Zen Archer / Evangelist of Erastil

Silver Crusade

Hey guys, I was looking at the Evangelist class a little closer in Inner sea Gods. Is there any reason a Zen archer shouldnt go into Evangelist? Seriously, if you play up to level 14, you get wis to hit (a second time) and damage within 30 feet. You only lose 1 level worth of stuff, and it all picks back up again effective the second level of Evangelist.

You will take a hit to your saves, but since you are already getting the first 5 levels in monk and Wisdom is a main stat, guess its not that big of a deal. I have a Zen Archer that will not be taking this route because it doesn't truly fit his personality.

Guess that is it, two reasons: Saves and RP reasons.

It's good, but it is only valid within 30 ft. 30ft is awfully close to the enemy. And if you need to move to avoid taking a hit, your losing all your iterative/flurry attacks.

So while good in theory, it goes against the core archer instinct of not getting close to thine enemy.

Mmm okay, so you guys make some valid points. It is certainly useful later on for big damage though.

Also what are peoples thoughts on Deadly Bowman trait (Erastil)?

It is a new trait that allows you to ignore the soft cover +4 if you are weilding a bow and only 1 person is blocking your way.

Well, of the bonus feats that zen-archer monks get access to (until 6th level) you're only really going to want point blank shot and precise shot. You get a feat first level. And nother as a bonus feat at 2nd level. If you are human you will get another feat at first.

Most human archer would pick up point blank shot and precise shot together. At most, you would have to wait till 2nd level.

What's the point in saying all that? It's not a bad trait. If you aren't a zen-archer or ranger or aren't human it can really help to allow you to pick up other feats that you might want more since you can semi-negate the penalty. But for you, it isn't all that useful and you can probably find a better trait to pick up.

You get to do this at level 6 being a Zen Archer. So it would only help you for the first 5 levels. But, I can see it being a big help for the price of a trait.

Whoops, just realized I confused Improved Precise Shot and Precise Shot.

General point still stands. It could be helpful for first few levels, but you can get the real deal at level 6. Also note, that in general players don't actually use bows with their zen archers until level 3, when they finally get wis to hit with bows.

They normally pump strength and wis and leave dex low because they have no need for it with the zen archer ability. This means only 3 levels without it, as the other two you'll be using some two-handed weapon.

Well playing a lot of pathfinder society, i find very early on archers have to move because people are in there way. I think its going to be a HUGE help for the first 5 (6 in my case as I plan on going Evangelist, so wont pick up Improved Precise Shot until ZAM 5/Ev 2). Its going to allow me to get 2 attacks off with very little issues right now. After Character level 7 for me, yes it will be a wasted trait, but thats going to be half his game life where it will be useful.

My Zen Archer Monks feats at level 1 are: Skill Focus (Perception) - from Human focused Study, Precise Shot (Bonus ZAM feat, I can get around the requirements right now due to it being a monk bonus feat), Improved Initiative (Level 1 Feat) and of course Perfect Strike (ZAM) and Improved Unarmed Strike. I will pick up Point Blank at Level 2, not as important right now.

Per the FAQ you cannot add an ability modifier to the same thing twice. Taking Evangelist and Zen Archer would be redundant.

The Zen Archer gets Point Blank Master at 3rd, and they always threaten with unarmed strikes, so they do perfectly fine in melee. They tend to break the normal archer mode anyway.
