WOOT! The heat index is going down to 104 today!

Scarab Sages

Another s#*+ty day at the new job. Stuck here late again waiting for a truck. Last night it was to pick up our chassis so they could take it today and pick up our container box. Today it's waiting for them to drop it all back off.

Add that to some other s+*~ (part of which is my own fault), and I'm really disliking this place. It might not be the job for me.

Scarab Sages

And I can't even drown my sorrow in beer because I'm still recovering from a cold.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid cold. It seems to be attempting a comeback.

Scarab Sages

Ah well, at least there is The Defenders.

Scarab Sages

Just finished the first month at this new job. And....I've already begun actively looking for another one.

It's not that the work is hard. It's just that this place is a small business and is extraordinarily disorganized and chaotic. There's hardly any decent record keeping. The technical information relating to the various machines is either disorganized or non-existent. We have a bad case of "Too many chiefs, not enough Indians". And with all these problems, the bosses are attempting to grow a little too rapidly, which is leading to some problem situations that could have been easily avoided.

I didn't have nearly this many headaches in my last job, and that one paid me twice what these jokers are.

Scarab Sages

Still, they are paying me. That, and the convenience of the location, has (so far) been the only thing keeping me there.

However, we are coming up on one of our "busy periods", where nearly everyone will be on site visits for most of September, into October. Depending on how this travel goes, it could be the straw that breaks the proverbial camel's back.

Scarab Sages

At least this place is still good for something - a somewhat safe place to vent.

Scarab Sages

Just after 7:00 am and the sun's coming up. Might be time to get outside and do some gardening, while the temp is still in the 70s.

Scarab Sages

The boy starts first grade tomorrow. So today shall be haircut day.

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

Be safe, Zombie!

Ah ain't scairt! Got me a fridge full of beer and a week's supply of Funyuns. Ah'm all set.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid storm. Lost power for about 8 hours. I think the tornado warning is over by now, though.

Scarab Sages

Then again.....they've just extended the watch again.

Plus side Zombie person, you can dance like there's no one around.

Scarab Sages

So....my neighbors heard about the tornado supposedly near the small airport a few miles away. They packed up some stuff in their cars and headed out.

And here I was, just thinking "where the f*~& you gonna go....?" Most of the major roads are closed at some point. Several of them have basically become rivers. Not to mention all the creeks, bayous, rivers, and other bodies of water overflowing their banks....

Scarab Sages

Stoopid rain.

Scarab Sages

The boy's school is closed all week. The county asked most schools to close because they might need them as shelters.

My work is closed tomorrow as well.

I'm pretty sure the wife told me her work is closed. Wouldn't have mattered much anyway. Most of the routes between our house and her office are flooded at some point.

Scarab Sages

Again, I say....stoopid rain.

Scarab Sages

Holy s@%!balls! For the first time in days, my street has actually had time to dry out. Of course, that's partly because the wind has picked up considerably.

Still, no tornado or flashy flood watches for the moment. That's a welcome break from the last two days.

Scarab Sages

And they are saying there is the potential for more rain, depending on what this damnable storm does next.

Scarab Sages

Getting more rain. Started up again a few hours ago. However, I was able to get out of the house for a bit - picked up my brother and we ran over to the grocery store. It was packed as s+&@, but everyone was being super cool and polite to each other.

And the store had plenty of stuff. Except bread, of course. What was left was either hard as a rock, or organic tortillas (which no one was touching).

We lucked out on check-out - of the two registers we had to choose from, we picked the one whose computer didn't fail a few minutes later.

Stay Safe Zombie!
We're prepping for a lot of rain here in Lousy-anna (supposedly) in the next few days.
But you guys got it all first! :)

Some of the pictures I've seen of Houston are ridiculous. Like Post-Katrina levels of ridiculous. O_O

Again, Stay Safe!

Scarab Sages

I've heard people say this is the kind of flooding you might only see every 500 - 1000 years. It's been f!@$ing insane, and will continue to be so for a good while. Hell, we're still getting s!@& tons of rain.

Scarab Sages

I'm just counting my blessings that a few hours without power was the worst my family has seen so far.

That and no bread. Stoopid storm.

Scarab Sages

Another wet morning, but it seems the worst might finally be over (for me at least). I think we've got another day of (much lighter) rain.

And now I need to go find some wood to knock on......

Scarab Sages

It's weird, but as much as I dislike my job, I really miss being there. Part of it, I guess, is just knowing how much s%+~ needs to get done over there.

Scarab Sages

Sunshine and blue skies today, so of course work was open and I was there bright and early. Not everyone could make it in, though. Most of our work schedule is now right out the window, except for the one job I was hoping would be delayed.

Of course. The one thing you DIDN'T want to do is due today!

So,... business as usual then? :D

Man, 500-1000 years my @$$. This is twice in just, what, 11 years?
(Katrina and now this) :/

Glad your OK Zombeh. You and yours stay dry!

As near I can find: Katrina dropped 17 inches, Harvey dropped 51. Hence, 500 year storm.

Ah, that may be correct, I was just comparing the flooding. :/

Either way,... Harvey Sucks! :)

I realized last night that I have never taught my son how to make a proper ransom note. I should probably get on that.

Also on the topic of Harvey, I believe most people say "for the area" in connection to it as well, further separating it from Katrina.

Scarab Sages

Lots of people in Lowes yesterday.

Finally picked up a bluray copy of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. It was just as entertaining as the first time I watched it.

Scarab Sages

A boring and uneventful weekend. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make me feel a little bummed that I don't get more accomplished.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid hurricane, preventing my comic book store from getting the new books in this week.

Scarab Sages

With the new job, I'll be participating in 12 hour shifts on site visits. From what I've been told so far (not sure if it's true), there might be some times during the shift where we're just kind of twiddling our thumbs. I'm hoping I'll be able to use those times to catch up on some reading.

Scarab Sages

I decided yesterday that our morning routine needs a bit of change. So, for the time being, it is a work in progress. We shall see what kind of routine we finally fall into.

Scarab Sages

We finally received our new machine from the UK. Yesterday, we were preparing it to leave on a job visit tomorrow morning. This involves making sure it operates properly, testing the launchers, and adding whatever extra equipment and spare parts might be needed.

One thing we needed was 7 valves - 6 standard 3/4 inch ball valves, and one 3/4" ball valve with a spring return handle. Thanks to Hurricane Harvey, shipments into the city are....problematic, at best. So I called Grainger to see what might be available. The location we typically pick up from had.....exactly 6 standard 3/4 inch ball valves, and one 3/4" ball valve with a spring return handle.

F$*!ing creepy.

Scarab Sages

On the other hand, some hoses we order, that were supposed to be ready yesterday, won't be ready until next week. Thank you shipping delays.

Scarab Sages

On the other, other hand, my boss was b!*%*ing and moaning because people....gasp....left work at closing time on Friday and at least one of his machines wasn't "ready to go", thanks to some of said machines obsolete components, which are next to impossible to get parts for.

Scarab Sages

I look forward to one day leaving this job and getting back to engineering.

Scarab Sages

For now, however, it is a paycheck.

Scarab Sages

Well, that was a loooooonnnnnggg day.

Scarab Sages

T.G.I.F.

Scarab Sages

Yesterday morning, I was filled with desire for a turkey sammich as breakfast. Alas! There was no more turkey! My wife had eaten the last two slices.

So, when we went to the grocery store yesterday, I made sure to get a full pound.

This morning, I have my turkey breakfast sammich.

Scarab Sages

Mmmmmm.....turkey sammich.

Scarab Sages

The boy had a nightmare during the night, and woke his mother up. He asked if he could sleep on the love seat downstairs, and if she would sleep on the neighboring sofa. She agreed.

This morning, when I walked out, I did not see the boy. I checked his room and he was not there. I called his name and no answer. Found him hiding in his old Thomas the Train tent. I restrained myself from busting his ass, but his Kindle was taken away for the rest of the day.
