.

Once his meal arrived he allowed it to cool as he poured over another tome he had produced from a pocket. This one holding his newest acquired spell from a rather cold and pale traveler heading towards Korvosa. He had traded one of his favored spells for it. While his spell was one of disarming, he had gained a spell to weaken. It seemed a fair trade. Closing the tome he ate his meal and left for the Curious Goblin. He would see if he could sell or trade his newest findings to Chask Haladan.

Chask may be tight fisted with his coin concerning himself but he pries it open when he see's something he likes.

A backstory would be nice, yes.

Zoruk Magnu wrote:

Each character begins with the languages they'd normally have for their race and ethnicity (i.e. Common and Elven for an elf). Then, if their Intelligence is 12 or higher, they get one extra language.

I just really have a pet peeve for characters who are dodecalingual at level 1 with zero ranks in the skill that represents studying other languages.

Just checking to be sure, but are you OK with the Cosmopolitan Feat. Thunarr used it to get Bluff and Sense Motive as class skills and it also grants two additional languages.

Alight then as I understand it, need to reduce Zoruk's languages a bit. Should be all good now. ;)

Edit- Sense I have a little time, PC list update. Correct me if I make any mistakes.

@Zoruk, Under the myriad entries for Melee, please put down Thunarr, although he might actually count as skilled.

Corrin is also a ranged fighter
