A question on firearms in SnS

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So on firearms cards it says reveal for a die roll and you can additionally bury for more if you did not bury roll a d6 or a d12 on a 1 shuffle it into your deck Why would I want to roll a higher sided die to but it back in my hand thus lowering my chances to use it again. Also am I required to either bury or roll to shuffle every time or can I just reveal it?

When you play it, you options are:

Option 1: Reveal it and then roll to see if it gets shuffled into your deck or left in your hand.

Option 2: Bury it.

The reason you get to roll a d12 if you are proficient with weapons is the 1 on a d12 is half as likely as a 1 on a d6. And you don't want to get the 1, because you want to keep it in your hand, not shuffle it into your deck.

Normal weapons stay in your hand when you use them unless you discard it for an extra effect.

Guns on the other hand are tricky, they jam and break so even when you just use them normaly some times they still end up back in you hand.

So you keep it if you get anything other than a 1? And only bury it if you want to for the extra bonus? I guess the word order on the card is just confusing me.

Yeah. It's a choice. Bury to get a bonus die or don't go for the bonus die, but have a risk that you roll a 1 and it get's shuffled into the deck.

I guess I found my confusion. In a previous post from Paizo it staed on a bad roll you might bury a gun and thats why the gunslinger is good. But I guess that post was worded bad?

You can buy the card for an extra bonus.

If you do NOT bury the card for an extra bonus you roll a die after your check. If that die comes up a 1 you bury the card (or shuffle it into your deck) anyway.

I'm not certain of this, but I think on one of the previews they did show a gun that got buried on misfire (want to say dragon gun?) That's probably what they were referring to.

What's good about the gunslinger is that if she plays a gun and it gets buried or shuffled into her deck, she can bury or shuffle a different card instead and hold onto her gun.

She's got other good points as well, but that's what they were talking about. Guns have a downside that the Gunslinger mitigates, and that's what makes her good.

Guns are going to be one of those things that, at first glance, you might say "I never want to use that." I felt that way about Amiri's power to bury cards to add to certain checks. Burying cards seems so bad. But once I tried out Amiri I thought her power was awesome. So I'm going to give guns a chance.

Fixed that for you.

Ha! As if I'd still have armor in my hand to do that! I'd have to misfire the turn I drew the armor. XD

So has anybody even received their copy of SnS yet?

I picked mine up at Gencon. Been playing around with it for about a week.

Unfortunately I couldn't attend Gencon. Has anyone received their shipments of SnS base set? From Paizo or Amazon?

Paizo started shipping base sets yesterday. My UPS tracking # now shows my box has left WA and projected delivery of Wednesday. I have not seen it in stock anywhere and my FLGS says their distributors don't have it yet.

My order went out late last night as well. Technically my order was completed two hand half weeks ago, so it still says I have promos and the add on in the box. I have no idea if any of that is accurate, but it may be that those of us who were billed early are getting our full shipment. Or we may all be in the same boat.

Sovereign Court

They've specifically said that Add On decks are going out in September, for everyone.
