101 Ways to use create pit?

Homebrew and House Rules

So i've got create pit for my new lvl on another char.
I've a few ideas for it's uses, so hereby the brainstorm topic if there are any outrageous ways to apply this nifty spell.

1)Trap the [insert enemy] trying to charge you so your mates can poke it to death.
2)Hole in dungeon floor down o the next floor.
3)Slightly worse than #2;
-Cast it on a platform, causing the recipent to fall to imminent death?

4. Humiliate a foe by having to jump away every time you create another pit under them. "Dance, you Demon. Dance!"

Don't think 3 works, given the limitations of the spell, having to be cast on a flat, solid surface and creating an extradimensional space - even if you can cast it on the platform, they fall into the pit itself, rather than the space below the platform on the material. So that kind of nukes 2 as well.

Here's one my Council of Thieves party likes -

5. Trap an enemy in the pit then let a bruiser party member jump down for a grudge match.

2 and 3 don't work. the spell is more like an extradimensional pocket a "curve" in the floor, not a hole.

1. wont' work either unless it's a shallow pit, in which case you lose out on the falling damage.

2+3 do not work. It is extradimensional space so no connection to other real world places. You can even use it on a ship without any problem.

- Hide from flying enemies making fly-by attacks
- protect your squishies by keeping the enemy from flanking
- vs single opponents: Trap them in the pit and pee down
- trap the enemy, throw down lamp oil, dung from an everlasting bag of dung and something to light the mixture on fire
- cast grease + acid power component on the opposite part of the pit. If they want to climb out there they have a hard time and are dealt acid damage.

Not all of the above will kill the trapped enemy but sometimes taunting them is just worth it.

Or just to take part of your enemies out of the fight for some time while you kill the ones not trapped in the pit. When they climb out or the spell ends kill them too. Simple divide and conquer.

Edit: Ninjad about the extradimensional space stuff

8. "I fell in to a burning ring a fire": Create pit then whirl around a flaming sphere at the bottom.

9 Summon a vicious animal to keep it company...albino rabbit?

10. An easy underwater propulsion device. Just grab a box, cast create pit and enjoy the cat girl murdering monstrosity you created.

11. Cast it extended and carry around a Decanter of Endless Water - instant swimming pool that lasts a couple of minutes. For best effect use in the desert.

12: cast it so 1/2 of the pit is on our side of the locked door and the other 1/2 is the other side and then just climb down walk past the door and back up. No need for a disable locks.

13: Grand entrance for parties, with greater invisibility on cast create pit and climb into it. remove greater invisibility and when the spell expires appear to come rising out of the ground.

14. If a room is flooding via trap or what have you, cast it on the ceiling for some more breathing room and extra time.

15) Center it under a door you can't unlock to just climb under it.

Actually I once did have a party where #14 and fifteen were combined. A room was filling up with water, and a gate was blocking the way out. Cast a pit right under the gate, let it partially fill with water swam under the gate and escaped.

That's quite nifty actually.

I might incorporate something like that in my homebrew.

We actually did this against Krune, the Runelord of Sloth in Pathfinder Society. That guy loves his wall of stone spell.

16) Use the Pit as a teachable moment about the perils of spell cheese.

Combine with Grease for hilarity. Combine with more pits, creating an endless series of pits in pits. Then Grease the top just before they climb out of it.

Beware, i had a pit happy sorceress in a game once who used them to funnel minotaurs towards the maguses... the party thought it was great until one got bull rushed into the pit and couldnt make the climb check to get out of their own greased pit.

One problem with that. Create pit is an extradimensional space. An extradimensional space does not function inside another extradimensional space.

hmm, how about butting up pits edge to edge? the sloped sides of the pit arent really an extra dimensional area themselves are they?

Dark Archive

That would work.

Actually, that brings up a really interesting idea:

17) If an enemy keeps loads of annoying trick items in his Handy Haversack or Efficient Quiver, drop him in a hole to prevent access to them.

18. Combine with create water for insta-swimming pool.

The Exchange

One thing I've wonders about create pit spells is the line that says as long as there's room. If walls and pillars prevent pits form forming, the using it to get under doors won't work unless double doors etc.

Does it work in 5 ft corridors?

Any way back on topic, the group I ran last week user it to get the casters into cover from archers on a wall so they could summon flying beasts with impunity from attack. Was effective as both casters had feather falling effects available.

Cheers

That's nice, sort of like the own trench and bringing out the cannons.
