When does a character turned to stone by a medusa "die"? Is it when the statue is shattered, 200 years later?

Having mulled this over last evening, I'm liking it quite a bit, and it solves my time-gap problem.

I suspect that whatever has caused the Mark to pop up and start doing its thing is a recent event, thus only those dying after point-in-time "X" (the start of EE) would be resurrected. Those who had died previously will have already visited the Boneyard, been judged by the Lady of Graves, and moved on to their final destination.

However, what if a lingering soul - say a ghost or a spirit bound to the beginning area of the game map - was present at this time? Then like the spirits of the newly dead, could it be resurrected as well?

I've wondered if the twice marked are people who lived in earlier times, died and were reincarnated in an earlier Pharasma event, lived through that and then were saved/kept by Pharasma to reincarnate and seed her next experiment. That wanders towards guessing the motives of gods, which I try to avoid.

Guurzak: A character turned to stone isn't "dead" until the statue is shattered since they can be returned to "life" by the casting of the 6th level Magus, Sorcerer, Witch, Wizard spell "Stone to Flesh."

Another thought about the Twice-marked is that if the Mark of Pharasma was created by one of the gods what if the Twice-marked of Pharasma are those who have been marked by not only that other god but also by Pharasma? For whatever purpose the gods have for marking us.

And for those looking for a little something different in their role-play, there's no reason the mark needs to be a blessing. For some, eternal resurrection may be a curse, visited upon them as a punishment for their failures or transgressions. Doomed to walk the lands for eternity until they atone, denied the final rest at the side of their god.

That could even make an excellent faction group.

I am very, very happy that GW gave us this starting point to spawn our RP from. It's open ended and repeatable. Not easy to do.

"Those who die before experiencing their fate may be lucky enough to return in this life or the next, though in some cases their fate is merely to die an ignoble or early death." ~ Gods and Magic

"Pharasma manifests her favor through the use of scarab beetles and whippoorwills, both of which function as psychopomps and serve to guide recently departed spirits to the Boneyard. Black roses are thought to bring good luck, especially if the rose’s stem sports no thorns." ~ Gods and Magic

"Her displeasure is often signified by cold chills down the spine, bleeding from under the fingernails, an unexplained taste of rich soil, the discovery of a dead whippoorwill, or the feeling that something important has been forgotten." ~ Gods and Magic

Neutral Goddess of Fate, Death, Prophecy and Birth

Her 3 depictions are the Midwife, Mad Prophet, or the Reaper

...or Casca, the eternal mercenary (Barry Sadler, who also wrote the song Ballad of the Green Beret). In that series of books Casca was the Roman legionnaire who pierced the side of the crucified Christ with a spear and in consequence was condemned to live until the second coming when he would be judged. The series spans a couple dozen books. Maybe twenty years ago I didn't tire of the series until maybe volume twenty, but then I read them one after another without break. I imagine my fatigue would have been less had I interspersed other titles.
