Pathfinder Adventure Path #100 Speculation

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

1 to 50 of 73 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I woke up today with a lot of wonderful thoughts about what could be done for Pathfinder Adventure Path #100, so I came to the Paizo forums with the one goal of finding discussion on what they could do to make it awesome. Unfortunately, there has been little talk, and you folks seem more than content waiting it out to see what they deliver. (How can you all wait so patiently!?)

With only a little over a year of lead time until the publication of Pathfinder Adventure Path #100, it's probably too late to provide any input to alter what they have planned, but it doesn't hurt to talk about what you want it to be.

So what would you like in Pathfinder Adventure Path #100?

We know it will be issue 4 of 6 for the AP after Giantslayer.

The few hints that I was able to find basically stated that that AP will possibly be more iconic Golarion, which lead some users to speculate something to do with the Pathfinder Society and possibly tie to Pathfinder Society Organized play.

I first started thinking about issue #100 a year or two ago when one of the Paizo staff jokingly lamented at Paizo Con about the problem of fitting the number "100" on the spine of a single issue of an AP book. (My easy fix--turn it sideways.)

At first I assumed the centennial issue would be an awesome hardcover book. Something like a big super dungeon. Then they went and made the Emerald Spire.

Now, I am of the firm belief that Pathfinder Adventure Path #100 should be a boxed set. (Or at least I want it to be.) Something akin to the beloved Beginner Box. Including an adventure, flip mats(s), pawns, commemorative dice w/ Pathfinder Society logo dice bag. I'd love a Paizo logo D20 in there as well. (And would it kill you to finally make a Paizo Golem Pathfinder Battles pre-painted miniature?)

Okay? So how does the 4th issue of a 6 issue Adventure Path warrant a full box set which would require stand-alone sales potential?

That's what I woke up thinking about this morning.

Basically, the idea I had was that the PC's are either transported back to a pivotal time in Golarion's history, or better yet, The PC's find some sort of magical item that let's them see back in time thus letting the players leave their current PC's in the present, and play the historical adventure as their ancestors or other historical PC's.

Without knowing the setting of the planned Adventure Path, it's hard to say what historical Golarion event to go back to, but I can see potential for some really cool reveals linking between the past and the present once you get to issues 5 and 6 of the AP. They probably won't let the PC's be involved with the death of Aroden or anything, but there are people much more well-versed in Golarion's history to find a great historical compass point for the AP.

So where's the stand-alone sales potential. The fact that the PC's are transported out of the current adventure into a new adventure (with new historical iconic PC's) sets it up for anyone to buy as a cool Pathfinder Box set where you get to play in an amazing adventure that shapes the world of Golarion. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly a good gaming product for a lot of people.

New Pathfinder fans ported over from the Adventure Card Game are definitely interested in what Pathfinder is all about as its popularity continues to grow.

People who've never picked up an AP would have "an AP in a box" to try out and become fans.

It would be sold around the holidays, so a marketing push to sell a Beginner Box, Strategy Guide, Core Rulebook, and Pathfinder #100 would be a great all-encompassing Pathfinder gift set.

Also, if the box set could somehow tie story-wise to the Pathfinder Society, then getting people to play in Pathfinder Society Organized Play would be helped tremendously.

These are just one gamer's thoughts. What do you guys think?

not a fan of boxed sets to be honest, even the beginner box has limited viability, and is rarely used by us anymore.

but i'm not forking over an extra 10-20 bucks for another boxed set, i'd rather it just be a super awesome adventure book (which i'm positive it will be:)

I cannot see how the actual adventure in book 100 will be particularly ground-breaking without causing the same sort of issues that a lot of folk had with Council of Thieves, re:

Spoiler:
you fight a (weakened) pit fiend in book 5 and the the grand finale in book 6 lost a lot of 'oompth' as a result.
I'm reckoning that the entire AP encompassing book 100 will be something special, and we may get some cool articles in book 100 specifically.

Perhaps the AP after Giantslayer will be a super-high-level sequel to RotR. A special 4-part AP that starts at level 16, and finishes up in #100, the double sized capstone 20th level finale!

That would be sooooo sweet.

yeah but then they will have to do either two more four part AP's or one eight part AP to fit the quota of the year and not heavily mess with the basic AP scheduling.

Liberty's Edge

These are great questions and some good speculation. I started a similar thread that was speculating about the entire AP that will be announced at GenCon here, but the incorporation of #100 is part of it.

Silver Crusade

Maybe they'll finally tell us what happened to Aroden.

I'm still betting on the "he called Calistria fat" theory that someone posted around here a while back.

Anything but a runelord , or the number 7, or anywhere in varisia, except super urban Myanmar

It needs to be Absalom

I'd be surprised if it wasn't Absalom honestly. It always felt weird, that it's been played up as like the analogue of the Free City of Greyhawk, but there haven't been large adventures that take place in there. I think there's really only been some PFS modules.

I think we can dismiss ideas it might be part of a box set or some sort of super large volume. That would play havoc with the submission model, which sort of depends on people paying a rather fixed price every month or so for a volume.

I kind of think it might very well be Aboleths + Absalom, which would be pretty classic and also tie into a key location for Golarion and the Pathfinder Society. Also I feel like they have been slowly building up Aboleths in the last few years, especially with information on the fall of Azlant, Veiled Masters, etc.

Silver Crusade

I'm still waiting for the one truly iconic monster that hasn't shown up yet in any published Paizo adventure that I've seen.

Flumphs would be a key part of a Dark Tapestry AP....

I dont have a link, but I'm sure I remember that being semi-officially stated, in fact. That Absalom was kind of PFS's playground, rather than being particularly well suited to being fleshed out in an AP (Hangman's noose was a pretty cool Absalom module, but it could have been set anywhere, to be frank).

It was a long time ago and wasnt anything strict along the lines of "we'll never..." but I'm 99% sure it was a staff member in the know, rather than just random speculation by a paizonian.

It would be great if the next AP was Absalom related though. The Absalom sourcebook was always in need of expansion, in my opinion.

I think AP 100 is just gonna be a regular AP issue but with a special foreword or something

Mr. Jacobs said elsewhere that the team is planning to do something special for #100. If he hadn't said that, I would assume the same thing.

We're going to do a very special foldout cover.

Unlike other foldouts, it won't give you two extra full pages—it'll just extend the width of the spine by an eighth of an inch so that we can fit "100" on it.

LOL!

I hadn't even thought about this until you mentioned it! So either the number is going to start running lengthwise, the font will get smaller, or else...

Issue #100 will be issue #1 of vol. 2 of the Adventure Path line!

More seriously, I predict that #100 will have a nod/shout-out to the people asking for a Test of the Starstone, and will therefore consist of (or include) an "Escape from Shadow Absalom" chase sequence.

I heard from a reliable source** that starting with AP 100, they are going to increase the page count so that they can fit the third digit on the spine. This will be the new model for AP's going forward.

They're going to switch to writing the numbers in hexadecimal, so 100 will be 64 - then they'll be good up until 255 (or FF). Tiny stickers with hexadecimal numbers 1-99 will be mailed out for fans to update their previous volumes to the hex way.

They're slimming down the font on the spine. That's how they'll do it.

That would be... one sec, let me calculate... given that #88 is dropping November this year, #100's dropping November 2015...

#1000 will drop November 2090. Provided Paizo is still around in 2090 and still doing the Adventure Paths.

Duh....

I mean come on, its so obvious that they will be. Wes will be a vampire. In a bloodlust-fuelled rage, he will tear Jason Bulmahn to shreds, (not because he intended to, naturally). Jason, in turn, will be reconstructed and become a reanimated flesh golem by Stephen Radney-MacFarland, who himself has downed so many alchemist potions that he will live forever.

Gary will have had so many parts of his body replaced by machines that he will be declared a cyborg and lose voting rights.

Both James Jacobs and Erik Mona will have had their personalities uploaded to the company servers so they can create material at the speed of computers. Liz, by comparison will simply been turned into a cyberghost and will haunt the website for all time.

Adam Daigle, Mark Moreland, and Patrick Renie will grow old and then suddenly become like Benjamin Button and begin to age in reverse. This will be a neverending cycle for them. That is, until Sara Marie figured out the appropriate countercurse.

And Lisa Stevens will simply ascend to goddesshood.

Oh. I thought James would become a demon lord of T-Rexes with his mortal memory intact. (Otherwise, that sounds about right and entirely believable).

You are rather optimistic (as you might see it, of course) regarding the date, aren't you?

Who can we blame if he does?

or maybe his blame cosmo thread is really just his s!#+ list and as soon as he has his big reveal he starts going down the list, crap! we only have 76 years to make up for all the stuff we blamed him for:)

edit: wait, i haven't blamed him for anything (yet!) it'll suck to be whoever did;)

You know, a video game version of Runelords would rock completely. It could be like the video game version of Temple of Elemental Evil, but without the bugs.
