Shhh.... don't spread it around but I lured him into a pit with twinkies then filled the hole with warm water and soap. He was starting to smell to much for me to handle. I covered the hole with some boards. I'll release him after he has soaked a little bit longer.

I think he's begun his sojourn in Chile.

So what's the scoop? Is the only starting role with functionality (in a cold start) a mage for this next build?

As a starter, that is.

Will the loot drops be changed to exclude the gear we have been seeing?

I'm not sure where this is coming from- wizards are no less gear-dependent than any other class. And I haven't seen anything that would suggest the +0 gear drops will be going away.

Left field. It is where I farm most questions.

I haven't tried the wizard yet. I suppose that I assumed they had low lvl range capabilities, not related to staves or wands...

Edit: The question about the gear was because The blog included something about conditions closer to what EE will be and that they wanted to see how long it takes to get up and running from "cold". If the +0 will still drop, it will be pretty easy.

Cantrip attacks are slotted into wands or staves in exactly the same way slashing attacks are slotted into swords.

I think the real test in cold start is how long does it take to get a real production engine going for +2 or better gear, without it being gifted from the devs or crafted by 100K XP crafters. The free +0 drops won't do much to get the economy off the ground, they'll just make the very first few days a little easier.

(Although in some cases, *coughleatherarmorcough*, those +0 drops will be the only option for close to a month.)

Soap? He's probably dead by now, good job!

What are we supposed to accomplish in a cpl days of Alpha?

Impress the devs by overcoming the logistical challenges required to make some +1 stuff. Or, entertain them greatly by failing.

I don't imagine there's going to be a wipe between this upcoming weekend and next, so any recipes learned and skill gains this week will carry through, along with a big stack of XP. I could be wrong on that though.

Start naked with a club.
Nothing to buy, nothing to buy with (no coin).
Train up club skill. Train some harvest/gather/refine skill. Train appropriate craft.
Go gather or with groups of others get loot drops.
Bring back and trade to get refine materials.
Refine.
trade for other refined materials.
Craft Trade swords/bows for armor or what have you.
Dress and armor
Rinse and repeat

(Theme will vary for wizards ands clerics needn't wands or focus and wizard or cleric armors.)

I believe spend-able money and some sort of market are planned for the same build as the cold start.

Where is the money spent to buy things?

Fifth, we plan to introduce storage, the auction houses, and some fundamental "banking" services to allow players to buy and sell things.

So cold start this week, economy next week? This could be a rough weekend.
