Anyway...
Once all that was done, I finally had a bit of time to relax. Played on the PS5 for a bit. Then the wife and I watched del Toro's Frankenstein. That kept us up a bit past our usual bedtimes.
It was worth it, though. What a great movie. Maybe not as good as the Branagh version, but still damned good. If you get chance to watch it, do so.
Now it's afternoon (a little past coffee time) and I've done all my usual stuff: grocery store, comic book store, lunch, some clothes washing.
I'll spend a bit more time today on that stress model. Then do something more fun and relaxing. Like reading.
In the mean time....I need my afternoon coffee.
Forgot to mention....I did something to my back...again. It's giving me problems. And making sleep slightly painful. I'll put a bit of ice on it later. Might even have to break out the old back brace.
IN a happy coincidence, while I was downstairs getting my coffee, the first load of laundry finished washing. So I was able to start that drying, and a second load washing, while waiting for my coffee to brew.
Huzzah!
And...surprise candy is the best kind of candy. Mine was only partial surprise, though, so I guess it's second best. This was the candy I snatched from the collections of my children.
Twix bars and Three Musketeers. Mmmmm....
I don't typically eat candy, but when I do those are my go to.
Meh. My stomach is bothering me a bit this morning. And my back is still bothering me. And tomorrow is Monday.
Otherwise, sure. Maybe a little happy. Let's see how the day goes.
It's cool and windy today. And I don't think it'll get much warmer. Other than picking the boy up from his camping trip, however, I have nowhere I need to go.
It's supposed to get down in the low 40's tonight. So maybe I'll put the heat on. It would certainly make my morning a bit easier.
And by easier...I mean warmer
I did eventually get that stress model fixed. Took a slight bit of adding some nodes and the proper settings at each one. Didn't change much, other than to fix the displacement issue.
That might be something I need to note for the future. Double and triple check to make sure all the nodes are properly connected to begin with. You can't tell just by looking at the model.
Anyway, the troop should be back at the pick up your kid spot by about 11 am. So I'll do a bit more posting here, finish my third cup of coffee, then go get a shower.
Not much other in the way of plans for today. Some laundry, of course. Probably read through my new comics. Perhaps a few other things as well.
Who knows? Maybe I'll even catalog some comics today.
Last night around dinner time I decided to put on a movie. I chose The Amazing Spider-Man, the first movie with Andrew Garfield. I always thought he was underrated as a Spider-man/Peter Parker. And the script for his second movie was horrible. I love that first one for it's story and the treatment of the Lizard. He's one of my favorite Spidey villains.
We followed that first Spider-Man movie up with No Way Home, the best, post-Endgame Marvel movie. And probably the only one worth a repeat watch.
It's also the only post-Endgame movie I thought worth buying.
Although, to be honest, I can't recall seeing a new Marvel movie since the Scarlett Witch movie. The one they tried to call a Doctor Strange movie.
One of the most disappointing sequels I've ever made the mistake of paying to see.
Anyway, tonight I'll probably end up continuing my rewatch of Blue Eye Samurai. Such an awesome series. With such a magnificent voice cast.
Well, the boy got back safe and sound from his camping trip. Several of the adults on the trip complimented the work he did and effort he put in as Quartermaster. I'm proud of him for that. Especially since it isn't the first time I've heard this.
Though I did hear some scouts seemed determined to come home less safe and sound (or not at all) by foolishly antagonizing some alligators.
Then I was speaking to my mother, and she surprised me with the news that Brother Number 3 is very much considering a move back to Louisiana. I must admit, I am not entirely displeased by this. Even though he and I haven't always got along.
She also told me my aunt and godmother, her older sister, wants to come home from the nursing facility she currently resides in. I want to do something to help about that, so I'm going to look into how much it might cost. She would need full time care 24/7.
I don't think today will be particularly pleasant. I could be wrong, but I have my doubts.
At least my drive to work was semi-decent.
Except for the whole "AAAH THE PRESSURE IN SOME OF YOUR TIRES IS TOO LOW!" warning the truck gave me. I'll get some more air put in them later this evening. I'll bring the boy to help me. Make him useful.
So, yeah. It was a bit chilly this morning. According to my phone we're down to about 39 degF. I put the heat on last night for the first time. It didn't actually come on at night. The house didn't get cold enough. It popped on this morning just as I was getting up, though. Which is what I was going for.
I brought some chips and powered donuts into work. Courtesy of Troop 1550. They were leftovers from the camping trip.
They had more leftover food, but most of it needed to be thrown away. I did keep oranges. The kids might eat those.
It got me thinking (again) the scouts really need a good lesson in meal planning. They buy too much food far too often. They just don't know how to judge how much food to buy to feed themselves.
The sad thing is the assistant scoutmasters (and other adults) are supposed to be helping them. I think the problem is they only look at the menu to make sure the scouts don't go overboard on junk food. That's not good enough.
So I'm going to propose we have a meeting to focus specifically on planning meals for various numbers of people. See if we can cut down on this waste.
As a bonus, cutting down on waste would be cutting down on the amount of money spent.
Anyway, not sure what's going on at work this week. The one big project that had an accelerating schedule is the one where the PM is out because his wife is having a baby. So that may have thrown the entire schedule off.
Not sure if I mentioned it, but my supervisor came to me the other day and asked if I had a license in North Carolina. I did not.
And then I found out my NCEES references were mostly expired. So, they needed to be reverified. Last I checked most of them had been completed. The only ones left to be verified were my current supervisor (the guy who was asking me about the license in the first place) and my previous supervisor (who left the company).
So I've got to check on that again. Though I think it's kind of a moot point for the moment. They needed to get the firm licensed in NC to bid for a job. It would have taken an estimated 2-3 weeks just for me to get my license. Then probably another 2-3 weeks for the firm (I'm guessing).
While I'm at it, I might also check the other states I'm licensed in. Just to make sure I'm still listed as the responsible engineer for the company. You never know.
As for last night: beef stew for dinner, along with finishing up a rewatch of Justice League Unlimited. Then I jumped on the PS5 for a bit. And then I watched the latest episode of It: Welcome to Derry.
It's a weird show. I don't know if King ever intended the military to attempt to capture and weaponize It. It's fun to watch though.
Guess who's back, back again?
Holy crapcakes on fire. It's been a minute. I was almost ready to give up hope.
Not really. The last week has been pretty interesting in and of itself. I just had to find different ways to occupy my early morning, first hour in the office time.
It wasn't that difficult.
Trying to think of some stuff to recap the last week. I joked on the Paizo FB page that I'd have to write things down. Probably should have taken my own advice. I'm sure I'll forget something....
Last week was super busy though. I think I stayed a bit late at work or worked a bit longer from home in the evenings almost every night. Did the same yesterday.
It's this accelerated schedule we're on for one of our clients. They're some big dogs though, so we say yes when they ask us to do stuff like this. I can understand it, in a way. They want to get as much done as possible on this project before the holidays really kick into gear.
