Seeking Suggestions for Scenario as Lead-in to Iron Gods

Hello folks. I seek your GMing and playing expertise: what do you think would be a good scenario (or shorter module) to use as a lead-in to the actual Iron Gods AP and story arc?

The AP assumes your characters have met, even if only briefly, so I was looking for a single-session scenario to run that would establish this brief familiarity. I am willing to tweak certain story threads within the scenario to make them fit the AP and the Player Charactrs, but unfortunately I do not have the time to create something from scratch due to real world responsibilities (hence this request).

My first thought was "The Confirmation," but I don't believe the players are all interested in being official Pathfinders. My second thought was "Trial by Machine," scenario 6-01, since this new scenario seems to fit the Iron Gods thematically at least: if anyone is familiar with "Trial by Machine," do you have any suggestions on modifications to better fit it within the Iron Gods/Torch setting?

Why do you feel them having met requires an adventure? I am planning on having it handled in joint character creation and background development. The players will decide how they met and lay it out in their backstories, even if its just 'We all heard about what happened in torche and asked around town for others who wanted to help'. There isnt a need for this to be played out at the table.

I do appreciate that feedback, and they are considering it as they create their characters. To answer your question, I don't feel it "requires" this, but rather I and my players prefer having some context and shared history (both as characters and as players, since they haven't played together before) that exists "off the page" so to speak, as well as on it. Even further, I wanted to use this initial scenario to instruct the players who are new to roll20 in how to use it.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Master of the Fallen Fortress can be modified to fit anyplace, and doesn't require Pathfinder status. It can also be made more in depth by placing a few Easter Eggs related to your AP campaign inside, or shortened by removing some of the one-off encounters.

You could even replace the young troglodytes with ratfolk scrappers (Fires of Creation, p. 47), and Tuloc with a scrapwall fanatic (Fired of Creation, p. 46). Possibly replace Tasskar and Snapjaw with a fully operational Collector Robot (Fires of Creation, p. 84) - and the object of the ratfolk's raid.

Replace Balenar Forsend with Sanvil Trett - just to twist the knife a little more when he eventually turns on the heroes.

Three issues ...

  • Master of the Fallen Fortress also presumes that the heroes know each other.
  • If you track experience, then it will throw off the progression.
  • Could such a structure logically be sited nearby Torch?
