Promos and "Upgrading Your Deck" in Organized Play

Out of curiosity, if Promo cards are used in an Organized Play box, what happens if one or more are acquired during play? According to the "Upgrading Your Deck Rules", you would normally put all the cards acquired during play in the middle of the table and determine upgrades based on the Set Indicator, but I'm unsure how that would work with a Promo Cards.

In order to encourage use of Promo Cards I wonder if they should count as the Set number of the Scenario being played. Otherwise using them potentially denies the table upgrades.

Of course... I could just be mus-understanding how the upgrading rules work.

you would be able to acquire a card of that type and level. Seeing as Promo's don't have a level and can all be placed in the box on day one? My guess is that they will be played as B/C cards.....

Or, lets be honest, no one wants the 'promo' card because it can't be placed in their own decks. Chances are most people won't select that as a desireable card.

What I am waiting to see is how the upgrading process in general works. what if none of the cards that are up for grabs appear in your deck, does it just go by type and level at that point and swap out a similar card? what if you get a gun, but none of the cards in your deck are guns?

From what I read of it (have only made one pass so far), you are picking the category (weapon, armor, item etc) and deck number (B, 1, 2 etc). I believe P's (promos) are counted as B's for upgrading.

To speak to the gun example - if you pick a gun as your upgrade card, you are then going to your deck for a Weapon (as the gun is 'Weapon' type) of the deck number or lower of the card you chose. You could therefore choose a sword or bow that qualified for the deck number.

Promos ("P") are considered B level (same as C).

If the card type you end up with does not appear in your deck (eg armour for Sioni)then you don't get an upgrade.

That does make sense given the wording "You may add 12 Promos to the Base Set", but it probably would be best to clarify that in the Upgrading Your Deck area (for both P and C)

We will change this:

to this:

When you choose a card from the play area, instead of adding it directly to your character deck, choose a card from your Class Deck box of the same type with a set indicator no higher than that of the chosen card (for this purpose, treat the set indicators B, C, and P as 0).

When you log an upgrade or reward or booty on your sheet, let's say Item 1, and during the play of the next scenario you banish said Item. When rebuilding your deck after the scenario's conclusion, do you still have access to an Item of level 1? Or do you have to go to Basic level?

(I guess you'd also have to consider whether there were Items in the upgrades of that next scenario.)

You have to follow the standard rules, which means if there's an appropriate card in your upgrades, you can use it, and if there's not, you can't.

but waht about starting with Promo cards? esp from ROTR, in S&S OP

Are you asking if you can start with them in your deck? No. You can only start with cards in the class decks and there aren't any promo cards in the class decks.

Eric is correct. In the Guide you'll find they talk about that specifically.

And since you don't actually add cards in play (from the base set) to your deck as upgrades, Promos are considered level 0 (pg. 7).
