How similar might Outpost / Poi raiding be to WoT

I'm thinking, after listening to Tork's interview, that how it might be easy to transition that same system used for the War of Towers to raiding Outpists and POIs.

This way all of the time and effort developing the WoT system will not have gone to waste, and the transition would be smoother between pre and post cataclysm PvP.

I'd be happy to agree with you if I was able to listen to the interview...Still haven't seen a link to it anywhere yet. I missed out on that last night :(

I'm sure it will be properly published within a day or two. All that's available now is a video that hasn't been turned into an actual podcast yet.

I think the primary difference I would like to see is the disconnect from PoIs held to PvP window. If PoIs are company owned, it doesn't make sense for an Aussie company to be forced to the same PvP window as a primarily North-American settlement's PvP window will be.

Settlements set the PvP window that applies to itself and its POIs. An Aussue poi, attached to an Aussie settlement will have its own PvP window.

In Aragon's case, we have about 7 Aussies, if they want a poi, we in EST will defend it during our PvP window.

A sponsored POI isn't company owned: it's company managed and settlement owned.

POIs don't have to be sponsored by a settlement. They can be company owned. If treated like the WoT, these would have 24 hour wide PvP window. Outposts don't have PvP windows, they can be raided freely.

My question is, how much of WoT will transition into raiding?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I sincerely hope that "PVP window" for POIs doesn't mean "Hex-wide FFA".

I think hex-wide FFA PvP, after war of towers, sort of makes feuds and war decs of limited use. If we can make excursions into our neighbor's territory and engage in a few hour's PvP every day, why should we need to burn Influence to get stuck into fights?

As with the WoT, maybe the way it will work is if you are in the proximity of the POI during the PVP window, then it can be freely raided and or defended.

Feuds, Faction and Wars should not have to wait for the PVP Window, so that should answer Urman's concern. You expend the influence to have 24/7 access to PVP against that specific company's or settlement's holdings.

Feuds and Wars will also not trigger an attacker or criminal flag.

So, back to Dario's concern, not the whole hex, just near the POI structure.

I did not expect any rep free killing/raiding around a poi without a war, feud, ect.

According to the older Dev Blogs, through using Hostility, you could raid an Outpost or POI without rep loss, provided you let any defending PC to strike you before you hit them whole you are raiding.

In most cases an outpost will only be protected by a few NPCs, so no rep loss there. The POIs, which are more important to a settlement still have NPC guards but may also have PC defenders as well.

It has been a long time since the Devs have written or spoken about raiding. I'm hoping that this thread sparks some thoughts on the subject.
