List of Spells with NO Spell Resistance

Advice

I'm looking at creating a character in a upcoming campaign with lots of high SR monsters (outsiders, demons, dragons, and such) and also magic immune critters (mithril golems and others). I know that spell penetration, greater spell penetration, and piercing spell can help with high SR creatures, while know arcana checks should let me figure out what specific spells with work on golems, for example. But I would like to know if there are more spells like acid arrow and create pit that are effective with worrying about spell resistance. Is anybody working on a list that shows whats spells by class or level don't allow spell resistance?? The spells database wasn't very useful when I tried it.

Conjuration /thread (With the exception of summoning I believe)

Basically, if its conjuration and the spell actually leaves your body it will most likely be no SR.

Create Pit spells are the go-to spells against golems.

Most of the Acid spells in Conjuration are No SR direct damage.

Black Tentacles are still useful against NPC casters (i.e. Medium Sized Humanoids who won't have a sky-high CMD)

Ice Spears and Stone Call cause damage and terrain obstacles. Good low level spells to attach Dazing Spell to.

Grand Lodge

I like Acid Arrow. Great low level spell to add Dazing to.

But Thomas Long is right...A LOT of Wizard Conjuration Spells do not have spell resistance. Typically because they shape the area around the person.

deafening song bolt (bard level 5) : No ST, No SR !!!!!!

I was hoping there would be some good direct damage spells, similar to the orb spells from 3.5. So far the only acid conjuration spells that fit are acid splash and acid arrow. Ok, but I was hoping for more than 2d4 damage over a couple of rounds. Other acid conjuration spells (corrosive touch, acidic spray) have spell resistance. I'm considering creating a magus with some melee touch direct damages I can cast through my weapon with spellstrike that don't allow spell resistance. So far I haven't found any, just things like acid arrow I can cast off hand with spell combat. Have I missed anything?? Thanks for the idea about pit spells for golems, just not on the magus spell list that I saw.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Snowball 1st Level.

Exactly the same as shocking grasp except:

No +3 against opponents in armor
Ranged Touch attack
Fort save or staggered (no effect on damage)
No SR.

Snowball

Edit: Remember you can get wizard spells on magus by using one of your arcana.

important to note (since this thread is the thing that comes up when i search)

snowball was erattaed after this was posted. it allows SR now

Some of the more advanced pit spells have damage over time on them that's good enough when the target can't possibly escape them.

Silver Crusade

Here's a spell & combo that offer No Spell Resistance. Even a little Energy Resistance [COLD] totally shuts it down, so watch out for that.

The spell & combo is 2nd level Winter's Grasp with Rime Spell. The spell description specifically calls the effect out as immune to SR. Top this combo off with Stone Call, which also avoids SR and creates non-magic Difficult Terrain. The combo of Rimed Winter's Grasp and Stone Tell, both 2nd level spells, limits pretty much all ground-bound creatures to maximum 5' movement per turn. No saving throw, no SR.

Technically they published a new spell with the same name rather than actually making an errata. Unless someone has come out with an official statement I missed.

Changing the school of the spell itself from Conjuration (Creation) to Evocation instead of just removing the SR: No clause certainly goes further than most kinds of errata, too. (Or maybe a level 1 Wizard being able to fill their own ice box over the course of a week or sell snowcones flavored with Prestidigitation really was just too OP.)

Although, admittedly, it does seem like half of the design team's collective brain absolutely hates/hated Conjuration (Creation) and its potential to permanently create matter and the other half loved it.
