Scarab Sages

Last night, just for s*$#s and giggles, I watched Creature from the Black Lagoon. Such an awesome flick.

Scarab Sages

Apparently, there's a very large bobcat roaming around parts of Mandeville, LA. That's where my mother lives. I told her to watch out, especially with regards to her little dog.

Scarab Sages

Turns out my boy likes both live action Scooby Doo movies. He had already become a fan of the cartoon versions.

There is hope for him yet.

It is only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believe in me

It is only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believe in me

Without your love
It's a honky-tonk parade
Without your love
It's a melody played
In a penny arcade

It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believe in me

It turns out my boy seems to like Nat King Cole as well. This gives me hope for the future.

Scarab Sages

Jury's still out on baby girl's like/dislike of the aforementioned crooner.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of my baby girl....it's been amazing to me. People had been telling me for awhile how much easier it was to potty train a girl than a boy.

If she's anything to judge by, that s##~ is absolutely true.

Scarab Sages

My wife decided to work from home today. At least, that's what she's going to attempt. We'll see what the kidlets have to say about that.

Scarab Sages

These days it seems I get at least one daily reminder why I'm glad I left the New Orleans area and never went back (except for the occasional visit to the Northshore, during which I endeavor to stay as far away from the city itself as I possibly can).

If I recall the headline from this morning correctly, it was six people shot while sitting on their front porch. The other day, it was four people robbed at gun-point just a block or two from one of the major restaurants (where they had just dined).

Sad to see, but not in the least bit surprising.

Scarab Sages

I've often wondered what it might be like to witness a person afflicted with rabies. Now, I think I have my answer.

Scarab Sages

A small human just walked up to me, wearing a My Little Pony blanket over her head, and proceeded to go "Oooooo...."

Scarab Sages

Not the most terrifying spirit I've ever seen.

Scarab Sages

They are currently remodeling my local Walmart, and they're converting more of the check out area to self-checkout. I figure once their done, the split will be about 50-50. Or maybe like 60-40 in favor of self checkout. I love it.

Scarab Sages

Of course, the problem with the remodel is that now I have to find where they moved everything.

Scarab Sages

Thought about going to the comic book store, just to get the kidlets out of the house. Not a lot on my list this week, though. It just wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Scarab Sages

In the store with the boy earlier today, we found the newly release bluray of Bambi in the movie section. So that's the movie we had for Family Movie Night tonight.

Scarab Sages

All that is over and done now. The kidlets are in bed. The wife is....doing whatever the f&*+ she does sitting on the sofa each night...and I am enjoying the (in the word of Chiun) blessed silence.

Scarab Sages

At least two of my Facebook Friends were livestreaming the Journey concert in New Orleans tonight. I hope they survive being in the city.

You'd think I might be over-exaggerating that, but sadly I'm not.

Scarab Sages

'Tis a bright, sunshiny Saturday morning here in the greatest city in the world, Houston! I have two small humans in need of haircuts, and some grocery shopping to accomplish.

And....that's about the extent of my exciting life today.

Scarab Sages

I need to knock out some more of American Gods (the book), in preparation for the new episode tomorrow. It's especially useful to see how the show runners are screwing things up.

Scarab Sages

I saw and article about the Navy considering bringing the USS KITTYHAWK out of mothballs and returning her to active service. Could be interesting.

I loved that old ship, despite her nickname as S$#$ty Kitty. Her existence enabled my first two trips to Japan.

Scarab Sages

I miss Japan. Loved visiting. Such an awesome country.

Scarab Sages

Of course, it always sucked balls getting there. My third and fourth trips were easier, however, as I had quit smoking by then.

Scarab Sages

There are some days when I'm actually glad I don't really have much opportunity to game anymore. It saves me a good chunk of money I might otherwise spend on a company that probably hates me.

Scarab Sages

At least I have Diablo III for the time being. The new Necromancer pack should be coming out in the next few months, which will give me a bit more time on the game.

Not sure what I'll do when it becomes too routine and boring. Hopefully, by that time I'll have a new job, and it'll be Christmas. I was planning to get one of the new Nintendo Switches for the family....

Scarab Sages

I think I need to put up a sign in the house that reads "Welcome to the Land of Single Socks". Maybe in the entry way. Or, even better, upstairs near the kids' rooms.

Scarab Sages

Seriously, how can two small children misplace so many socks?!?

Scarab Sages

Aaaannnnddd......I just answered my own question.

Scarab Sages

F%$+ balls. I'm simultaneously posting here and on The Book of the Face, where I'm carrying on a sporadic conversation with my cousin about smoking foods.

And now I'm getting hungry.

Scarab Sages

They are making The Emoji Movie. It's weird, but it looks like it could be fun for the kids.

Scarab Sages

In some of my more insane moments, I've actually contemplate starting my own website and blogging about s#!+. Then, of course, I come to my senses.

Scarab Sages

I am slowly increasing the amount of housework the boy can help with.

I've got him helping fold certain stuff from the laundry (mostly washcloths and hand towels. He also puts away his own socks, underwear, PJs, and shorts. He's even learned to hang up his own shirts.

In the kitchen, I've got him mostly helping unload the dishwasher. Today I also had him help me load some stuff. And I've been encouraging both kids to clean up after themselves meal-wise (i.e. clearing their plates off, throwing stuff away, putting stuff in the sink).

Scarab Sages

Steve walks warily down the street
With the brim pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet
Machine guns ready to go

Are you ready
Are you ready for this
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

How do you think I'm going to get along
Without you, when you're gone
You took me for everything that I had
And kicked me out on my own

Are you happy, are you satisfied
How long can you stand the heat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust

There are plenty of ways you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him
You can cheat him
You can treat him bad and leave him
When he's down

But I'm ready, yes I'm ready for you
I'm standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
Repeating the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

Scarab Sages

What an interesting song to wake up to......

Scarab Sages

Yesterday, the Fates decreed that today I must sacrifice a chicken on the altar of my smoker. So, in about 20 minutes I'll put the chosen sacrifice into a Ziploc bag in order to brine for a few hours. Later this afternoon I'll pop it in the smoker, sitting on top a beer can.

Scarab Sages

It shall be a grand sacrifice.

Scarab Sages

Watched the original The Mummy with Boris Karloff last night. Such a classic and awesome movie.

Scarab Sages

After talking to brother #3 last night regarding food issues, I now have a desire for boiled shrimp. Maybe during the week......

Scarab Sages

It's not quite 0830, but I want to get my food prep going. So, in the words of my former co-worker: "It's close enough for government work."

Scarab Sages

So much pot meet kettle. It's sad in a way. Pathetic in most others.

Scarab Sages

In other news, I decided to once again use my digital thermometer for the beer can chicken I'm smoking. I had stopped using it because I wasn't sure it was accurate.

After about an hour and a half of smoking, I'm once again thinking it's accuracy is distinctly lacking.

Scarab Sages

On the plus side, the wife took the kids to the Splash Pad. Thus, I am enjoying Blessed Silence.

Scarab Sages

The beer can chicken was f@@%ing awesome. Between the wife and I (plus a little bit for my baby girl) we ate all but one leg and one thigh.

Scarab Sages

The new American Gods episode was pretty decent. Most of it was almost right out of the book. There were some minor differences.

The remaining 30% or so was more crap the showrunners pulled out of their asses, I'm guessing to either (a) try to stretch things out, or (b) be good little PC Hollywooders and give more screen time to a female. Probably a bit of both, but more of the former.

Scarab Sages

I noticed the Paizo site was once again having trouble. The only way I can access it is to turn off the wifi on my phone. Seems to be a common occurrence these days. Sad.

Scarab Sages

If the lack of access is as widespread as I suspect, it would go a long way towards explaining the lack of troll posts this morning. So that's a positive.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, the sun is shining bright, and I've got s&$% to do.....

Scarab Sages

It ended up being a better than expected day. The kidlets were well behaved. I got some s+&~ done. Baby girl took a nap, thus providing me with a bit of downtime to catch up on reading. And I've managed to catch a Sho Kosugi movie on TV.

Scarab Sages

Plus, other good news.

Scarab Sages

Poor wifey - she forgot to set her alarm, overslept, and is now scrambling to get ready for work.
