I think Leadbeater is my favourite writer though I do enjoy Besant and Powell as well. Strangely enough, I've read very little of Blavatsky but I do have a cherished book of hers at home that is a very old, hard cover book which is essentially what I'd call a Bestiary that runs from A to Z. I think it is quite rare and it has makes for fascinating reading. I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head but I'll check when I get home.

Moving off the Theosophical texts, you may find Dion Fortune's Psychic Self-Defence both an entertaining read as well as an interesting source of information for your new book.

Have you read Alice Bailey? Pretty crazy offshoot stuff.

Been a long time since I've done much reading on it, but is the seven principles of mankind related in any way to the Seven Rays of Light or the Seven Rays of God? From memory (and we're going back at least 8 to 10 years or so here, back when I was in my mid teens), each ray represented a higher level of awareness, with each step gained resulting in the soul having a more pure spiritual nature, with the final ray being where they transcend the physical world entirely?

I'm still trying to get my head around the rays. They're often mentioned off-handedly and not really described, and each writer seems to have a different list and a different definition. It's difficult for me to imagine that they are not related, but then again the Theosophists are crazy for the number 7, and almost everything is doled out in that quantity.

I'm working my way through Besant and Leadbeater's Theosophical Manuals (100-page summaries of key points to introduce the philosophy) and they haven't really covered the rays yet. The internet is practically useless on the subject, so I'm sticking with primary sources.

What I understand about the concept seems ripe for exploitation in an RPG, but I admit I can't fully get my head around it yet.

Thanks for the speedy response Erik :)

Honestly, first place I ever came across it was in Traci Harding's Ancient Future trilogy. Well worth a read, and while it's a fantasy series, the author does her research on the theories (and then yes, does use them for ridiculous fantasy that would probably have the originators of these theories spinning in their graves). I think the internet was what killed off my interest in it, because as you said it's near to useless. Every second site has another view on it, or opinions even seem to shift from page to page in the same site. Frustrating.

I'll have a look for a few books next time I'm in my local bookstore, see if I can find the summary books you mentioned.

Nah. I have a much better idea for a "Guardians of Golarion" makeup than that... I just need to get around to creating them (although now that ACG and Technology Guide are out. SOON!)

I thought gunslingers didn't get dex to damage until 5th level? Or am I thinking of a different ability. I thought that's what their Gun Training was for.

Not if guns are common, I'm pretty sure.

Huh, yeah, there you go. The Guns Everywhere level of the Firearms section states that Gunslingers lose Gunsmith and get Gun Training at level 1 instead.

So two steps up from the default assumption of Emerging Guns.

Yes, if the setting is 'Guns Everywhere', which a modern time or space adventure game would definitely qualify for, then the Gunslinger loses the Gunsmith class feature and gains Gun Training at 1st level.

Firearms wrote:
Guns Everywhere: Guns are commonplace. Early firearms are seen as antiques, and advanced firearms are widespread. Firearms are simple weapons, and early firearms, advanced guns, and their ammunition are bought or crafted for 10% of the cost listed in this chapter. The Gunslinger loses the gunsmith class feature and instead gains the gun training class feature at 1st level.

I've heard of Alice Bailey but never had the opportunity to read her material. I know where I can track it down. You have piqued my curiosity and motivated me to go check it out.

I have quite a few books at home. I'll see if I can help you in finding the right books/chapters/passages.

I hope we find out more info today.

Man, I *really* hope I can play something like an armless telekinetic. Like I have to manifest Mage Hand for my every-day things and I blast people around with Telekinesis and stuff.

Sorry, none of the books I own seemed to cover the rays.

What I would be excited to see is some sort of Mystic class based around the arousing of the Kundalini (serpent-fire) at a high level to become a "super humanoid". The steps on the way to this achievement would be through the alignment of the 7 chakras at different levels starting of course with the root chakra at a low level.

Maybe the Kineticist will have options for earth, wind, and water so we can have benders like the Avatar animated series.

So I've been searching for what the Seven Rays of Light are but I'm not finding a clear answer. What is it?

This right here

I was reading that as a start, though it didn't get anywhere until the New Age section.

Like was said earlier, it's complicated.

Woah what?

Psychic... not psionic. And you'll learn the difference.

Yup, welcome to why I stopped trying to look into it 10 years ago. Like I said, the first exposure to it I had was from a trilogy of fantasy novels by Traci Harding, and I went looking for more... cue nothing but conflicting information. Intrigued enough now to try again, hoping to have better luck with some books instead of internet trawling.

Defiantly interested to see how they are going to try to make the six new classes unique without being some form of "X but PSYCHIC!" especially since they will be relying on Vancian casting. Defiantly looking forward to Obsidian pathfinder projects

Better yet, Earth, Wind, and Fire, so they can be part of the band along with the Bard and Skald.

As much as I'm eager to see the new classes, seeing what was done in the ACG with the archetypes has me excited to see how the current classes can get in on the action!!

(And isn't it about time we start a thread just for OA? :D )

I think the key here will be to base them heavily on the source inspiration, letting the mechanics come from that inspiration instead of letting the mechanics drive the theme.

Inner Sea Races sounds wonderful.

Yeah races is my most needed thing of all. I have plenty of classes, feats, archetypes, prestige classes, spells and items -- but I'm FAR from satisfied with player races.

John Kretzer wrote:
Was there any specific news about future release in the Pathfinder Companion Line, PG Campaign guides (beyond the Inner Sea Races of course), modules or novels?

I don't usually repost questions like this....

But anything? anyone?

They already have fire in the form of pyrokinesis, so that is why I only said air, earth, and water. Though I do get the joke Cthulhudrew;)

I seconded that question John Kretzer. I also wonder why we have more information for the second AP of next year and no new info for the first one.

Just want to echo John question

I'm also curious about the other lines of product. And anything about the 14-15 catalog?

Know Direction posted the entire panel. I watched it; nothing else came up. If anything else was announced, it wasn't announced at the Pathfinder 2014 and Beyond seminar, and I haven't seen anyone report anything else elsewhere yet.

Liane Merciel dropped a couple pretty big hints in Mikaze's earlier thread about Hell's Rebels, as did Erik Mona. Nothing official or confirmed, though.

The fatigue pool mechanic they mentioned seems really interesting.

Liberty's Edge

We're working on the Expanded Universe Video right now, and after that I'll probably upload the Design video that goes into more details about Occult Adventures.

I can't wait to see those videos.

Ok! We've got TWO videos up now!

Paizo 2015 and Beyond Seminar - This is the one that they make the Occult Adventures announcement, as well as Inner Sea Races! And they talk a little about all the other things going on.

Pathfinder’s Expanding Universe - This is the seminar with the most information about the deal with Obsidian Entertainment and talk of the digital version of the card game. It also talks about the miniature line, the new campaign coins medallion, and other tie in products.

So is the only video that talks about the Occult Adventures or was there another one?

Dragon78, keep an eye out for the Design Team/Rules seminar video yet to be posted. Lots of new class talk coming up on that one.

Thanks for the info Brandon Hodge.

It'll generate a lot of FAQ requests, along the line of "you released this class, but didn't actually tell us the name of most of its abilities... but one of my players insists that if you hold it up to the light just so, and read the blacked out text just right, it says [censored]. Please clarify, this is destroying my game!"

Sounds like the Mino-Dragon has become a disciple of Cosmo.

I blame Cosmo.

Well there are plenty of choices that it could be for example:
Clairvoyant
Esper
Psychic
Fakir
Psion
Mesmerist
Swami
Seer
Occultist
Augur
Prophet
Dreamweaver
Guru
Diviner

Jason, it's going to be HILARIOUS when you announce that the class name is, in fact, the Redactor, with a Redacting class ability. ;-)

I hope we find out what it is before the end of the week.

Um, I think Jason already told us the name of his class:

Jason Bulmahn wrote:

(emphasis mine)

It could be "psychic" or he could be messing with us on a whole new level there;)

Or he misspelled "me" accidentally. Or maybe he wants us to think that so we grasp at straws.

If psychic magic will be vancian, I'm curious if there will be failure rates from armor. Will we get an int-based spontaneous caster?

That is a possibility FanaticRat.
