Gunslinger (mysterious stranger) + Swashbuckler

Good day (or night depending on when you read this,

I recently have had to change my character in a Kingmaker Campaign. First of all, I did not die. I was playing a modified version of the Artificer from Eberron and my GM / me realized that later on in the game the character would be able to heavily abuse the kingdom building rules and heavily unbalance the wealth by level of the game. Therefore we have both decided that the character will be changed seeing as how we have just returned to a point where this is feasible and with enough time between games for me to change the character sheet.

Ok so as far as a concept I have had a few flying around in my head, but the one that I keep coming back to is a gunslinging type character. I chose the mysterious stranger archetype for its charisma synergy and also for the fact that in terms of leadership roles later in the kingmaker adventure path the party is lacking a character with high charisma for the ruler role.

My issue of course being that seeing as how mysterious stranger / pistolero no longer play nice together it leaves me having to depend on my swift action and charisma for damage instead of getting dex at level 5, which in turn makes me only want the 1st level of mysterious stranger.

The other synergy I noticed was with the class swashbuckler from the advance class playtest.

Panache + grit combine according to the playtest with the classes. This would mean that if let's say I was a mysterious stranger 1 / swashbuckler 1 with a charisma of 18 I would then have a combined pool of 8 instead of 4 for either class alone.

So far the only restriction I have character wise is I cannot change my race: Aasimar, but I can changed the descended from alternatives under the aasimar race from the blood of the angels (i think that was the source)

Currently the stats I am working with (rolled) are 17, 16, 13, 11, 11, 11

Issues I am debating:

1) Should I just stay straight gunslinger (mysterious stranger)?

2) Should I just stay straight swashbuckler and then take feats to use guns?

3) Should I forget the mysterious stranger altogether and take a completely different archetype that lends itself to charisma / having a gun.

P.S. Before anyone suggests the holy gun archetype it is semi off the table as most of the group has been demonstrating evil tendencies and the GM has warned me not to be too far off the morale / immorale compass.

P.P.S. I briefly considered the bard (archaeologist archetype) or the ninja class for multiclassing into, is that crazy or possibly so dumb its genious?

Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Not exactly what you asked for, but in my experience mysterious strangers tend to love three levels of the trench fighter archetype for the fighter core class...

Also, I don't think multiclassing 'slinger and 'buckler gives you double charisma to your grit pool. I'm not sure if there's a precise ruling out there, but I seem to remember that in general you can't slot the same ability score multiple times into the same variable unless it's explicitly stated (such as via the alchemist's admixture extracts or the Kirin Style feat).

IIRC, Swashbuckler is an alternate class of Gunslinger and Fighter. If so, then as a result, you can't multiclass a Swashbuckler with either Fighter or Gunslinger.

I'm not sure the stacking works like that. For 1 a gunslinger with 18 cha normally only has 4 grit and never gets more unless his cha goes up.

My guess is a 1 level dip in either class was not intended to /double/ your grit pool. I assume the stacking means you can spend your 4 pfs on abilities for either class.

Secondly does the plzytedt swashbuckler have the its treated as a gunslinger rule like the other playtesr classes?

Surely the multiclassing restrictions for the hybrid classes in the ACG were officially removed in a blog post?

This is the exact wording from the playtest advanced class guide:

Grit and Panache
Grit and panache represent two paths to gain access to
the same heroic pool. For characters with both grit and
panache, they pool the two resources together into a
larger pool of both grit points and panache points.
For purposes of feat prerequisites, a character with
the panache class feature satisfies the prerequisites as
if they were a grit user, and vice versa. For feats, magic
items, and other effects, a panache user can spend and
gain panache points in place of grit points, as vice versa.

What is "trench fighter archetype"?

Huh. I do guess that does make it sound a lot like you would actually get a double-sized pool of grit...cor blimey that don't seem too balanced for a 1-level dip. By the way, maybe the trench fighter was a useless suggestion. Considering it's obviously meant for games taking place in, like, modern times and it's from an AP and gives gun training two levels earlier than a gunslinger gets them, I suppose I could see how a lot of groups would just ban it outright. I'm unsure of the power level of the mysterious stranger, though. If it's a bit subpar allowing trench fighter might be reasonable in order to give 'em gun training back...

Yeah I probably should have mentioned the trench fighter as well.

Does that mean Mysterious Stranger 1/ Trench Fighter 3 / Swashbuckler x seems to be a good idea or should I stay with the gunslinger after the trench fighter dip?

What is this build getting out of continuing in Swashbuckler after the initial dip to double the grit pool? I'm not an expert on either of these classes, though I have built a few gunslingers. Are the Swashbuckler's deeds (or whatever they're called) preferable to things like deadshot and targetting?

Grand Lodge

sorry you are right.

gunslinger the rest of the way.

I didn't realize the one ability I wanted from swashbuckler was given at the first level as one of the deeds.

Thanks!
