Sigh... Someone forgot to turn the blogs from draft(hidden) to published. Apologies. It has been fixed. Go read to your heart's content.

Class Pack
New Player Pack
Alliance Pack
Regional Trait Pack

Can we get a detailed breakdown of what is included in each of these and what the differences or overlaps are?

Okay, how much is the Base Camp? At first it said $50 [which the blog also says], but then in your cart it jumps to $100. When I removed it from the cart, it was $100 in the order page.

Is it possible to upgrade from the $35 Adventurer to this new $50 Explorer?

Goblin Squad Member

So , all player owned housing in the future will be purchased from the store? That's a new idea, can I craft a bedroll to go with my campfire and bean pot?

For me everything is $15 more....

Goblin Squad Member

Apparently these things can actually be constructed by engineers, but require substantial resources. The store objects are a shortcut.

Have there been any issues with older laptop/pcs running the game? I am looking forward to getting in at the end of Alpha and am hoping that my clanky laptop will be up to the task...

Goblin Squad Member

I can see the small holding and base camp but there is no sign of the "power regenerating" items mentioned.

Can anyone else see these ?

Goblin Squad Member

Edam, those player-owned structures are the power regenerating items. It's not something you carry around in your backpack (build a campfire for that.)

Both the Smallholding and Basecamp items state that they regenerate power once they are added to your cart. Nothing else is being sold in the store that does that - the Campfires mentioned will be player crafted.

Goblin Squad Member

Both of those items actually do regenerate power. In game currently you can use a consumable "campfire" to do the same thing.

You need to have at least Explorer level account access to add a Base Camp or a Smallholding to your order. Right now the store is automatically including Explorer access in the purchase. We're going to talk about the logic of how that works tomorrow and we may make some changes to how that system works.

If you have Open Enrollment access, you can upgrade to Explorer, Early, or Alpha Enrollment and get $35 off the price.

If you have Explorer access, you can upgrade to Early or Alpha Enrollment and get $50 of the price.

If you have Early Enrollment, you can upgrade to Alpha Enrollment and get $100 off the price.

Boy do I hate that form of interrogatory.

Posing a worst-case scenario as the actual fact and then commenting as if that fact were in evidence.

NO all player owned housing will not require a future store purchase. There will be player owned housing you will be able to craft from purely in-game resources.

OMG!! I just spent $150.00 on ArcheAge Alpha, yesterday and Small Holdings are $200!!!! And September 15 is EE!!!

I love this blog and hate it!! If only a day earlier.

Goblin Squad Member

I want to mention that you can build those Basic Camps in game, there are actually about 10 versions.

I currently hold Early Enrollment privileges (or I certainly should), but the store is adding the $15 anyway. Is that expected?

I'm sorta assuming that it is a bug, but if there isn't any fix or clarification in a few days I'll hit customer service up.

EDIT: Nevermind, it looks like this just got fixed.

The Exchange Goblin Squad Member

Is it possible (or am I just being blind and not finding it?) to see on the store what upgrades you have already purchased?

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

Nice!

Fiery_Dervish, I share your concerns. I built my current computer to run the Beta for Lord of the Rings Online. That's been a few years ago. I've been thinking about building a new system for PFO, and now I have a timeline to plan around.

Quick comparison, from what we know so far:

Base Camp
Costs real money, not gold pieces
Regenerates Power
Provides a limited amount of storage space
Infinitely reusable, with a cooldown period between uses

Campfire
Made by crafters in-game and sold for gold pieces or bartered
Regenerates Power
Storage space? Unknown (at least to me)
Consumable (Want to build more than one? Buy a stack.)

Smallholding vs. POI or Kickstarter-purchased Tavern? Unknown. We don't know enough about POIs and taverns to make much of a comparison.

As of the last word from Goblinworks, not yet.

They've said they plan to show that information, but they didn't know when that would happen.

Goblin Squad Member

I LOVE that both of these buildings can be traded and sold on the market. It really removes a barrier to purchase - if I find later on that I don't need it, I can sell it for gold. Probably a sizeable sum, given that it costs as much as multiple months of subscription.

Smart moves Goblinworks, love it.

Point to note: Looks like you can only buy one of each. I have bought a Base Camp, and now the option doesn't appear on the store for me anymore.

So now that we have a date for EE... do you have the mechanism which will let us trade the extra Adventurer packs some of us bought for friends? The whole idea was to allow them to upgrade for early enrollment so if that functionality is not in place soon I will be quite disappointed...

Thanks for taking the time to let me know I was being a pain in the arse ,that wasn't how I meant it and I appreciate knowing how it looked to you. GW does a great job answering questions and I shouldn't have asked in a way that doesn't rate a response.

Thanks, I just can't remember what add packs I have already and don't want to double up. I guess I'll just wait.

@Fiery_Dervish - I am running the game on my mid-2012 Mac Mini which is the lowest powered machine in the office. I can run it comfortably (not at 30+ FPS, but good enough to play). My video system is an AMD6600M.

@Ryan

Thanks for the updates! Need to review the blogs again latter and consult with my settlement.

I am concerned that I still lack solid information on POI/Outposts, and that new premium items were mentioned before those important components are better understood.

Looking forward to the community responses to these two blogs over the next few days. :)

Just for clarity's sake, for purposes of the shared storage, the "Settlement Hex" is the single hex the settlement is in, not the "hex of hexes" that surround the settlement?

I know you're busy but if you could give a little more info on the other options for player-crafted housing, I'd be most appreciative. What sets the $200- option apart from the other options besides it being available from the (almost) start?

The wording in the blog posts had me worried. I may have missed something but it seemed to me that if you weren't a part of a settlement, the store was how you got housing.

So there will be options for small companies to craft housing from in-game resources?

Ryan, thanks for that. It's more my GPU I'm worried about, it's on it's last legs....

I suppose it's a good excuse to my a new laptop lol

CEO, Goblinworks

@Wszebor Uriev - we have no more details at this time to share other than that there will be player crafted housing.

CEO, Goblinworks

@Caldeathe Baequiannia - yes, when the blog refers to a Settlement Hex, it means the actual Hex the Settlement is in.

Goblin Squad Member

There's a spreadsheet of recipes here which shows existing recipes for building things like: Basic Camp, Simple Camp, through assorted iterations up to Royal Camp. I presume there will be similar items available for the smallholding once settlement construction is closer to being in play.

You will be part of a settlement; you may remain a member of the NPC settlements, but at a very meaningful cost in terms of training and support.

Thanks, Ryan.

Fantastic news! Y'all are certainly moving fast, and it's a testament to some really great management and leadership that you'll be hitting a release target you set a year and a half ago in an industry that is notorious for missing them. Kudos :)

Goblin Squad Member

Really interesting developments!

Goblin Squad Member

Will there be method to share Base Camps and/or Smallholds within a Company or settlement? For example, some sort of shared inventory that these items could be "checked out" and used by company or settlement characters instead of bound to an individual character/account?

The crafted campsites currently on the engineering recipes list are not persistent. They're essentially a group Power-restoration consumable glossed as camping out for the night (in the same way that you'd make camp to sleep and recover your dailies and spells in tabletop). They'll last for a short period (long enough for several people to use them) and then despawn. Higher level ones may have more amenities TBD, in addition to the Power regen, but their main use is that they give you more Power back.

Base camps will be significantly more persistent, which allows them to also serve as a storage location in a way that doesn't make sense for the engineering camps. It's TBD which crafted items will give you field storage, but a buried chest type of item is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

Goblin Squad Member

However, the impact of a monster escalation entering the hex where smallholdings or base camps are built has not been addressed. Will these premium items be subject to monster attack? Will ogres be able to demolish a smallholding better and faster than characters?

Goblin Squad Member

Do these new buildings require resources to construct or training time to learn how to use equal to or greater then the training time / resources required to use the player crafted equivalents?

If two people buy the same amount of training time, and then spend the same amount of real world time acquiring the training points and then buy the same skills neither should have an advantage from going to the store and buying something for real world cash.

If person b can now go buy a safehold and get the benefits of a months training time in crafting skills, etc. required to duplicate the safeholds abilities they gain a month on person a.

That's Pay to Win.

You can define pay to win to be "nothing we sell in the store is pay to win because we say its not pay to win" but that doesn't make it not pay to win.

It just means you're changing the definition of pay to win so you can put pay to win items in the store and not call them pay to win.

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

@Harad I would think/hope so. They aren't not lost, just put on CD.

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

@Devs

Are the ppl who bought higher teirs in the kickstarter available to get the discounts on the premium items with out upgrading.

Goblin Squad Member

So, basically, a Smallholding is kind of a warehouse-cum-tavern for a select "in" group/person?
