The glory of sleeping is far too often taken for granted, methinks

Scarab Sages

Indeed. I wish my children would understand.

Sleep is wasted on the young. Alas, the consolation is that karma will eventually teach them its value.

Scarab Sages

For perhaps the one millionth time in the past year, I wish nothing but ill upon the douchebag company that laid me off.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise.....HAPPY FRIDAY!

Scarab Sages

A decent Friday (for me anyway) - the kids were fairly well-behaved. After lunch I took them to splash pad for a bit. Following that, baby girl watched Frozen upstairs, the boy watched Pokémon episodes on his Kindle, and I played a bit of Diablo III.

Family movie night consisted of the usual pizza dinner and the movie Sing (very entertaining). Once the kids were in bed, I finally started the wife on her first (my second) binge watching of the Daredevil series. It's the only one of the Netflix Marvel series she hasn't seen, and we've got to get ready for The Defenders.

Scarab Sages

This morning I may try to get outside for a bit and de-weed the garden areas out front.

There was a post on FB yesterday by one of my Fraternity Brothers. He was visiting the old school with his son, and had gone by the location of our old fraternity house, which had been replaced by a parking lot.

Now the song Big Yellow Taxi (the Counting Crows version) is stuck in my head.

Scarab Sages

I knew I was forgetting something yesterday. I neglected to go to the cleaners and pick up my dress shirt and slacks. I'm going to need them tomorrow afternoon.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid storm last night. It interrupted the last few minutes of the episode of Daredevil we were watching. It then kept the power going on and off for the next 20 minutes or so.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise, happy Monday!

Found out yesterday that some family friends, an elderly couple, had been viciously attacked in their home by a neighborhood teen. They are both in the hospital. The husband, who is 89 years old, is not doing well, last I heard. The wife, who is a good friend of my aunt, and once worked part time for my father, is in better condition, but still pretty messed up.

The little s!&+bag attacked them with a hammer, then stole their car. He wrecked it in Baton Rouge and was promptly arrested. So far, he's being charged with two counts of attempted murder, among other things.

What the f#%! is wrong with people?

I am sorry to hear about your family friends. I hope they lock the SOB up for life.

Do what I finally did. Get an UPS for your TV and cable box. I got mine so any power outages would not drop power to my X-Box 360 and X-Box One. The cable box and TV are also hooked up to it. But if you get one, get a higher capacity one. The more juice the better.

The wife finally convinced me to pick up the Necromancer class. I guess I will be binging some Diablo III this weekend on the X-Box One.

I like it. And I've already beaten the game with my Hardcore Necromancer. The only complaint I have so far is the lack of Legendary Scythes and Phylacteries that can be added to the craftsman's skill set.

Still, he's been a pretty lucky character so far. During the course of game play he found two Puzzle Rings.

I'm betting his lawyer will go with an insanity plea, since I've heard the kid is a few cans shy of a six-pack.

The husband (Mr. Phil) is, unfortunately, not doing well. So the chance that one of the "attempted murder" charges will be changed to "murder" is very much increasing. The wife (Mrs. Anita) is doing better at least. She nearly lost two fingers, but her head injury is not as severe.

Also, looks like I finally have a new job (pending what should be a successful round of drug testing). It's a company called Cokebusters. They do decoking and tube inspections. I'd be their Technical Manager.

It's not the job I was hoping for, but it's a job. And it doesn't pay nearly as much as my previous job, but it pays. And there seems to be some room for quick advancement in pay scale.

Congratulations Zombeh!

Gratz Zombie!

Gratz Zombie! Good luck with the new job!

And my prayers for your family friends.

Hmmm.......The guys who are supposedly hiring me told me on Tuesday that by sometime Wednesday I should see an official email with their offer. I have yet to see such an email. I don't know if I should be worried, or happy.

Scarab Sages

Well, I know which one I "should", but not which one I actually am.

Scarab Sages

Got a call from a buddy at my previous place of employment. He was asked to call me about a question regarding the project I had worked on while there. I suppose my former supervisor didn't have the stones to call me himself.

Scarab Sages

On the plus side, the wife and I finished Daredevil season 1 last night, and watched the first episode of season 2. She enjoyed the series. I told her season 2 was even more dark and grim. After the first episode, she knew what I had meant.

Scarab Sages

Also, HAPPY FRIDAY!

Scarab Sages

Spider-Man: Homecoming was a pretty damned good movie.

Scarab Sages

There was about an hour this morning where I was the only one in the house awake. The silence was glorious!

Scarab Sages

Then my baby girl woke up.

Scarab Sages

I went to the grocery store early than usual yesterday, hoping to beat the rain. That....didn't work out so well.

Oh well, I needed a new umbrella yesterday.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Last night, since Netflix was being stubborn and preventing me from continuing to introduce Daredevil Season 2 to my wife, I played Diablo 3 and drank beer instead. After a bit, I got hungry, so I made a sammich. While eating it, I kind of felt like Dagwood Bumstead.

Scarab Sages

So much for all the rain they said we'd be having since Saturday. We did have a bit of a storm that afternoon, but ever since yesterday morning, it's been sunshine.

Scarab Sages

My wife's birthday is a week from today. She already told me what she wants - a treadmill. She found one at Academy, on sale...for $450. Never mind that we have nowhere to put it.

Scarab Sages

I really have to do better about not sleeping on my left side.

Scarab Sages

I think I also need a new pillow.

Scarab Sages

Poor George the fish. My wife refuses to do her accepted duty and clean his tank. It's been at least two months, I think.

Scarab Sages

We now also have Larry the Spider. He lives under the sink in our half-bath. Mostly comes out at night. I've even convinced the boy to talk to Larry and say nice things. Without freaking out.

Scarab Sages

Because, of course, my children have both inherited their mother's irrational fear of spiders.

Scarab Sages

Another bright, sunshiny day. I think it might be time to start planning things for the wife's birthday on Monday.

Scarab Sages

It seems like a good day to do some house cleaning.

Scarab Sages

And some preparations for next week.

Scarab Sages

For the moment, however, there are biscuits in the oven and a fresh cup of coffee....somewhere.

My fresh coffee is in my metal insulated cup. Sitting on top of the heater in my office being kept nice and warm.

Wait, it's already almost gone?!? It's too early to be already almost gone!

Why is the coffee always gone? :(

Ummm, biscuits.

I recently began a diet, and ended up on the Keto plan, more or less. No carbs. like at all. (Any plan that allows and encourages me to eat meat I am all about!) :)

My mother sent me a recipe for coconut flour cheddar biscuits. I may be trying that out this weekend.

Scarab Sages

So, yesterday I decided to start clearing out old files. Since they needed to be destroyed in some way, and my own small shredder was probably not up to the task, I called a place to see about getting it done. This place wanted to charge me $100 to come to my house and destroy two printer paper boxes worth of files.

After that, I went over to Lowe's and bought a small, back-yard fire pit for $49. It may take a little longer to whittle down the collection of paper, but it'll be worth it to never have to spend money on a shredder again.

Scarab Sages

Plus, I get to burn s!~+. So there's the indulging of my inner pyro.

Scarab Sages

Methinks it might be a good day to take a drive over to the comic book store.

I have also missed you a great deal.

That was from 2015. I dropped off the face of the earth again. :(

Yeah, so in the spring of 2015, my place of employment started handing employee improvement plans to (only female!) employees - and then letting them go two weeks later. we went from 6 women in the depart to 2, and I and the other were definitely in the crosshairs. I was looking desperately for a new job, while refusing to throw my coworker under the bus. Eventually I was fired (no improvement plan, even!) for not doing another employee's job (no, really, they really told me that was the reason!). I continued interview processes for 3 different job opportunities I was pursuing, took in some newborn kittens, went on about 10 interviews, including some good, some catastrophic, and one programming test that was 4 hours long. Fought against my old company for unemployment, and won. I lost my Japanese cat Hikari, and when I was driving back from having her put down, got the offer I was waiting for. Started the new job, lost my maternal grandmother, got back from the funeral, lost my paternal grandfather.

In about five weeks.

Yeah.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger though, right?

Nietzsche thought so

Glad to have you back, Jess. Here is hoping things get better. Sorry about your losses.
