Still, most of the folk here at work seem pretty decent. A few of them come across as a little shady, though.
Of course, I have trust issues.
End of the first week of work at the new job. Not bad, so far. I’m a little peeved I’m the only engineer who doesn’t get an office. Otherwise, the work has been pretty straight forward.
One other thing that does bother me a bit - they want me to renew my PE license, and say they will pay for the classes I need to do that. They seem to be willing to slow-walk the issue, though. And I no longer value the license enough to pay for what I need out of my own pocket.
One of the big changes I have to make now that I’m doing full-time office work again - going to the comic book store on the weekend. Today, I tried coordinating it with dropping off/picking up my daughter from her art class. Problem is, she’s at the class for an hour and a half, which is way more time than I need to get to and from the comic book store. That’s including jibber-jabber time. I even stopped at the grocery store on the drive between to pick up a few things.
So….that could prove annoying.
Have I mentioned yet today how much the physical effects of getting old suck?
Brrr….it was actually in the 30s this morning. Stupid winter’s last, last gasp.
Huzzah!
I completed all the necessary PDH hours to reactivate my Professional Engineering License. Theoretically, I now just have to email all the appropriate documentation to the Texas board and wait.
What’s even better - the company paid for it and let me take the courses on company time.
There is a reason I love the old phrase “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” Although, in truth, I think the word “right” should be dropped from the phrase. It would work better.
Ugh! Felt like crap all day long. Finally had to go to the ER for the chest pain, just to be sure. Nothing life threatening, they said. Still, they couldn't tell me what the problem was.
Finally back in the office today. When people have asked me how I feel, I tell them “like dog poop that’s been stepped on. The. scrapped off the shoe, stepped on again, scrapped off again, and eaten by another dog.”
I think I’d give almost anything to have just one year of feeling healthy.
Hell, maybe even just one month.
Sometimes, I really wish I could burn the damn Universe to the ground. Knowing my luck, however, that would just create more problems than it solved.
Stupid buried rules.
Turns out I didn’t need 15 Professional Development Hours to reactivate my Professional Engineering License. Since my license was inactive for 2 years or more, I instead required 30 hours.
At least they have the decency to cap it at thirty.
So that’s $700 down the drain. At least it’s not my $700 or drain. The company paid for it.
It's weird to skip coffee for a few days, then have a cup.
I asked my baby girl if I could bring one of her painting to put up in my work cubicle. She was thrilled. So thrilled she then painted another picture for me….The Eye of Sauron.
She may be a little “blond” at times, but she really loves her art and is pretty good at it.
AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!
Network issues!!!!! Damn those IT people. They started restricting stuff, and now we have network problems!
And so begins my day of fasting in preparation for a medical test later this afternoon. I look forward to the day when scientists inspired by Star Trek develop some new kind of scanner.
Ended a busy day yesterday in a good way - picked up a Blu-ray copy of Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham. Very entertaining. Very Lovecraftian.
I’ve never read the comic miniseries the movie was adapted from, but that will soon be remedied. They’re putting out a new collected edition to coincide with the animated movie release. So I’ve got that on preorder.
Monday. Why’d it have to be….Monday?
Actually, the day isn’t too bad so far. My morning commute was pretty awesome. Not perfect, but damn near.
Bid Evaluations. Why’d it have to be…..bid evaluations?
Seriously. That stuff sucks. Which is probably why my supervisor is having me do it.
I can’t blame him. If I were him, I would want to pass this crap off as well.
Huzzah! It’s the most Friday Thursday so far this year!
A welcome day off, even if the weather is miserable.
Might take the wife and kids to see the new D&D movie this weekend. It depends.
Dropped the boy off this morning at a class for his First Aid Merit Badge. It‘s being held at the same place we used to have his den meetings when he was a Cub Scout.
To my surprise, the location now has parking. I guess the people who lived across the street were tired of having a bunch of cars parked on the side of the road.
Well, today seems to be starting better than the last few days. So there’s that.
I had thought about taking the wife and kids to see the D&D movie, but then I decided the money would be better spent seeing the Super Mario Bros. movie. So we’re going to the 2:30 showing of that.
Well, one good thing about being back in an office - I don’t have to be home with the kids all day today.
Another good thing, as always, is the money they’re paying me.
Well, today seems to be going well so far. I am, of course, suspicious.
Huzzah!!
HR added the “P. E.” after my last name!!
I could really get to liking this “work from home every Wednesday” thing.
Except I’ve very quickly become spoiled by the three screens at my office desk, and don’t like having to just use the one little laptop screen.
I've been using a program called Bluebeam Revu for marking up PDFs at work. For that, I've found it far superior to Adobe. The only real problem, which I discovered today, is editing the existing PDF text. Although it might have just been the format of the existing document being all wonky.
In the end, I converted the file into an Excel file, and did my editing there.
I only ask because that’s when Seven Kings Must Die drops on Netflix.
Happy Friday?
Hopefully.
It certainly had the potential to be.
What a crappy way to start off Saturday. Stoopid rain.
Do not anger Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil. It will stab you.
My boy can be such a little turd on occasion. At the store on Saturday, he asked me to buy more SunChips. I said “no” because he already had a bag and a half at home. So when my wife had to make a quick trip yesterday, he went with her and got her to buy more chips.
I warned him never to pull a stunt like that again.
I don’t think chocolate is much good for me anymore. Sad, but I’ll survive.
Unless a Dementor attacks.
My nephew made Eagle Scout last night. So that’s a hell of an accomplishment. And it will serve him well in the future.
