charging / bull rushing

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I was a game tonight and it came up and stumped the dm and me. There was a archer up in a tree and wanted him down so I charged. The tree had a ac of 4 hardness 15 or something like that hp of 50 but no cmb/cmd. So question is how would you play it out or is there a way to do ? Any would help because I most likely will try it agin lol

I would make it a charge against the tree against the burst DC for the thickness and a reflex save for the archer to hold on with a base DC of 15 modified by how close you came to succeeding in breaking the tree.

I think I'd rule on it depending on intent.

If you were trying to give the tree a sharp jolt to shake the archer out, I think I'd rule it as a bull rush against the archer, but the archer gets no AoO and you can't follow up (a tree trunk being in your way). Of course, this likely will mean that on any success the archer will fall out of the tree and take falling damage, but if you fail it'll have no impact.

If you were trying to snap the trunk and just knock the whole tree down (which would definitely deny the archer his perch), I'd have you make a break check for wood; if successful, I'd have the archer make a balance check to ride the tree down; if he failed, I'd give him half the falling damage (since he's supported and slowed by the tree) and have him fall prone as the tree strikes the ground.

I think it would depend heavily on the size of the tree. Unless you were massively strong, I'd probably say any tree large enough to hold a medium humanoid isn't going to be easily shaken by another medium humanoid.

I would probably tell you that you can't simply shake him out. You'd have to cut down the tree.

Also I think the tree should probably have 10hp per inch of thickness, so unless the tree was only 6 inches around it should probably have more than 60 hp.

Good point. For some reason, I was thinking he said it was only a 4" trunk (there are some species of trees that could take a hunter's blind with that thin of a trunk, but not many).

Has anyone ever flying kicked a tree with a friend up there?
Man, fun times.
