How many posts does it take to get 1 new member ?

I like analysis and numbers

Just looking at the first page of threads - the first 100 threads of some 2805 threads I noticed

41 of these threads I would classify as recruitment thread

These 41 threads had 4278 posts

There are maybe 1000 people signed up for the landrush. But how many of these have been recruited via postings here? And I haven't even looked at the 2705 other threads. Some guilds are recruiting since the beginning of this board.

It is interesting with what enthusiasm we all post here to recruit new members.

I know I'm guilty myself ...

Knowing it is wasteful doesn't change the fact that occasionally it works ...

Or is the main benefit that you don't recruit new people but rather take on other guilds which have given up?

"At least once more, Miss Swann, as always."

The "1 new member" would only come from the following pools of people:

- Influx of sleepers (away from forums until recently), albeit I anticipate this rate to slow until much closer to EE.

- Small Land Rush "guilds" that realize, week after week, that they stand little or no chance at holding their own settlement (and subsequently give up and join a larger settlement). I suspect this number to increase rapidly in the final week or two of the land rush.

- Individuals or companies that are waiting for "that perfect place" to settle. Probably few and far between, but more power to them - they should hold out until the end, or until they truly find themselves a proper home.

---

Noteworthy that some settlements have been changing themes, requirements, alignments, and other details that might "suddenly" attract the types of people I mentioned above.

A final note: yes, the forum has become rather "spammy" with all the recruiting/advertising, but honestly there's not a whole lot else going on right now. When Alpha starts, I'm sure there will be some more variety of threads.

A sub-forum for CC or settlement recruitment would really be great.

Currently there is no ability to recruit in-game (because there is no game) and that makes forum recruitment a very big deal. Once the game is live you will likely see most groups only spend minimal effort on forum recruitment.

Freevale wouldn't have federated without the use of these forums. The more discussion that occurs, the more stragglers might get an idea if it is the home for them or not. Given how many people are neck and neck, one new member is all it takes. Wasteful isn't a concern at that point.

Subforums would be great. Being able to browse from mobile would be awesome. Being able to reach people on the GW site would be equally keen. Until we have those things, we work with what we have.

I know we want new people and old alike. Companies or free agents. I think the main benefit is achieving that goal - at least 1 more member.

Reading Between the Lines is another success story from the Paizo board. We wouldn't have placed if it weren't for the folks here.

The small autonomous Guilds need to get the word out! There are places for them in the River Kingdoms :)

Keepers of the Circle grew from a small group of friends to where we are now thanks largely to this messageboard. Many of us joined based on seeing Hrod's post here on the boards.

I've found the forums to be most helpful in finding a home. Not from recruitment posts directly, but from figuring out whose worldview and playstyle I'm most likely to share. I looked at authors whose posts I've favorited, other people who favorited the same posts I did, and people who favorited my posts. That led me to the Roseblood Alliance, and from there it was much easier to figure out which group in that subset was the right fit for me.

Recruitment posts are a good start - but new recruits and advertising settlements should dig a little deeper to make sure they'll both be happy!

Depends on if your offering something different and the population of the forums. It seems like Evil guilds are having a hard time outside of Golgatha, but some of the more neutral inclined seem to be booming from time to time.

The forums and the forum lurkers are also such a small part of the community overall that it's only the smallest portion that will come from here in the long run.

^ That's where it's at.

I'd have to say for every 100 posts you make you have the same odds of recruitment that some investigation & a single PM. That being said, finding new recruits here seems like it will end up transforming in the latter weeks of the LR.

The most useful information I found regarding PFO by far has been from the developer team contributing on a consistent basis, this applies for all of Paizo, and I think Lisa really knows how to run a brand well.

As for getting new players consistently, I think that will come with OE, as well as a surge once the official Goblinworks.com/forum is up and running.

For MA, it has been hard to get new recruits, seems like nobody is interested in joining with us :)

Scarab Sages

Well, some of us are only doing our part in turn public our purpose of our companies. How could you become a Lion Council member and be one of the most happier players out there if we do not post a advertise post?

It is difficult. You guys seem like a great pick and concept. Ozem's Vigil is growing slowly too. We are a bit of an extreme alignment, though.

I think one of the main reasons people might be shying away from MA is the fact that we are stating we are PvP orientated, and it is fair to say that 90% of those playing will be interested in PvE, and if they are interested in PvP they will look towards the bigger companies already formed due to the mentality of protection.

I might be wrong ofcourse.

Due to the fact we do require a crafting guild / support DEYS is looking for a company that is focusing on that aspect and hopefully we can snatch someone and take it. I might actually have to scour down the guild lists and see if we can work together.

I think you are right about the huge increase once we get to the end of the land rush. Some folks still haven't figured out, from their websites, that they are not reserving their guild/company name here when they join the land rush, that they are supposed to be trying for a very limited number of settlement spots. But some are learning the fact fast and are paying attention and talking to their friends and family and deciding who they want to contact. :-)

Though I will point out, we have gotten two new members to join us since my last update yesterday on our guild recruitment forum.
