I councur on this request. The lack of transparency has been horrid in this case, and has truly damage Paizo's reputation for me (I am one of the ones that has already been charged, but for whom UPS has not received a package). If I haven't seen an update by about 3 PM today, I am likely going to unleash a ruckus on their poor phone service reps who probably don't deserve it...

Yeah, if someone from the warehouse would just pop in and say "We're shipping a bunch of them today, please be patient" I would actually feel a lot better at the moment.

I just got off the phone with customer service, and finally it looks like we have some information about what's been going on. Apparently, there was an issue with the Character Add-On decks, which they were trying to get resolved but were unable to before the shipping deadline. The base sets are supposed to be shipped today, and the Character add-ons will be sent next month with Adventure deck 2.

I made it clear in my discussion with the representative, but I want to repeat it here to make it clear: this was the wrong way to handle this. The lack of information, and silence right up until the deadline did nothing but create confusion and frustration for the customers. As soon as there was an issue, it should have been publicly announced. At the very least, when it looked like it would be right up to the deadline, an explanation should have been made available. I hope in the future, if there is ever an event like this again, we will have greater transparency regarding issues such as these.

Thanks for the info! It's kinda sad that this didn't come from a CS rep. I completely agree with you.

Hmm... seems like that could have an impact on the first few weeks of organized play, depending on when next month's shipment happens.

I wouldn't hold my breath. I'm one of the few people who isn't happy with Paizo's customer service, but it's not worth it for me to cancel due to the promo cards. If they had not included the 4 promo cards with this shipment, I would have cancelled. I've decided that the best way to not be disappointed is to add on two "time periods" to whatever the release date is. So in this case, it said early August, so I have been expecting to receive it in late August. My hope has always been that I would recieve it by August 30th, but I'm not sure that will happen with this set. I got nothing for complaining last time, and I'm sure I won't get anything this time. I'll just keep hoping one day they come through for me.

That's going to be a real pain for them considering some people, myself included, were charged in full for the base set and character add-on deck and shipping weeks ago...

In hindsight, I probably should have inquired more, but I didn't get the exact details. (Honestly, I doubted a CS rep would know the exact details beyond 'something went wrong' which is why I didn't pry.)

And actually, I had meant to ask that. People at GenCon, did you get add-on decks, or just base set?

I wonder if this was the same issue as happened to the class decks. They were able to get a rush order for GenCon, but not enough for the subscribers, perhaps? I'm just speculating...

So, will those of us who started subscriptions with character add-on deck still get the August promos?

Some kind of proper announcement on this would be good.

I'm sure you will. I highly doubt they'd not give you what they promised you'd get for subscribing to the product. In their system, they had associated the promos with the character add-on deck. So the thing they probably have to figure out is whether/how they can give the people the will end up getting the base set but not the character add-on deck in August the promos. They might need to wait to give promos when they ship the character add-on. Or they might be trying to figure out how to tie promos to the base set if you have it and the character add-on if you don't.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path, Card Game, Maps, Rulebook Subscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber

This is really disappointing. I won't be playing S&S without the add-on decks because the two characters who I've been waiting to play are the druid and alchemist. This also means we can't play with 5 or 6 players for at least another month too.

As far as speculation goes, my guess is that due to the launch of the Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild the majority of those add-on decks had to go to stores who have signed up to host sessions and this probably wasn't considered early enough.

oh hell, is this true?! that means I'll be sitting, staring at cards for a month. can't start without the add-on deck

*curse words*

I heard about the character packs a bit ago but I can't remember where. Some kind of major misprint or timing screwup at the printers. I'd thought they were just going to ship them later; seems like they should have then fast-tracked orders without them either way.

Maybe I should talk to our sales department; they clearly need better inventory management software.

You might be thinking of the Class Decks, not the Character Add On. This is the first I've heard of this.

Take heart! You can always print out the Add On character sheets in the meantime and play with them. I'm sure there's a bonus boon or two in the Add On deck that'll be nice, but for the most part I'm betting you'll only be missing on extra longswords (cutlasses?)

But yeah, I'm down about this too, the lack of communication most of all. It would've been nice to know any information at any step about delays instead of just sitting here. My wife and I have been psyched all month for S&S, and now we're all but certain we're not going to get it before she leaves for Europe in a couple weeks, which feels like a lot of emotional investment washed down the drain. Consider me pretty bummed. :(

Also charged, but not shipped and now delayed. Am I the only one who thinks paying a premium on shipping costs instead of buying from my FLGS should get it to me *before* my FLGS gets it? Paizo's policy should be to get it into subscribers hands a week earlier than general release, with promos. I'm providing a stable income with them for subscribing, helping their sales projection data, etc. I don't think it's too much to ask. I'd like to see a subscription program that ships to my designated FLGS for pickup though I dont know what this would entail or if its feasible.

Sovereign Court

Subscriptions almost always get delivered before retailers, August is a common month for that not to happen (although this year is extra problematic).

I was just thinking earlier about how my issue isn't that I'm not getting Add On deck, but that there has been near 0 communication, and in fact we've been told on multiple occasions that everything was fine and it was all just computer errors that made it look wrong. I've been disappointed until now, but that fact actually has me upset with Paizo, that was very much the wrong way to handle this.

Now my hope is that my local shop has all the promos for August, and there weren't one or two that were specifically subscribers only from Gen Con or something.

So, now that we've found out that everything is NOT fine with these shipments, did the Add On decks at least go out to retailers? I have everything PACG coming through them, and only have the subscription to give my extra decks (and duplicate promos) to people at OP, if anyone does something spectacular, or something like sacrificing themselves (or massively risking it) for the good of group.

The character deck screwup was on the blog page. My understanding when I talked to customer service was that this was the character add-on, though I suppose there could have been confusion (It wouldn't make any sense for my situation, though, since I didn't side-cart the character deck).

Pathfinder Card Game Subscriber

Just to add a bit more info here after talking with a friendly person in CS: a few days ago they discovered some kind of problem with the Add-on Decks. They were hoping to get replacements right away in time for today's projection but now that's not happening.

She confirmed that for subscribers who got shipping labels made already that they are shipping today just the base sets (or as many as they can get out today). She mentioned store credit as an apology. There's supposed to be an email explaining this shortly.

isaic16 wrote:

My situation would concur with yours. Mine is also pending, and the only thing in that order was Add-on Deck (not the base set, not any Character Deck). This leads me to believe that the issue is in fact with the Add-on deck.

I had initially not side-carted any of the character decks because I didn't want to delay shipping. No harm in that now, I guess.

I believe GenCon is moving to late July next year. I really hope that being just after a subscription shipment is less disruptive than being just before.

Just got off phone with CS. I was told the only thing going out today was the base set. Everything else, including promos, will be shipping "mid september."

GG, Paizo. I'll wait for the official post before going into full lunatic mode. =P

The Exchange

I hope there is an option to mark the deck as "ship as soon as possible" as I don't really want to wait till the end of next month to start playing. That or a pretty firm expected date so that I can decide to buy it locally if the delay is going to be more than a day or two past my base set shipping out.

As far as GenCon pick-ups, we got the base set, character add-on deck, and all the class decks if you got there early enough. I know that they (should have) had enough to cover all add-on decks for subscribers that elected pick up. I do not know if they had enough add-on decks through Sunday if you weren't. Same with Class decks, not sure quantity left by Sunday. The big play mats were sold out as was the Adv Class Guide, Tech Guide and Iron Gods Part 1.

I made sure I went first thing Thu to pick up everything including the character playmats and card sleeves.

We only got one promo card, barrier Goblin Keelhaulin'. They said others would be mailed.

Grand Lodge

Ugh. So frustrating. 120 bucks has already been charged for my preorders and subs but like most. No shipping in site. Early sept was my worst case and now I know mid sept is the reality

You know...I'm not peeved about the delay. I'm willing to have patience. Paizo is and will try to do the right thing, and their customer service has historically been so good that I don't doubt that the products will reach me as soon as they are able to ship them. The gaming group Hawkmoon & I play in is still going through Runelords, so we won't realistically be able to get started on S&S, anyways, except on our own. There are so many new characters to use in Runelords, with those character sheets (which are free and available now), that there's plenty of new stuff to do and play and see in the meantime.

The bigger bummer for me is the fact that they're pushing out unique cards in a product I don't want or need, those miniatures. I had hoped that a PACG subscription would get me every card, but this...is the trend that I really hope not to see. So meh.

Sovereign Court

It's not even the delay that is getting 99% of us upset. It sucks, and we're disappointed, but what's so bad was the 100% lack of communication. That's not bad, that's unacceptable. Yes, they'll get shipped when they can, but that really doesn't make it any better. People ordered items as well that had absolutely nothing to do with PACG, but this one item screwed up all of that.

August or not, this was handled horribly. All I know, is if this happens again, I'm just going to hope my local retailer can get all the promo cards for me, because I guarantee I won't be going through Paizo anymore. If they make a mistake, fine, but tell us. Don't hope it gets better before we notice it happened in the first place.

Paizo.....fix my SHI.........pment

(I'm getting msg it will ship late September/early October. Well done. Really. Golf clap for Paizo)

Edit: oh and I've called Costumer service three times over last couple weeks and they promised it would be shipped by 22nd and the preordered class decks wouldn't delay shipment. Obviously, this wasn't true.

Pathfinder Card Game Subscriber

UPS now has a package for me with estimated delivery on the 27th. Can't really start the campaign until we have all the characters... Maybe improvise something.

Seems like Paizo hoped that they could make everyone happy by bringing enough stock to Gencon and then get more printed quick for the subscribers who didn't go. They should've communicated better.

Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Maps, Pathfinder Accessories, Starfinder Accessories, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

It would be nice to know what the actual problem was.

I'd be surprised if it was not printing enough - historically that's never been the case, they print enough for subscribers and then extra, plus they set aside subscriber copies before filling other orders. I wonder if something very unusual happened (like a printer mixup or stock lost n transit or something).

I think full disclosure would help in this kind of situation.

I know people are upset and that is fine that you express your thoughts back to Paizo, but I would also like to point out that they have many shipping options.

I have all my orders set to ship once a month with the subs... but is not an option available to ship everything the second it is available? With what I subscribe to that would result in a half dozen boxes every month so I would much rather wait myself and save a few bucks and work on my patience.

Finally, if I am mistaken on that, as a suggestion to Paizo based upon some feedback from everyone in this post maybe adding a "never hold anything" option to the website shipping options would be a good idea. I doubt people would use that on a consistent basis, but for times like Paizocon, Christmas, or Gencon when lots of things come out smaller shipments may help both Paizo with smaller batch processing and the customers get what they want sooner.

Anyway thanks for the update and have a great weekend everyone.

I specifically called three separate times to instruct them to move all "back ordered" items to my side cart so it would at least ship base game and add on. After numerous promises by customer service, they failed to honor their promise.

Without getting too deep into matters of shipping and ordering, I would like to say something about playing without the Character Add-On Deck.

You can do it with very little trouble at all.

At least temporarily, anyway. The characters of Damiel, Feiya, Oloch, and S&S Lini are all available online as PDFs.

You'll never use all the blessings in the base set in the early parts of the campaign, even with six characters. There are a few very nice cards in the Character Add-On for some of the C characters, but you don't need them to start playing. It's pretty easy to put together a set of Basic cards for every character. If you ever run out (say, you need more potions for Damiel), swap in a few from Runelords. Then when the decks come out, you can trade them for Basic cards in the deck lists.

As far as the banes go, there's a few monsters you won't meet yet. Don't worry, you'll get to them. The only real problem will come in the lack of repeated henchmen in a five- or six-player game, and I recommend proxies for that.

I'm not saying any of this is ideal. I am saying it's not that hard to do, at least for a little while. Maybe give it a try?

Looking at the "This Week at Paizo" email, it shows more people buying the Character Add-On Deck than the base set itself. Probably because a lot of people wanted to start subscribing without paying shipping for the base set and still get the promos. Sometimes it seems that Paizo hasn't anticipated how much people want the whole enchilada.

Andrew, please dont put words in my mouth. No where. In my post did I blame Mike. I simply pointed out the painfully obvious truth that those subscribers, like myself, who still haven't received our base set dont care about pdf version of the add on. We still dont have the base set and cant use the PDFs of the add on at all.

Ps. I blame everyone at Paizo that works with this product as I dont have enough internal knowledge to place blame on any particular person or group of people. I also blame the printer and karma (im probably paying for some past sin(s)).

Not trying to argue with anyone here, but Mike doesn't even work for Paizo. He works for Lone Shark Games, who has a licensing agreement with Paizo to publish his game.

And I don't think the problem is manpower in the warehouse. I think it is inventory. They don't have enough of the product. If they just didn't have enough people to get it out the door, the solution would have been to hire part time help (which they have before) or just say "we need another week to get your order filled" instead of postponing part of it a month.

And actually, if memory serves me correctly, I think in the past they have called all hands on deck in the warehouse, because I think I remember seeing a comment that Lisa Stevens, the CEO, has spent time in the warehouse on the occasions when they did need more manpower.

Anyway, while I wish I had my game by now and wish I'd known sooner that I wasn't going to get all of it on time, I know I've made my fair share of wrong decisions, including in my professional life. I think the bulk evidence from history shows Paizo cares about their customers and their products. They have surely earned my forgiveness.
