How does a caster get spells not on his list, on his list?

Advice

I read a guide for the Alchemist, and it mentioned getting a ranger spell as a formulae known. How do you do this? Even if you multi-classed with Ranger, it still couldn't be a formulae, it would be a Ranger spell.

The general rule, is you cant. There are some speciic exceptions connected to some favoured class choices. But as a normal rule you cant do it.

Do you happen to remember what favored class bonus out of curiosity?

That aside, the race Samsaran can let you cherry pick spells from another spell list as long as they are both arcane or divine... so no Alchemist/Ranger mixing there. Also what Ranger spell was it? Maybe it is one that's on both lists and there was a misunderstanding?

Well, i should clarify. i dont know of any favored class thing for /alchemist/ that does this. i think Undine or sylph have ones that let you do that for wizard to get spells of the apropriate element. but im going by memory here. It was one of the favored class options for one of the races in the arg.
