Now I regret spending money on my comic book storage units, instead of having a playset installed in the backyard.
At least we have the neighborhood splashpad and play ground over by the pool. The only problem with those is the bathrooms are locked unless the pool is open. So as long as I only go when the pool is open, we should be good.
Can't take either kid to the pool itself, since they don't know how to swim yet. The boy did take some lessons, but the place sucked balls and he didn't really seem to like it, so we pulled him out.
Of course, it's only a small regret.
This being Memorial Day, I was hoping for more good war movies to be on TV. Slim pickings, though. Used to be a time when TNT and TBS could be relied upon for days like today. Not this year, at least. Probably why I rarely watch those stations anymore. AMC had some movies on for awhile, but then they switched over to a bunch of episodes about that lawyer.
I thought about putting on The Dirty Dozen, but this was during the day when the kids were awake.
My "Did you know..." for this morning has me taking a trip down the fog-shrouded cobblestones of memory lane.
Mem'ries light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored mem'ries of the way we were
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were
And that song puts me in mind of my good friend, whom I lost touch with a long time ago. For once, I had actually tried to keep in touch with someone, but he proved illusive. He did show up to my wedding 10 years ago. And then, just a little over 6 years ago, he called one night. I was busy with the boy (a baby at the time), so he didn't stay on long.
Every so often, I see him active on the Book of the Face. Once, he even commented on one of my posts.

There was, in fact, a short time when I felt somewhat guilty about not staying in touch with people over the years.
Then I realized....phones work both ways, m%%@@&!@!@~&.
The boy's end of year awards ceremony is today. I was going to be otherwise engaged, but that "otherwise" has (temporarily?) removed itself from my schedule, so I can go see if the boy gets any awards.
The rain held off today, so I was able to get some much needed yard work done.
Otherwise, it was a pretty ho-hum Hump Day.
Nice to know the flagging system does work on occasion.
Today is the boy's last day of Kindergarten. The wife and I are very proud of him. He did well, and never got in too much trouble.
More importantly, he enjoyed school. That is what we wanted most for his first year. A great deal of thanks for that goes to his teacher. She was great.
And....this morning I ordered his supplies for 1st grade. It's very convenient - being able to order the stuff online and have it delivered right to his class. Loads different from when I was a kid, far back through the misty sands of time.
Baby girl won't hit kindergarten for another 2 years.
Next year, however, the boy's young cousin will be starting Kindergarten at the same school. Her two older siblings are already there. This year they were in 5th and 2nd grades. The older boy will be moving on to another school next year.
And, if my numbers are correct, by the time my older niece is in 5th grade, my baby girl will be in Kindergarten. Meaning there will be four kids from my family at that school.
And....just like that, the boy is done with Kindergarten. He had a great first year. All A's on his final report card.
And the school sent home plenty of stuff to work on him with over the summer.
A remake of Murder on the Orient Express? Directed by Kenneth Branagh, who will also be starring as Hercule Poirot? Awesomesauce!
I went to the comic book store today, but got there a bit early, before they opened. So I popped into Half Price Books next door.
While I was looking at books in the cooking section, someone walked up behind me and started talking to me. Turns out it was my younger brother.
He was also waiting for the comic book store to open, and popped into HPB himself to look for a Whole 30 cook book. So, while I was helping him look, we foudn a section on Gluten Free stuff. I took picture of him holding one and texted it to his wife, JEN! Fans of Batdad will understand the reference.
Amazingly, not only did I not buy any books at HPB, but I convinced my brother to add to his purchases.
Afterwards, we walked next door to get the comics from our respective pull lists. It was the first time we'd been in the store together since I moved here and he introduced me to the place.
Later, the wife and I went to Wacky Mongolian and culturally appropriated some of their delicious food.
And because the boy did so well in school this year, we bought him something he'd been asking for....a fidget spinner.
Yesterday morning the weekend weather was predicted to be overcast and rainy. This morning, we have the clouds, but also plenty of sunshine.
That's the problem with trying to predict the future. The future's just as likely to tell you to go f@~% yourself.
Not sure what to do with the weekend. The boy wants to get a haircut. Maybe tomorrow.
One of my main goals for this summer (other than getting another job) is to take my kids back to the zoo. It's been a few years.
continues to wait patiently for the Necromancer release on Diablo III

In the mean time, my quest to help the Monkey in his relocation (for which I have no personal stake), continues.....
Although it might be doomed to failure......
My neighbors are f#%%ing dreaming if they think they're going to get that much for their house. It's four years older than mine, about 900 square feet less in size, and they're asking nearly the same price I paid three years ago.
My poor Hardcore Wizard in Diablo 3 perished last night battling the Soul of Evil. That's one of the special bosses, based on Diablo, you use an infernal machine to get to, then defeat for a special item used to craft a Hellfire Amulet or Ring.

Day 2 of the hostage situation: The small humans holding me prisoner are forcing me to watch cartoons all day. They also forced me to make them lunch and dinner.
Reading an article on a website the other day, and one of those annoying add videos popped up on the side of the screen. I could have sworn the chick in it was my cousin. She's a former Disney character actor (always a princess), and aspiring actress. She even has her own IMDB page.
She founded and runs a company here in Houston called Your Party Princess. She's got a stable of girls who dress up as princesses and get rented out to children's birthday parties.
Come to think of it, she's kind of like a Madame.
Defrosted some gumbo yesterday for dinner. It was delicious. And I've got enough left over to probably get at least two more bowls worth.
Channel surfing last night, I found The Outlaw Josey Wales on AMC. Such a great movie. Probably one of the best westerns ever made.
I think, just to get out of the house for a bit, I shall take the kidlets over to the grocery store to stock up on some supplies.
I've been trying to enjoy the American Gods series, but the showrunners keep doing their best to f*&* it up. They've been putting in a lot of extra s*@+, especially about the dead/not dead wife. Although it is kind of nice to see more of Mad Sweeny, that dude's hilarious.
There have been...other things....they've added in as well. Things that, coming from your typical Hollywood douchebag, are unsurprising. It's just a shame they let their prejudices poison such an enjoyable show.
I've let it go for now, but if it keeps up I'll just stop watching and enjoy the book (again).
Keeping the kidlets as busy and occupied as possible seems to be a good way for me to maintain my sanity.
I was walking along
Mindin' my business
When out of the orange colored sky
Flash
Bam
Ali-ca-zam
Wonderful you came by
I was hummin' a tune
Drinkin' in sunshine
When out of that orange colored view
Wham
Bam
Ali-ca-zam
I gotta look at you
One look and I yelled "timber"
Watch out for flying glass
'Cause the ceiling fell in
And the bottom fell out
I went into a spin
And I started to shout,
"I've been hit, this is it, this is it."
I was walking along
Mindin' my business
When love came and hit me in the eye
Flash
Bam
Ali-ca-zam
Out of the orange colored sky
Well, one look and I yelled "timber"
Watch out for flying glass
'Cause the ceiling fell in
And the bottom fell out
I went into a spin
And I started to shout,
"I've been hit, this is it, this is it."
I was walkin' along
Mindin' my business
When love came and hit me in the eye
Flash
Bam
Ali-ca-zam
Out of that orange colored purple striped pretty green polka-dot sky
Flash
Bam
Ali-ca-zam
And goodbye
My poor wife....apparently several someones at her place of employment thought she was pregnant.
I was able to restrain myself from laughing.
Clearly, my children do not understand the idea of "it's summer, you can sleep in". The little s#%&bags were up before 6 am.
