How to go about finding players in my hometown?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Does Pathfinder have a player locator listing online that I could try for my town?

If you back up a few levels on these message boards there is a 'gamer connection' forum in the general gaming forum. Check that out. I also had some luck ( several years ago) with game groups on Yahoo.

I'd try looking for local game stores. I have no idea if its the norm or not, but I ended up getting into tabletop RPGs because of a place that had in-store campaigns to get people coming back.

I've tried the sole gaming shop in St Cloud, Paddy's, and haven't had much luck. Apparently nobody is interested in joining a home game when they have their own already. Insular bunch. Also, I had a bad experience with the FLGS in question as the owner got dragged into what was essentially office politics.

The funny thing is, I have no trouble maintaining a solid base of 2-3 players who seem to be having fun, it's just that I want one or two more to round out the group.

Game groups on Yahoo? What's that?

Been hunting for the gamer connection forum, and have had no luck. Could you please post the url for that?

Both Yahoo and Google have 'groups' that are social networking forumish things you can join if you have an account on them. Some are dedicated to gamer community in geographic areas. Depending on how they are classified, and your level of search-fu, they might be hard to find. Go to the home page for the overall service and look for groups, and then search the tree under recreation or games or something similiar.

Having a real problem finding what you mention, Java Man. Am still trying. Is there any way you could help?

I found the roleplaying group section, but nothing allows for searching a general area, like a state. Am lost.

I have also been searching this website, and have found only the online gaming recruitment page. Nothing for standard tabletop rpgs.

Groups.yahoo.com and groups.google.com
Then you will have to hunt through the listings.
That's the best I can do on this dang tablet with by current inebriation level.

Sorry man, but I give up searching yahoo. Their listings are insane. You can't look up anything by state, and I keep getting weird listings (like one for spanking and another for "adult furry rpg", yeech! and other really peculiar stuff).

I have also posted recently on boardgamegeek on a forum labeled midwest. That seems to be the most likely shot so far, unless Paizo has something I could use.

Scrolling down the first page in 'gamer connection' on this site I see a post referencing St. Cloud MN on the first page.

found the page. it's quite old though, dating back 4 years!

just messaged all 3 people who posted there.

Scarab Sages

You can also try meetup.com.

There's a Minneapolis/St Paul's group on there with 621 members. I don't know if St Cloud is anywhere near Minneapolis though - your country is too big :p

No, Minneapolis is quite a ways away, over an hour by car. That's too far to be driving each week.

I tried meetup.com, made a group specifically for nerds, but only encountered 2 others in the area, though I had left it up for months. One decided he was too busy, and the other decided he didn't like Pathfinder.

Scarab Sages

Maybe some of the members of that group live half way between you and Minneapolis? Try joining that one and asking. 621 of them - odds are someone is interested!

If those don't work, Roll20 has a "looking for group" function.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You tried facebook?

Asking your friends and asking them to ask their friendsis the modern way if putting up a post-it in the local super market...

Wanna be wild? Try putting up a note at the local library... (public and/or school, depending on your age)

Ask the friends you already play with if they might know some1 who would like to try...

The nearby group of teenagers, er, make that 20ish, got together in High school by slipping adverts into Scifi books in the local used book store and one in high school. Oddly, the ones I have met are the rejects from that operation!

I got a nibble from boardgamegeek.com, and have given him my phone number. So far this is all the response I've had.

I'm in the TCRA meetup, and it spreads pretty far. I met one guy from Mankato a few years ago at one of the meetups. And I've seen postings for Elk River.

There's probably more out there, it just might take some time to find it.

what is the tcra meetup?
