Magical Knack - for Paladins, Rangers and casters with a two level dip

I agree this trait is awesome for Rangers and Paladins, but you need at least 4 levels in those classes to even get a caster level for the trait to modify.

Anyone spend the first level feat to get additional traits?

If so what traits did you opt for and what was your character build?

All the time, though I don't always take Extra Traits at 1st level. If chosen carefully, two traits can easily be better than a feat.

Here's an example of four I used for a wizard/evangelist skill monkey with a 1 level monk dip:

* Magic: Magical Knack (kept my caster level at my full character level)
* Social: Clever Wordplay (Use INT for UMD)
* Faith: Fate's Favored (Whenever under the effects of a luck bonus, increase it by 1)
* Religion (Irori): Wisdom in the Flesh (Disable Device is a class skill, and you use Wisdom instead of Dexterity for it)

Scarab Sages

Yes. What's your point? The trait does nothing until level 4 when you have a caster level of level -1 instead of level -3. It's no different than Taking Magical Knack: Wizard and then spending your first three levels on Fighter. Just because you have an affinity for a certain kind of magic doesn't mean you can take advantage of that at first level.

"Two level dip" to me means taking two levels and not coming back, which would make Magical Knack a waste of a trait.

Houser2112, you parsed what Mr. Connolly wrote incorrectly. By "for Paladins, Rangers and casters with a two level dip" he meant "For Paladins, Rangers, and FULL (i.e. non paladin/ranger) casters with a two level dip"

River Rat is a must-have if you use daggers. Oh, and you can swim, too.

Pioneer is not bad either.
