Maybe I should have been on the "right side of history".
My poor scouts....since the schools closed, we aren't allowed to have scout meetings, at either the pack or den level. Which, of course, makes it harder for those who haven't yet completed all their requirements to earn their next rank.
Luckily, my boy already earned his.
However, I did share with the parents something someone put together called the 30 Day Bear Challenge. Basically hints and ideas to help them work on their rank requirements at home. Then someone just needs to enter what they've done in Scoutbook (online record keeping), and I can approve it.
Huzzah!
Don't mind me. As the thread name implies, I'm rambling.
Stoopid at home learning, making me waste printer paper.
My crazy dog and her UTI are demanding to go out and pee again.
Or maybe she just saw a cat. Who knows?
Poor puppy! She does not like taking her medicine at all. The boy and I had to briber her out of her kennel with a puppy treat, give her the medicine, kind of force her to swallow it, then reward her with more treats.
Which reminds me....
Note to self - buy more puppy treats.
I also need more soft batch chocolate chip cookies. I'm down to 1 and 1/4 packs.
Holy Christ on a pogo stick!!! I was looking through my FB memories and realized that today is the 15th anniversary of me quitting smoking!
So, apparently, I am capable of making good decisions.
I'll do your landscaping for you, but you gotta move to Wisconsin.
Congratulations on the 15 year anniversary!
The kidlets are currently huge fans of the movie Onward, and of the gelatinous cube therein. So I decided to show the boy my old Campaign Cartographer maps for The Crypt of Illusions. It had a room with some gelatinous cubes.
That was a dungeon adventure of my own design. Only a few folks at Paizocon 2012 got to play a little bit of it. Otherwise, it's juts collected digital dust. I always thought it was kind of cool, though not the best maps I'd ever done.
Anyway, looking through my old Pathfinder files, I found some cool stuff. I'd nearly forgotten how much I loved creating maps. Started out back in the day, I'd create them with pencil (both regular and colored), even crayon.
Later, I discovered Campaign Cartographer. That was a pretty cool, CAD-based map maker. I've still got CC3 on my desktop, but I haven't really fooled with it in years.
I also found a file with my pictures from Paizocon 2012. Those were...better times. When I wasn't such a cranky a&*@@*+, and actually believed I had friends.
Memories light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories of the way we were
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were
Going back through some of the old threads I'd created. Damn! I knew I was an a##+*#$ at times, but I'd forgotten how much some of the other posters around here could be complete and utter douchebags. I'm pretty sure several of them were part of the reason behind the phrase "This is why we can't have anything nice."
Looking back on your own post history is sobering to see who you were before.
The man I was yesterday is dead. The man I am today will be dead tomorrow.
I think I was a dick when I first started posting.
Then I was just a lovable, fun-loving a+%#%!%.
Now I'm just an a@@~$~%.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll only be an ass. Or a hole.
On the up side, I scored big time at the grocery store this morning. Snagged the last two-pack of clorox wipes (great for cleaning up after the puppy). Picked up two packs of turkey breast tenderloin, destined for the smoker. Also picked up two more little things of hand soap, which we were finally starting to run low on.
Of course, like a dumbass, I forgot to pick up a new container of maple syrup (used in the turkey brine). So, I'll either have to find a substitute, or make another store run later today.
The cub scout pack is planning a leadership meeting via that Zoom thing. Huzzah!
Or....or...mayhap I can substitute molasses for maple syrup in my brine! I've got other brine recipes that call for molasses, so it makes sense.
Damn renters next door. They left a box of food container trash sitting on their front porch part of the night, and some of that trash blew over onto my yard. I only hope whatever my puppy was chewing on when I brought took her out to potty wasn't some left over food item.
One of the people visiting them had their truck parked in front of my house. Not really a problem for me, but the dog was freaked out by it.
Then again, my dog freaks out when I go to change trash bags in the kitchen. As soon as she sees the new trash bag, she runs for her kennel.
I'm really loving Amazon Prime more and more. Not only did they offer up Dark Shadows for free, but I bought the first two seasons of Batman Beyond AND Tall in the Saddle (old John Wayne movie).
Almost time to get the turkey breast tenderloins in the smoker. Unfortunately, I put too much brine in the container earlier this morning, and some of it squeezed out through the seal between container and lid. So I'll also have a bit of cleaning to do in my fridge.
YEEEEAAAARRRRGGGHH!!!
I'm already getting very tired of not being paid to do most of the teachers' work for them. I'm pretty sure I'd never make it as a homeschooler.
Either that, or my lessons would be vastly superior.
Could go either way. If I were a betting man, however, I would not be in favor of "vastly superior", simply based on my current track record.
My PE license, which has been completely useless (after costing plenty of time, stress, and money), was up for renewal. In order to renew, you have to have have so many Personal Development Hours (PDHs). Those cost money, unless you're lucky enough to have an employer (they typically pay for PDHs).
So, instead I had to settle for setting my license to inactive, meaning it's just as useless as before, but now the uselessness is official. I still had to pay the $40 renewal fee, however. Either that, or they'd assess a fine.
And that, is why I hate government bureaucracy.
F*#&ing dog. Little furry s@#~bag woke me up at 0330 this morning to go potty, then continued for the next hour to periodically (every 10-15 minutes) whine a bit in her kennel. Just enough to keep me awake.
Reminded me of some people around here.
In other news, we're having a very unusual little cold snap here in Houston. It's in the 40s outside right now, at least, according to the weather app on my phone. Same thing yesterday.
Still, it's pretty enough. Sun is on full shine mode.
It's weird though, having my heat on in April.
Finally got around to watching Spider-Man: Far From Home. Not a bad flick, if you ignore all the teen angst drama and stupidity. I kind of like the way they did Mysterio.
I wasn't overly fond of the mid-credits scene. Not a big fan of the hero's identity being revealed to the world like that.
The after credits scene was just weird. Not a big fan of this continuation of making skrulls seem to be good guys.
Probably forgot to mention, but we heard from our school district the other day that the kids will not be returning to classes this school year.
So it looks like I'll continue to not be paid for doing most of the teachers' work for them. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if they're getting full pay throughout this whole Ordeal of (Not So) Mysterious Origin. Must be f~~&ing nice.
Hoping I'll get some last few comic books in the mail today.
During this Pandemic of Mysterious Origins, I've otten into the habit of surfing through available movies/TV shows on Amazon. That's how I found Dark Shadows, Hammer House of Horror, and movies like Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter.
Anyway, the last night I came across Demon City Shinjuku, an old Japanese Anime. I remember first watching it on the old Sci-Fi Channel's Saturday morning anime. Great movie.
I also searched for two of my other favorite anime flicks: Vampire Hunter D and Lensman. Neither was available. Very sad.
For the longest time, I hadn't been aware the anime Lensman was based on a book series. Eventually, I may have to purchase those books.
Speaking of the old Sci-Fi Channel...
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Back in the day, that network showed all kinds of cool s+&*. Great movies and TV shows of old. I think the only thing on TV I liked better was AMC's Friday night horror movies, which I'd watch with my old man.
Anyway, these days, the only time the Sci-Fi Channel is on in my house is by accident. Sucks what they became.
Even worse is the news website associated with the network. These days it's almost nothing but whiny little nutsacks (reminds me of another website I used to frequent more often). They do occasionally have some worthwhile news to share, but I'll usually find the same article on another site and share that to Facebook. I would never intentionally direct people to that site.
The other day, I posted on Facebook that my kids think their new teacher is an a+@@!&&.
I spoke with my mother, who is blessedly tech-illiterate, on the phone the next day. She asked me what teacher I was talking about, bless her heart. I had to explain to her that it was a bit of sarcastic humor.
I am, of course, an a&!&@$$. I'm sure there is no shortage of people around here that would agree (takes one to know one, and all that).
I used to be a lovable a*#%#@&. These days, I'm just a cranky one. I blame the Universe.
I've really grown to dislike the homeschool lessons the school district has provided us. Not because I dislike homeschooling (speaking for myself, I'm not overly fond of it), but because I think some of the lessons could use a vast amount of improvement.
TGIF?!?
Not really. I mean, how can you be thankful that it's Friday when every day is the same?
Still, we have a few days of sunshine and heat ahead of us, here in Houston. Which is good for me, because it means I can give the dog a much-needed bath out on the back patio, then let her do most of her drying in the sunshine.
Less back-harming effort for me. Plus, I get to introduce the boy to more of the wonderful world of pet responsibility.
Of course, if it weren't for this mysterious Plague of Unknown Origins, I'd have the freedom to take her somewhere for grooming.
I decided to rewatch The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. Such an awesome series.
"Did ya ever get the feeling you was being watched? That the eyes of strange things was upon you?"
It's your neighbors! They're making sure your just as restricted and miserable as they are.
