So I was doing some reading and found that the wording for barbarian rage is listed as "At each level after 1st, she can rage for 2 additional rounds." It doesn't say 'at each barbarian level after..."
So does that mean a level 2 character who has a 10 CON, and took barbarian at 1st level has a total of 6 rounds of rage per day or 4 rounds of rage per day?

I would assume no. Otherwise, characters that say get smite evil from paladin and then move to another class would get more uses of smite evil (though the damage is still tied to actual paladin levels).
"At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level." - From PRD for Smite Evil.
Also true with fighter and bonus feats (armor training, and weapon training, and bravery).
Or for a better analogy, a multi-class bard would then get extra uses of bardic performance since it has the exact same text as the barbarian for "At each level after..." (just referring to bard).
Lots of classes actually have a at "each level" or "every x levels" text that doesn't specify the class.
Just my thoughts though. But yeah, to sum up: Unless his second level is in barbarian (or anything else that furthers rounds of rage) then he will only have 4 rounds to use.

Well, another that doesn't specify would be something like trapfinding.
"Trapfinding: A rogue adds 1/2 her level to Perception skill checks made to locate traps and to Disable Device skill checks (minimum +1). A rogue can use Disable Device to disarm magic traps." It doesn't say rogue levels, just that a rogue adds half her level.
My point is that many classes have something where it leaves off "class levels" in the text. Something that is associated at every level is not going to show up on a chart just to save room. Yes, some of the abilities I stated do show on their class charts, but I see the chart as a reference and the text as the official workings.
