I have a Paladin who's maxing out ranks in Handle Animal. Recently my party was attacked by a Behir, and after a long battle, we defeated the beast, but upon searching its nest we found it had laid 3 eggs. Being a goodly fellow I felt it was my duty to ensure that at least one of these eggs hatched, since I couldn't carry all 3. Anywho, I was wondering if I could rear it once it hatches. Or somehow make it my ally. I was reading that you raise a magical beast for a year, then you make a check of 20 + the creature's HD when it's full grown for rearing it. So, from what I've read, the roll I'd need to make to rear a Behir would be a DC 29. I want to make sure that this is legit.
Thanks for your time, and answers!

Acccording to Handle Animal Skill it requires a 15 + HD check, not 20.
As long as you just want to rear it no problems. If you want to turn it into your animal companion...well it's not allowed by the rules. And it would be up to your GM on whether or not to allow it and what kind of stats it has.
Edit: Though being a magical beast and not a animal increase the DC by 5, so you are right.
Aside from that, this is an intelligent creature that can grow to be a smart as a fighter who dumped int. It can also speak common (as an adult) so it might be a bit more complex than roll Handle Animal check since it will eventually wonder how you came to take care of it, so forth and so on.
Edit: Except BRF is right, that handle animal apparently doesn't work on anything with int over 2.

So, I was thinking that at first I'd have to do a rear animal check, then when it gains intelligence by growing up to the point where I can talk with it, my Paladin would use his Diplomacy to continue to interact with it. Does this sound good? I guess I'd have to get the leadership feat that allows you to have followers.
