Stealth and Detection at Sea

Rules Questions

In the CRB, in the Wilderness subsection of the Environment chapter, each different type of wilderness has a maximum stealth and detection distance at which something can be perceived. There is no entry for upon the sea (not beneath it). Does this rule exist anywhere that I'm missing? In lieu of one, I suppose I'll just use the plains entry since that is the longest and is most comparable. Thanks!

The Exchange

The answer is liable to be quite different for, say, a party using water walk or stranded in a rowboat than it is for ships (which are generally Colossal and effectively Dex 0, giving them a lovely Stealth -13).

If we're talking large/medium/small critters, I think your use of the plains table abovewater is reasonable. Underwater's a different story; I'd probably use a less generous table there, since sea and lake water is pretty murky over distance.

For underwater there is already a formula in the CRB. Thanks!
