If you could have a 1st level spell in real life of any spell list that you could use 3 times/day, what spell would it be?

Mine, Mount. Imagine going to work/college on a summonable horse

I'd take charm person, but I'm pretty charming to begin with...

This looks familiar.

Endure Elements, no contest.

Shadow Lodge

Charm Person, Ant Haul, Command, or if I could choose a Cantrip, Prestidigitation. Even only 3/day, Prestidigitation would be seriously useful IRL.

Silent Image. Unbelievably useful.

Vanish, Unseen Servant, Decompose Corpse, Crafter's Fortune, or Feather Fall.

Crafter's fortune.

At what caster level?

Well, you can include spells from Druids, Paladin, Cleric, Alchemist etc.

YOUR caster level of course (or what you consider caster level)

And since everyone here is at least a 1st-commoner or aristocrat as NPC...

Cure light wounds.

At least a 10th level commoner...with a house cat familiar!

Mending. It would save a lot of money.

That's a cantrip.

Comprehend Languages.

If I could take two cantrips instead, prestidigitation and Light.

If it has to be a first... probably Mount.

Keep Watch would be pretty choice I'd think. Never need to sleep again. Imagine what you could do with those 8 hours! Imagine all the forum post you could make. You could have a post count. In. The. Thousands!

*raised eyebrow* Is that all?

Then it would be between comprehend languages, endure elements, or expeditious retreat.

?
I already have 11,000+...
And I'm still awful at this game...

I hit 5 digits in may... my soul wept. I'd say its a viable goal for mortals though.

Unfortunately, my post count has yet to reach the legendary 'over nine-thousand' status.

I'm way too tired, thought you called mending a catnip.

As for me, Diagnose disease. Be a pro doctor instantly!

We get familiars? We get cats?

Pfft, trick question! Cats don't give +4 initiative, so they aren't real familiar choices.

The other explanation is that some commoners are more awesome than others.

Me? With my people skills? I'd say the wrong thing and start World War 3. Probably accidentally start World War 4 while trying to apologize for World War 3.

Cure light wounds is the only viable answer.

Another "Cure light wounds".
Granted, it isn't as awesome as later healing abilities.

In short, healing non-life threatening injury, OK. Not the cure for cancer, though. Still helps cut your medical bills and makes you very useful in hospitals.

Cure Light Wounds actually CAN heal a life-threatening injury (emphasis on injury, cancer is a disease). That's what it means to have less than 0 HP, either you stabilize or you die.

That being said, CLW once per day just doesn't have the shine to it that some of my other options do.

Like Decompose Corpse.

Funny thing about comprehend languages. You can't actually speak them, just understand them. :)

Comprehend Languages is your choice if you live in SoCal but don't speak Spanish. That way you can actually understand what everyone is saying thinking you don't understand them.

(Warning: it's probably not going to be pleasant.)

Sow Thought

Sleep.

I have a boss at one of my jobs who I just can't stand. It would be nice to send him home once-in-a-while. He drinks too many Redbulls anyway. Needs more sleep.

TriOmegaZero wrote:

Yes, I know. I'm just that incompetent at managing my mouth.

Silent Image. Make those dungeon crawls come to life by animating the battles, changing the background to match the setting, and all sorts of fun stuff! Never run into the issue of not having the right mini! Make a board that automatically updates itself and keeps track of information, post up AoE buffs so people don't forget! The possibilities are endless!

Can you maintain concentration on a Silent Image while DMing?

oh, that's a standard action, I still have my move action!

Drats... that might be a legit issue... maybe a trick to be saves to the boss fight for a cinematic death...

Silver Crusade

Cure Light Wounds.

I could then claim to be the second coming from the Lord Almighty and basically rule the planet.

The End.

Either crafters fortune or unseen servant.

Not good enough really. One way translators don't really meet their needs. And your duration is too short.

Scarab Sages

Cure Light Wounds[/] or [i]Crafter's Fortune

Either work in the emergency room or start selling high end, handmade furniture.

I'm pretty sure that the Anti-Doping Agencies have been using Detect Magic screenings for years.

comprehend languages. I work in an international airport. this would be handy.

Silent Image. I'm an artist, so it would be amazing to conjure a reference from my own mind.

Second choice is vanish and cure light wounds. Summon monster i would be cool. Yeah, it only lasts a few seconds, but how popular would you be if you could summon a celestial kitten whenever you want?

I'm not sure which one to take. There are several that would be strong.
-Goodberry: It can heal, it feeds people.
-Keep watch: More free time
-lock gaze: Not really strong enough but worth mentioning: The cute chick can't take her eyes off you while the spell lasts. And if you want someone to notice you without yelling.
-Hideous laughter: If someone wants you bad or pisses you off, just hit them with this. Like a car driver who doesn't behave. Don't do it if he can hit you when his car gets out of control.

But the one I'd most likely take:
Unseen servant: it cleans up, does the dishes, mends your clothing. Not as much free time as with keep watch but sleeping is fun, cleaning up and other household chores: not so much.
And it can use all untrained skills up to DC 10. That means it can make music (not good one) can craft stuff (again only DC 10 but hey). All in all one of the most versatile spells.
Might even be able to aid another for skills.

Like Decompose Corpse.

OP said 3x per day....makes CLW into something nice to have. Basically most of the world is low level commoners with single digit HPs, so three times per day you cure at minimum 1d8+1 if you are commoner1. So three life saving spells per day. I also see this being useful in other ways...imagine a doctor cutting open a knee filled with arthritis, cutting it all out then using a cure spell to heal it so it doesn't develop more arthritis. My knees/shoulder/back would never ache again and any further injuries would be cured ensuring that my own health would remain perfect, minus any diseases contracted (although some things could also fall into the "cut and cure" way of healing).

Goodberry heals about as much but can be used to feed several people instead. Only drawback: You can't heal unconscious persons because they have to be eaten. But following RAW smelling salt should take care of that.

Anyone with kids would probably agree with me that Sleep would be a godsend to have on many days.

A first level Pathfinder Character (which is not a Barbarian and does not have the Run feat) under Expeditious Retreat runs 27.27 miles per hour, which is right in the neighborhood of the fastest recorded Human Footspeed (and they did it without magic)

Depending on the length of the course and quality of your opponents you may have some competition.
