I must figure some way to entertain my mother today. And, I think, pretty much every other day this week. While she will be spending the next few nights at my brother's house, she will be spending most of the days with me.

Scarab Sages

Perhaps I can arrange a lunch with some of my old co-workers. Mom might like to get out of the house for a bit.

Scarab Sages

Just hanging with my mom on this rainy Monday, and we discovered an interesting program on Animal Planet - Railroad Alaska. It's fascinating to see what people will do and put up with in order to live "off the grid".

Flipping through channels last night, I caught the original Predator movie on. Hard to believe it was released 30 years ago. Such a great film. Although the special effects are a little dated, the movie as a whole still holds up pretty well.

Afterwards, I popped the Predators sequel into the player. That movie was the only worthy successor to the original. All the rest were crap, although some were at least entertaining crap.

After yesterday being gloomy and cloudy, today is looking bright and sunshiny.

Scarab Sages

My boy is almost finished with his first year of school. That went by rather quickly.

Scarab Sages

There is a show called Alaskan Bush People. It's really weird.

Get to da choppa!

Scarab Sages

Another bright, sun-shiny morning. It was a bit on the cool side, however. That was nice.

Scarab Sages

I shall go to the grocery store today. There are a few items we have either run out of, or are close to running out of. On top of that, I shall purchase those items I still require in order to cook some gumbo on Friday.

Scarab Sages

The wife wasn't happy about it, but I did not sign the kids up for the summer program at daycare. They will, instead, stay home with me. No point wasting money.

Scarab Sages

However, as much as I love my children, I am not happy about this.

Scarab Sages

But them's the breaks.

Scarab Sages

I am considering trying to stir some s*+# up. Not around here, of course. Nor even here in my home.

Scarab Sages

Next Tuesday is my boy's awards day at school. I shall have to miss it, however, as I will be otherwise engaged.

Scarab Sages

'Tis another bright, sunshiny morning here in the beautiful southern United States. A bit on the cool side, but it should warm up.

Scarab Sages

Just for s%$~s and giggles, I watched Aliens last night. Such a great movie, even if it was made by that douchebag James Cameron.

Scarab Sages

I'm going to make some gumbo tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

I have, hidden away somewhere in the labyrinthine corridors of my mind, a plan to make a sort of lectern - a short one that I can put on my counter top to hold a cook book. There are ones you can buy, but I told my wife I wanted to make it myself. That way, I can burn runes into it.

Scarab Sages

Maybe I'll use the old Dethek runes from Forgotten Realms. And they will say things like "Bacon is awesome" or "Beer Rules" or "Vegans are douchebag ballsacks".

Scarab Sages

One thing I have definitely never missed about New Orleans (other than it being a crime-infested s@&*hole), is the flying cock roaches. Those f~++ers were creepy as s!&!.

Scarab Sages

Yesterday, I had the song Roadhouse Blues by the Doors stuck in my head all day. So, at the kidlets' bath time last night, I pulled it up on youtube and let it play. The boy liked it.

Friday has arrived, and the start of a long weekend with it. Oh joy.

Scarab Sages

The kids have off school Monday, so I'll have them both home an extra day. Double oh joy!

Scarab Sages

And, for Family Movie Night, the wife has invited her friend (and the friend's two kids). Triple oh joy!

Scarab Sages

Also, I have to bring my mom to the airport this morning for her trip back to New Orleans. I told her if she is asked to give up her seat by United, to not hurt anyone.

Scarab Sages

I'm going to make some gumbo later on today, though. In my new stock pot. I got it on sale at Kroger.

So, there's at least one good thing about this weekend.

Scarab Sages

And another American Gods episode. I guess that can be a good thing. Not sure, though. Last week's episode kind of sucked balls.

Scarab Sages

It's been a relatively quiet day for me, and my gumbo is cooking on the stove as I type.

And I think that's about the best this weekend is going to offer me.

Scarab Sages

My faithful old Trailblazer is nearing 100,000 miles. And I've had it nearly 11 years. It's the longest I've ever owned a single vehicle.

Scarab Sages

And it'll be awhile before I can replace it, so I have to keep it running pretty well.

Scarab Sages

I'd love to keep it another 4-5 years or so, then buy something I can pass on to the boy a few years later.

Scarab Sages

Apparently, a small snake has taken up residence in one of the weep holes of my outer garage wall. I happen to glance out the front door yesterday and saw him sticking the front half of his body out.

We have named him Sir Hiss. He is never around when we need him.

Scarab Sages

I am considering smoking something this weekend. Either some ribs, or perhaps Beer Can Chicken. I've done ribs before, however, so there's less incentive there. Although they would probably be easier.

Scarab Sages

My gumbo turned out good again. I used a different type of andouille sausage this time, something a bit spicier, and wasn't sure how it would affect the taste. It was fine.

Our guest, my wife's friend, had never had any before, and ate two bowls. She also took some home. And I still had enough to fill two quart bags, which went into the freezer for future consumption.

Scarab Sages

Telling a six-year old I wouldn't just go out and buy him Pokémon cards so he can fulfill his life-long dream of becoming a pokemon master, thus reducing him to the status of whiny little s~#%, is oddly satisfying.

Scarab Sages

On the other hand, trying to explain to a 3 year old girl that it's not polite to keep lifting up her night gown and showing everyone her underwear like some painted lady is bordering on madness-inducing frustration.

Scarab Sages

And, yes, I did indeed use the term "painted lady". Because, in these modern, pussy-whipped times, terms like that don't get used often enough.

Scarab Sages

And now old Brother Gilbert is probably rolling over in his grave, after witnessing my purposely poor grammar.

Scarab Sages

If I get through this summer with my sanity intact, it'll be a f+#~ing miracle. Reason #5,342 why I hope bad karma bites my old employer right on it's collective fat ass.

Scarab Sages

And now, to make an already annoying weekend even more annoying, it's looking like we'll be getting a week of rain starting today. No splash pad for the kidlets.

Scarab Sages

'Tis a rather gloomy Monday, sky-wise. Many clouds. Predictions of rain.

Scarab Sages

Of course, this time yesterday they were predicting rain for part of yesterday morning/afternoon. Instead we had sunshine. So I take much of what those weather reports say with a large grain of salt.

Scarab Sages

I have a feeling I'm going to end up sending both kidlets to their respective rooms multiple times today.

Scarab Sages

Mayhap I will be able to interest them in a Kung Fu Panda marathon.....

Scarab Sages

God Bless and thank you to all those who lost their lives in battle while serving this country.

Scarab Sages

After today, the boy has only three more days of Kindergarten left. I have to remember to get a gift from him for his teacher. He really liked her, and did great in her class.

Scarab Sages

If this weekend is anything to go by, I am not looking forward to this summer. Being stuck home all day with the kids is going to suck ballsacks.

Of course, they'll probably spend most of the time punished in there rooms, so.....
