Scarab Sages

It doesn't really feel like Monday. So I'll have to remind myself to go get the junk mail out of the mailbox later today.

Scarab Sages

Work here is done. I'm needed elsewhere now. I'm needed wherever outlaws rule the West, wherever innocent women and children are afraid to walk the streets, wherever a man cannot live in simple dignity, wherever a people cry out for justice.

Scarab Sages

All right, you caught me. To speak the plain truth, it's getting pretty damn dull around here.

Scarab Sages

That reminds me. I should watch that movie again. I own a copy, of course, but it also just popped up on HBOMax. Along with High Anxiety, which I haven't seen in a few years and don't own a copy of.

Scarab Sages

Oooh....I should get a new episode of Primal today. Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

Weird. A couple of times now I've clicked to go back to the main Off Topic Section, and instead the site takes me several pages deep to threads that haven't been touched in years.

Scarab Sages

The boy is home safe and sound from his scout trip down to Corpus Christi. Sadly, he did not get to use his ghost hunting kit on the LEXINGTON. He said they still had fun, though. The people who run the place even told them some ghost stories.

Scarab Sages

The committee chair, whose youngest boy just made Eagle, tried to make me feel guilty because she agreed to go on the summer High Adventure trip when the couldn’t get me to do it. Not that they actually asked me. They just kept saying they needed another adult while looking at me.

Sorry, kiddos. I’ve got health issues and a currently dead career to deal with. But mostly the health issues. I honestly don’t think I could make it through such an arduous trip.

Scarab Sages

Happy Tuesday?!?

Scarab Sages

I guess. I'm fairly certain it is, in fact, Tuesday. It's mostly the "happy" part that remains to be seen.

Scarab Sages

It's supposed to be cloudy all day. Temps currently in the 40s but getting up near the mid 50s. So weather wise it'll be kind of meh.

Scarab Sages

Starting tomorrow and going through Sunday, the weather app is saying we're due for a ton of rain. So I'll have to remember to take my allergy medicine.

Scarab Sages

I started to delve into the assembly of the new treadmill, but paused after reading through some of the material. They recommend that if you're going to place the treadmill on carpet, then you should have a mat underneath it. This serves several purposes: provides more stability to the treadmill, protects the carpet itself, and hopefully prevents bits of carpet fiber from working its way into the workings of the treadmill.

So the wife ordered one that Amazon ordered as a "frequently purchased with..." item for the treadmill itself. That should arrive sometime tomorrow. Then I can get to work putting this thing together.

Scarab Sages

Though I am debating asking my brother to come over and help me lift the main part of treadmill out of the box and getting it set up on the mat. That damn thing is heavier than I expected.

It almost makes me regret not paying to have it assembled. That, however, would have cost me an extra $250 and had strange people in my house for longer than I would like them to be.

Scarab Sages

That said, I did find an ad in the user manual for a company that offers a regular maintenance service. I might take them up on that, if they have someone local.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, not much else planned for today. I'm going to try and drive down to the council headquarters to bring that young man's Eagle paperwork and get it signed off. And there's the required job hunting (which is mostly just a token at the moment). Later tonight, I'll have to bring the boy to the troop leadership meeting.

Scarab Sages

Challenge accepted again, poseurs.

Scarab Sages

I did succeed in making my way down to the council headquarters and getting that scouts Eagle paperwork approved. So now he's good to go for scheduling a Board of Review. I've just got to let him and his parents know, so that he can work with us to schedule the board.

Scarab Sages

I lucked out, though. Traffic was really light going there and coming back. It took me more time to drive each way than it did to actually get the paperwork reviewed and approved.

Scarab Sages

Then I got back and decided to both reward and punish myself with some Popeyes for lunch. Reward because I went out of my way to help this scout fix his own stupid mistake. Punish because even though it tastes delicious, Popeyes is very bad for my health.

Scarab Sages

New "Star Trek"!

Oh, you mean that show who's free viewing on Youtube was beaten in streaming numbers by a video of a plastic Spock action figure sitting in a chair?

Hehehehe..

Scarab Sages

I heard a rumor that new Disney Avengers is going to start off with the Fox X-Men characters destroying the Toby Maguire Spider-Man universe. So, kill off a popular hero and make other popular heroes into villains? Yeah, that sounds like something the idiots running the MCU would do these days.

Scarab Sages

And for reasons I cannot fathom even in the labyrinthine corridors of my own mind, I've been jumping on Diablo IV again. I started just playing some of my fire sorcerer, who already beat the first expansion. Now I've jumped over to my original character, a barbarian named Buliwyf, and I'm taking him through the first expansion.

Scarab Sages

Once spring roles around (March or April, I think), I'll buy the new expansion pack and play a paladin.

Scarab Sages

Hmmm...according to texts and emails, there was a fire at my daughter's school. They evacuated everyone outside while the fire department dealt with the blaze. It seems to have been an electrical fire in a storage room.

It's all taken care of now, and the students are back in class. Thankfully, it seems no one was hurt.

Scarab Sages

It appears sometimes The Universe does smile on us. James Cameron has apparently stated a fourth Avatar probably won't happen because the series has become too expensive. Meaning, I'd guess, he can't get the return on investment because most intelligent people don't give a crap about his movies anymore.

Scarab Sages

Apparently, there are Warner execs who actually admit to liking the second Joker movie. That explains a lot.

Scarab Sages

Damn! Apparently Buc-ee's is planning to open what will then be the world's largest convenience store, but it's going to be in Florida. If I were Texas, I'd accept that challenge.

Scarab Sages

I remember being impressed by Wawa back in my Philadelphia days. That was, of course, before I had ever set foot in a Buc-ee's. A single Buc-ee's blows pretty much every Wawa combined out of the water.

Scarab Sages

Which makes sense when you consider it's a Texas chain.

Scarab Sages

I hadn't realized how late in the day it was, and suddenly the boy was home from school.

Scarab Sages

I started to apply to a job this morning. I was working my way through the process on their website, when suddenly it reset to the very first page and erased everything I had done. So I abandoned the effort and made a mental note to try and not apply to that company again. If they can't even run an application process properly, I wouldn't want to work for them.

Scarab Sages

I really should check again to see if anything else has popped up. It's hard to get into the spirit of the search, however, knowing how quickly management can make other people pay for their mistakes.

Scarab Sages

I did have it confirmed by a current employee the engineering firm I first worked for down here is expecting a big job and will be hiring more people. Haven't seen an official announcement yet, though. I've been checking their website every day.

I'd go back to that place in heartbeat. Despite that they've let me go twice due to a lack of work. Doesn't mean I'd stop looking elsewhere, but I'd be happy to take their money while job hunting.

Scarab Sages

Scrolling through LinkedIn, and I saw a post by someone trying to make HR a good thing. I laughed because every point made in the post is basically just a sign of a horrible company and piss poor management.

Scarab Sages

At least I've trained LinkedIn to stop suggesting I connect with people at my most recent former employer. It took a bit, but the algorithm finally got the message.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of former employers....

When I was applying to a job, they wanted contact information for former employers. The dude I worked part time for back from early 2022 to early 2023, basically ghosted me and went out of business. So I didn't think I had any contact info for him. Luckily, I checked some of the files I had from that job and found a phone number and address.

Scarab Sages

So I guess it is good to horde digital information sometimes.

Scarab Sages

Which reminds me....I've got to buy a new flash drive to store all my Troop 1550 Advancement Chair files. At the moment, I've got them on my Google Drive and my home computer hard drive. I'd prefer to have something external though.

I do that for a lot of my files. Especially my family photos/videos and the maps I create.

Scarab Sages

Mmmmmm...I can smell the red beans and rice from upstairs. It is a delicious aroma.

Scarab Sages

I have to check for myself, but I heard that Smallville has now popped up on Netflix. Which is awesome. I've been wondering when that should would pop up somewhere. Been itching to watch it again. Why it isn't on HBOMax I have no idea. Probably because it would embarrass the GCU with its popularity.

Scarab Sages

HBOMax also does not offer a single Swamp Thing related movie or TV episode. That I suspect might be some kind of licensing thing. That rules for that kind of stuff do get crazy on occasion.

Scarab Sages

Hmph. Apparently Netflix is now offering an all cash bid for WBD. While I'd prefer WBD to remain its own company and become successful on its own, I'd really not like to see Netflix get ahold of them. That would practically guarantee no decent theater time for movies, and the rewriting of certain IP roles in ways that defy cannon for the sake of identity politics.

Not that WBD has been adverse to (way more than) a little identity politics over good story telling....

Scarab Sages

As evidence, I offer up that recent animated abomination that violates Middle Earth six ways to Sunday. Whomever wrote and approved that crap deserves to spend their afterlife being repeatedly put back on the menu by orcs.

Scarab Sages

The other day at the comic book store, I was perusing the dollar bin and found the first 5 of a 6 issue series from back in 1992. They were in good shape, so I bought them.

Today I ordered the final issue off a website I use. Also took the opportunity to pick up a few other one-off issues I needed. All cheap stuff, dollar-wise anyway. Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

I've probably said it before, but I despise recruiters who send me a job they think I'm a good fit for and it's obvious they didn't actually read through my resume.

It's almost as bad as when AFLAC kept sending me offers to be an insurance salesman. What in my decades of experience as an engineer makes you think I'd be good at selling insurance?!?

Scarab Sages

The wife asked whether I wanted cut up the sausage for the red beans or bring the daughter to pottery class. I chose the activity that involved a knife. And I’m very glad I did.

She dropped the daughter off and texted me. The traffic had been so horrible she decided to stay there and wait through the class.

Traffic bullet dodged!

Scarab Sages

Though I often invoke them anyway, I do sometimes wish there actually were road gods. Then I could maybe sacrifice a cow (or perhaps a bucket of KFC) to appease them and always have no traffic.

Scarab Sages

I’ve got about a half hour to kill before I bring the boy to his PLC meeting with the scouts. Debating on whether I’ll occupy that time with a bit of video game play or a bit of reading.

Scarab Sages

flips coin and calls it in the air

Tails it is! Looks like I’m reading!
