Download seems to be going a lot quicker on this one! Not sure if you hosted it somewhere else or just not everyone DLing at the same time, but it is only taking about 10 mins.

Its boilerplate.

Goblin Squad Member

It worked!

Goblin Squad Member

Yeah, I just downloaded the client in literally about 4-5 minutes. Much better than the ~2hrs yesterday! ^_^

Thanks!

Help, help! The bug is back!

Seriously though. One of my characters (main, "Kitsune") is bugged. Everytime I log off & log back on, I am partially reset back to when I logged off on the bridge in Sotterhill. XP is reset, Feats are reset, etc.**

"Elric" reports the same problem at this time. Our other characters are not being reset upon logoff/logon, but our mains are.

So again, "Help!" :)

**edit: by reset, I mean they are reset back to how they were when I logged off that time on the bridge - not reset all the way back to the beginning.

Goblin Squad Member

Same here, the one I spent 4-6 hours on today gathering recipes and material for crafting reset. The Character has no inventory, most of the achievements reset, all the skills and feats reset, and his experience reset to 2,000 which he should have had at least 2,200.

Characters name is Elric.

Okay a small update to my situation:

- I logged out on the bridge again, and it did NOT reset my position, but still reset the XP and feats back to where they were when I logged out.
- NOW, I can logout anywhere and it's saving my position again.
- If I train Swashbuckler 3 and Cut-Throat 2, They stick upon logoff/on.
- If I add Reflex Bonus 2, it resets all three upon logoff/on.
- If I train just Reflex Bonus 2, it resets upon logoff/on.
- If I train Light Melee 2, it does not reset upon logoff/on.
- If I train Light Melee 2 combined with Swashbuckler 3 and Cut-Throat 2, all three reset upon logoff/on.

I currently have about 1100 XP available when I reset each time (increasing, of course). This is in addition to the numerous feats I've purchased throughout the day.

So far, even with all the feat/XP resets, my position hasn't been reset since that one time logging off on the bridge again.

---

Cost Notes:
cut-throat 2: 346
swashbuckler 3: 189
light melee 2: 290
reflex 2: 434

So, does not seem to be correlated to cost, from what I can tell (unless I'm just dumb here? hehe), based on the fact that CT2+SB3=535, yet both of those stick. The reflex2 alone costs 434 and doesn't stick.

I have downloaded the installer 3.1. Uninstalled the original. Windows doesn't recognize the installer file. tried to run instead of download. still unrecognized file. Tried doing both with original Alpha installed. same result. Original alpha hangs at "Waiting for character..."

so help?

When I went to download it, I noticed that it was putting .1(1) as the program type which Windows doesn't recognize. During the download, I changed the "File type" to "All files" and added .exe to the end of the file name.

If windows does not recognize the installer then you should probably try redownloading the installer. Also talking to Ryan it sounds like some browsers may download the installer with an incorrect name. The installers filename should be 'PFO_Installer.3.1.exe' but it sounds like some browsers name the downloaded file 'PFO_INSTALLER.3.1'. If windows does not recognize the file type this may be the cause. You may try appending '.exe' to the file name (Windows will warn you when attempting this).

Thanks for the help, Belky and Taylor. I will give it a try.

I get the "Waiting for character ..." hang with the 3.1 installer. I was able to get in one time to put in a bug report.

Goblin Squad Member

Still bugged today. :(

If there is a bug it wont be fixed until the next code update.

Yeah, kinda expected that. But it's odd that my character is resetting back to a certain point in time - not a full reset like it was before yesterday's client patch. :P

The behavior pattern via Internet Explorer Downloader appears to remove the .exe suffix when the file publisher is not recognized. Possibly a function of Windows defender in another exuberant burst of Microsoft helpfulness. If you can see the path to the /downloads/ folder simply navigate there and rename it adding the required .exe suffix and it will run with no further issues, or so it was when I did it.

Goblin Squad Member

Recognizing that unless you have specifically disabled it, Windows's default behaviour is to hide the extension, so you can add as many ".exe"s as you want, but the actual extension is not visible. Recent versions of Windows may also refuse to run executables from certain folders, to prevent mischief, or may refuse to acknowledge them as being executable unless you run them with administrative privileges.

Goblin Squad Member

I have noticed a behavior difference with the game hang I observed, call it: "No character selection". With the base install it wants to place the extracted folder into Program Files (x86), I told it to install into the non x86 folder yesterday and have not observed the hang since (about 7 logins so far). It was occurring 90% of the time in the x86 folder.

Goblin Squad Member

Speaking of x86...

Any plans for a 64bit client? Perhaps one that takes advantage of two or more threads? And no, not Threads of Pharasma... unless Intel comes out with a new line of processors called "Pharasma".

Unity 4 (which we are using) is a 32-bit platform. Unity 5 has been announced and a 64-bit feature set. When and if we migrate to Unity 5 is something not currently on our roadmap.

Got it. Thanks for the clear response!

Goblin Squad Member

Wow, Unity 5 looks pretty nice! I wonder if that's something we could throw into the crowdforging basket later in the development cycle (perhaps later in EE)...

Goblin Squad Member

Shroud of the Avatar is also using Unity 4 right now, I do not think they have planned on using Unity 5 as of yet. However, they did release a 64-bit client of their alpha with the latest alpha weekend (R7) so that seems to be possible with the Unity 4 software?

I did read some enthusiastic reports about the improvements in Unity 5 though.

Wouldn't it become harder and harder to change to Unity 5 later on, or does such a migration not really become more difficult even when production is much farther along?
