So, from what I´ve seen so far, the Forgotten Realms seem to stay the default setting for the new edition. Nothing wrong with that, of course.
However, did anyone hear anything if WotC might revive other settings? As I´m an old Greyhawk fan, I´d love to see a new take on that setting.
Any opinions, rumours, hints on that? (please don´t start any world-bashing, it´s not worth it).

Forgotten Realms (ugh) appears to be the default. They will have Eberron setting, as the Warforged are a race in the DMG. I think they will be resurrecting the Dragonlance setting, as they make mentions of various Dragonlance characters in the Basic pdf (Tika Waylan, I think Raistlin is mentioned in the Wizard class).
As for others... I am not certain if Greyhawk, Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Spelljammer, Planescape, Birthright, or any of the other myriad of TSR settings will see a conversion to 5th edition. I think many of them are abandoned. Of course, I never would have thought they would update Dark Sun to 4th edition, but they did. But I think the others will remain 2nd edition and 3rd edition. At least until people get tired of the Forgotten Realms.

I believe I saw some Greyhawk references in the stuff released so far, so there's always hope.
I know Margaret Weis said she and Tracy are available should WotC decide to revive Dragonlance on her Facebook page, so I'm hopeful on that front. However, that comment was in response to a WotC staffer stating there was some kind of interest at a convention back in the spring. Don't read too much into this as it was all speculation and Margaret was not actually at the Con and was "replying" via Facebook.
I would also love to see the Birthright setting and Mystara revived, but I have little hope of either happening.

Yeah, Mystara (now that I´ve found the Threshold fanzine) would be lovely as well, as would Al-Qadim, which I love as much for the artwork as for the ideas within. But then, one lesson learned painfully is Don´t split your customer base. So, any other that the default settings will probably recieve only minor attention if any, I guess.

Chuck, thanks a lot for your shared insight. That might indicate that these four settings will recieve at least some attention.
And I like the big wheel being back ;-)
(As an aside, I thought the PHB wasn´t even released yet to the general public? At least that is what the WotC homepage product listing implies.)

PHB is being sold in the "WPN" stores. (Wizard's Play Network).
I do not have mine, and won't until Aug. 19th.
On the D&D Nest Facebook page it has also been said that Mike Mearls has stated in an interview or on his twitter feed that the list in the PHB is not exhaustive. (I, unfortunately, have no way of verifying that).

In my mind, when they say that they Great Wheel is back, then the Elemental Chaos is gone (something that I personally like). That's is also the impression that I got from talking to people elsewhere on teh intertubez.
Also from this preview we discover that....
"but there are references to Dark Sun, Blackmoor, Planescape, Mystara, Birthright, and probably others that I missed."

Hm. Listing or referencing all the old settings is one thing, probably for the sake of including all the grognards. Speaking of which, the post on greyhawk grognard ends with "there will be some more Greyhawk-specific material as the months wear on", so we will see if more comes from that than just some mentioning for the sake of including everyone.
yellowdingo, I guess you refer to the Basic rules pdf?
(As an aside, I have some difficulties finding the downloads on the Wizards page - if it weren´t for the links on these boards, I would probably be searching to this day.)

I think we'll be getting more settings than just the Realms and Eberron this time around from WoTC (if the list of deities in the PHB is any indication.)
I'm personally hoping for Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Planescape, and Spelljammer. As far as Ravenloft goes, I could've swore that I read somewhere, that Ravenloft is now worked into the regular "canon." So it may not be a campaign setting this time around, just possibly an updated I6 adventure. (where I read that, I couldn't tell you so please do not ask)

And I also think it's time they updated Kara-Tur, Zakhara, and Maztica this time around. There's more to the Realms than Faerun.
