Mummy’s Mask MIA?

Mummy's Mask

Liberty's Edge

Usually around this time for a new AP, there’s a half-dozen recruitment threads running. I’ve only noticed a handful for Mummy’s Mask. What gives? Is the Egyptian setting/themes not terribly popular in PBP land? Does the AP have some glaring problems?

I love Egyptian stuff, so I would be up for some Mummy action were there a GM.

I do believe it's Paizo's fault. You see, they released Mythic Adventures and prepared Wrath of the Righteous for it, but Mummy's Mask wasn't made to use with the Mythic rules, so the games have been centered on WoTR or Homebrew games where they can use the Mythic rules more easily.

I'm playing in a fast-paced group who is doing pretty well, and I'm finding the AP to be awesome, although for now we did not understood the main plot of the AP yet. And we're using mythic rules. Go GM!

Liberty's Edge

I suppose that's possible. I didn't realize folks were that excited about Mythic.

If someone is willing to run one, I'm game.

I'm in a Mummy's Mask pbp that had no recruitment thread, I wonder if more and more people are doing APs with a known group rather than recruiting.

As a DM, I can tell you that Mummy's Mask is mostly a dungeon crawl game and not everyone enjoys that. Also because it is new, not everyone has the money for it yet, as lot of DMs may have saved up their money for the campaigns they are running now that they started a few months ago to a few years ago. And yes MM is expensive like 15-25 bucks each book.

The Exchange

I was just reading Mummy's Mask Player's Guide today to get a feel for Osirion. It sounds like so much fun!

Unless people are calling their campaigns by secret code words, I don't think there's anymore private Mummy's Masks games running than any other AP.

The game I opened was invite only. So far I'm really enjoying DMing it, and I hope to be in for the long haul. It almost immediately throws you into a series of dungeons, which for me is kind of perfect.

As far as I can tell my players are enjoying it. That or they're just choosing to suffer in silence. But I've been running the game since April and haven't lost a single player yet. Which is a little amazing, really.

I'm actually more shocked that no one is asking for D&D 5th Edition games, since the Basic rules have just become available for download. But I'm hoping that once the Starter Set is more widely available that someone will offer it up.

The basic 5E rules are kinda horrifically oversimplified in how they're presented. The entire PDF is basically a giant advertisement for the books themselves.

My view on 5th addition is this. It is too attempting to powergame for things that don't make sense. Did you know that a multi-class druid can wear platemail without taking any penalties whatsovever?

I'm sorry, but you seem to mention those things as if they are problems. :-)

I'll cop that the game isn't for everyone. But really offering something for free in the hopes that people will be interested in the full product just seems like good marketing.

I wonder if other companies might get in on that. Why, they might even make a whole event out of it. A Free RPG Day, if you will.

Well, you said you were shocked at the lack of 5E games. I would say that if they weren't problems, there would be more on these boards.

Thanks for the info Wicked. I'm glad to hear your game's going so well.

I would also be very interested in a Mummy's Mask game, if someone were to run it.

Same here, although I guess they come when they come.

Sovereign Court

I'm in a PbP for it, but again invite only. Definitely concur not many of this AP running yet.

I'm running a MM, everyone still interested submit a character. I'll allow one more character in and you will be in as soon as I reach book 2.

Level 4, possibly level 5, depending upon the exp, it will be close.
30 buy points
1 trait only which is campaign trait.
Instead of Drawbacks, you sacrifice 1 buy point to up to have up 3 traits. Additional traits feat is still allowed.
Races allow: Core + any 20 or less. Constructs not allowed. Every 2 points above 10 means you sacrifice 1 buy point. Kasatha is allowed at the cost of 7 points instead of 5.
Classes: Any non-3rd party.

Just started one... open call recruitment. Only 5 to 6 players will be selected.

It is up to you to impress me with your character. There can be only six.

Heh. Maybe my thread will stir up more latent DMs. =P

I'm running a group atm. We are half way thought book 1, however holiday time seriously get in the way for regular play...

Hmmm... I was thinking of starting a Mummy's Mask PbP...

I'm getting the AP, and am interested in it, but don't do the entire PbP thing.

Even if I did, currently am in other campaigns that would need to end before starting up another one or AP (as in the MM).

Grand Lodge

After three years of playing Legacy of Fire, the last place I want to adventure right now, is in the desert.

I agree it seems like a smaller group of people running this one, unfortunately. I thought about it, but honestly, I'm waiting for Iron Gods, which I'm a bit more excited about (and four games is my limit, I've decided).

I do think there's also something to the idea of more PBPs being private. I haven't decided when I run Iron Gods yet whether it'll be open recruitment or not, for example.

I also think there seems to be a ton of PFS scenarios being run these days. I wonder if the pendulum has swung to more short-form PBP games, which I could also understand happening.
