And, it looks like we might get some rain this morning. G$$%!@nit! I really wanted to go for a walk today.

Scarab Sages

Apparently, we have tickets to a Tom Petty concert this weekend.

Oh joy.

At least I don't have to drive clear across town to get to it this time.

Scarab Sages

My Diablo III wizards keep dying in Hardcore mode. Arrghhhh!!!

Heh, I've only played original Diablo.
It was fun, but my wizards kept dying. Period. :(
I tended to start with an archer and just boost up magic like a wiz.

I never got very far in that game. But it was more of a time waster for me. :)

I've played and loved all three. Same here, though - it's mostly just a time waster.

Scarab Sages

I am bored.

Scarab Sages

Sad thing is, I've got plenty of things I can do. Even things I've been planning or putting off. I just can't seem to muster any enthusiasm to do them.

Scarab Sages

As much as I love owning my own home, it was a lot more fun back when we were renting. My brother was just down the street, and there were many nights he and I would hang out in his garage, drinking beer and shooting the s!+#.

Scarab Sages

Nowadays, I mostly sit at the computer - playing Diablo 3, dicking around on Facebook, or posting here.

Scarab Sages

It's my own fault really. I am a notoriously "out of sight, out of mind" friend. There are many people I've lost track of over the years.

Scarab Sages

Ah well, no use being all whiny and b+!+%y. I try to leave that to another class of people.

Scarab Sages

If the weather cooperates tomorrow, I think it will be a yard work morning. There is at least one small tree that needs some serious trimming.

Scarab Sages

I really should get some mulch to put down, but they seem to only sell them in very large bags - the size that might cause problems for my shoulder. That is something I'm actively trying to avoid.

M. Night Shamalamadingdong's next movie will be the sequel to Unbreakable and Split. The article I saw said it will be called Glass, and have Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and the two leads from Split (James McAvoy and that young chick).

January of 2019. Just under two years from now.

Should be cool.

Scarab Sages

Saw that Jonathan Demme died. Sad to hear. He was a wonderful director.

Scarab Sages

I need new book shelves, amongst other things.

Scarab Sages

Two of my most recent acquisitions - a book of potato recipes (among other things) and a 10th Anniversary copy of American Gods.

Scarab Sages

I may have mentioned both of those before.

Scarab Sages

A sunshiny, yet cool morning. The temperature was in the mid-50s when I brought the kids to school. Very comfortable.

Scarab Sages

It looks like it's going to be a rather warm day.

Scarab Sages

I keep apologizing to my body for the abuse I heaped on it last night. I don't think it's accepting.

Scarab Sages

Driving past a nearby golf course the other day, I saw two teenage boys sitting by a pond......and they were fishing. That's a very welcome sight I haven't seen in a long time.

Scarab Sages

I haven't gone fishing in years. I did recently reacquire my old cane pole, though. And we do have fish in the subdivision lake......

Scarab Sages

I call it a lake, but it's more like a really big pond.

Scarab Sages

I thought I was getting better, but my poor stomach is acting up again today. Hopefully, I will improve over the course of the day, as I am supposed to attend a Tom Petty concert with the wife.

In other news, while the LinkedIn website is an interesting, and somewhat useful, professional alternative to Facebook, I've found the Indeed website to be vastly superior when it comes to helping job seekers.

Not that either have been successful for me.

Scarab Sages

In one of my frequent moment of self-introspection, I have realized I've become what for many years I said I would never be - a middle-aged engineer in the oil & gas industry who is jobless due to a severe (though hopefully temporary) slump in the market.

Scarab Sages

In other, other news, I accept this as the whims of fate. Also, if I had known what I now know before making the big move down to Texas, I'd have done it anyway.

It was never really for me. It was specifically to get my children out of the cesspool that is Philadelphia, and more generally out of the northeastern United States.

Scarab Sages

Plus, no snow.

Scarab Sages

In another bit of self-introspection, I realize I'm spending far too much time on the computer. I've got a couple of non-digital projects in mind, but I haven't been able to bring myself to actually do anything about them.

Scarab Sages

Supposed to rain today.

Scarab Sages

My boy continues to have periods where he is freaked out by this dream he had, of a friend of his being eaten by a cloud. I suspect this might be a recurring dream.

Scarab Sages

I'm willing to bet good money they officers of the company I used to work for have no idea, nor would they care, just how badly they f%~%ed me over when they laid me off.

Doesn't matter. Karma seems to be paying them back.

Scarab Sages

Not that I would go so far as to try to put a voodoo curse on them........

Scarab Sages

In happier news, my Hardcore Barbarian in Diablo 3 has started to kick ass. So much so, I've upgraded him to Torment I difficulty level. I play him in bounties, so I can build up resources, gems, and gold which my other Hardcore characters can then make use of.

So far, my only other Hardcore character is a wizard who keeps dying. I name each one Manshoon. I think I'm on the third one.

For those not in the know, "Hardcore" characters have only one life to live. If they die, they are lost completely.

Scarab Sages

I've found the key to kicking ass in Diablo 3 is to acquire a set of magic items. Most of them seem to be keyed to a specific class, but there are some neutral ones.

For my barbarian, I found one that makes him basically like the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Toons. There is a power named Call of the Ancients, which calls up three powerful barbarian ancestors to fight with you. Normally, they only last a little while. The set I started gathering allows them to remain until they die (which seems to be never), as long as you have two items of the set. While they are present, the Barbarian's Fury (which powers many abilities) seems to stop degenerating (or at least does so VERY slowly). Since Whirlwind needs Fury to work, having them active means I can pretty much be a swirling engine of death almost non-stop.

Scarab Sages

I don't know why, but I seem to be of the type that can play a game like Diablo (whichever number) over and over again, almost never getting tired of it.

In fact, in the last 20 years or so, the games I've played the most hours of have been the Diablo trilogy and two the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games.

The wife and I attended the Tom Petty concert last night. This is part of his 40th Anniversary tour. It was an excellent show. We had pit seats, so for once we didn't need the giant screens to get a really good view of Petty and his band. Most of the songs they played were well known to me.

Joe Walsh was the opening act. In between songs he would talk, sounding like he had been drinking heavily.

Scarab Sages

That being said, I was pissed by the time we got their, because the area is piss-poor for this kind of venue. It's a location called The Woodlands. Lots of trees around, hiding all the buildings. And the Pavilion (where the concert took place), is right near a major shopping mall, several other, smaller shopping complexes, and at least one grocery store. So Saturday evenings around that place are....crowded, to say the least.

Once we got there, it took us twice as long as the drive to, just to circle around and find a place to park. Later, after the concert, we had a bit of trouble finding our car again. So, I told the wife that's the last time I want to go there for a concert, even though it is closer.

Scarab Sages

That being said, I'm not really much for concerts anyway. Or any big events with lots of people for that matter. The reason being they involve two things I typically despise with every fiber of my being: heavy traffic and long lines due to crowds.

Scarab Sages

Still, it was fun.

And the Pavilion, depsite it's facet as a logistical nightmare, is the best place for a concert. It's an open-air ampitheater, with the stage and a large portion of seating covered by a massive, tent-like roof (complete with giant fans). Beyond the roofed over area there are grassy inclines for more people to sit/stand on.

Scarab Sages

F++& you, Monday. For no other reason than you exist.

Scarab Sages

I maintain my position of "F$#! you, Monday".

Scarab Sages

A bright, sunshiny morning. We started off in the upper 50s, but will climb somewhere into the upper 70s.

Scarab Sages

The boy brought home a plant in a cup from school. When I asked him what kind of plant it was, he wasn't entirely sure. He said it was either a flower or a lima bean.

Scarab Sages

I have...things....planned for today. A morning constitutional. A visit to the comic book store. Maybe some other things.

Tomorrow, I am very much considering giving the gift of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 to myself (there's a 0930 showing nearby). Followed by the gift of boiled crawfish for lunch at Tailgators.

Scarab Sages

Another year closer to death.

Scarab Sages

I did not have my morning constitutional yesterday. It was far to windy for me to have enjoyed it.

Scarab Sages

I am still very likely to try for the 0930 showing of Guardians of the Galaxy today. I did not buy tickets in advance. I figure if I get there, and the show isn't sold out, then it was meant to be.

Scarab Sages

It was a good Friday. A good Me Day. Got things kicking with some coffee and Diablo 3. Then it was time for Guardians of the Galaxy. Then boiled crawfish for lunch. Some more Diablo 3 at home. For family movie night, I got to pick the movie - Kung Fu Panda 2. Plus, I got my gifts - a six-pack of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA and a new Batman bottle opener. Once the kids were in bed, the wife and I finally watched the most recent episode of NCIS. Then it was some beer and a more Diablo 3 to finish off the day.
