Another Full Round ACtion Question

I am VERY new to Pathfinder. However, I have been gaming since the original D&D Boxed Set. I am running a campaign in which the fighter wields two weapons (long sword, short sword combo) and has Improved Two Weapon Fighting. His BAB is (+6,+1). For a full round action, how many attacks would he get, three or six?

Grand Lodge

Neither three nor six. If his BAB is 6 he'll get four attacks.

Long at 6-2, 1-2
Short at 6-2, 1-2

Note that it doesn't have to be in that order, it can go first long, first short, first short, second short.

As long as each attacks from higest to lowest bab you can attack in whatever order is allowed.

L1, L2 = longsword first and second
S1, S2 = shortsword first and second

so...
L1, L2, S1, S2
L1, S1, L2, S2
L1, S1, S2, L2
or you can make your shortsword your primary weapon and do the same
S1, S2, L1, L2
S1, L1, S2, L2
S1, L1, L2, S2

How were you reading it that it would be six? (or three, though I can maybe understand that one if you missed a part as it's almost four)

Normally you get very high penalties to attack when two weapon fighting. Taking the two weapon fighting feat reduces those penalties, and if you use a light weapon in your off-hand then your penalties are at -2 (both to primary attack(s) and off-hand attack).
When you take the "improved two-weapon fighting" feat then you get a second off-hand attack, but with a -5 penalty to the attack (that penalty stacks with the penalty for two weapon fighting).

This means that a fighter with strength 10 and BAB of +6 with the improved two weapon fighting feat makes his attacks like this:

Primary attack: 6-2=4 & 1-2=-1
Off-hand attack: 6-2=4 & 1-2=-1

Of course most fighters will have more than strength 10 or they are using dexterity to hit (weapon finesse feat) and they usually have feats/abilities that increase their to hit.

Thanks for the response. I read 3 or six due to Improved Two Weapon Fighting allowing a second off handed attack for a total of three attacks.

Lifat, would this be reasonable then?

Primary attack: 6-2=4 & 1-2=-1
Off-hand attack: 6-2=4 & 1-2=-1
Second off-hand attack: 6-2-5=-1 & 1-2-5=-6

Total of six possible attacks.

Seymore, normally two-weapon fighting would be
Primary attack: 6-2=4 & 1-2=-1
Off-hand attack: 6-2=4
only three attacks. Improved gives you a second swing with your off hand for
Primary attack: 6-2=4 & 1-2=-1
Off-hand attack: 6-2=4 & 1-2=-1
you'd need a third hand to even think about making more attacks.

No, that wouldn't be reasonable. I bolded the second off hand attack and striked out the part that doesn't work If you have a BAB of 30 and only have Two-Weapon Fighting and none of the other TWF feats, then you'll only have a single offhand attack at 30-2. It doesn't get iterative attacks like the mainhand does. It only gets extra attacks from taking extra TWF feats.

Chess Pwn,

That make perfect sense. Thank you all for the feedback and not slaughtering the Pathfinder Noob.

Generally speaking, this forum is reasonably polite to newcomers. At most you'd be asked to search the forum if it is a question that comes up often. There may be slightly hostile banter from time to time, but it is usually between more seasoned people who get stuck in their respective interpretations and even then, the mods are there reasonably quickly to moderate it.
And it is 4 attacks total as the other's said.
