Land Rush ideas

I've been thinking about the land rush and how we could make things easier for the thousands of people who could theoretically re-engage with the game at this point.

The land rush is primarily about founding settlements rather than companies. Thus, I'd suggest that a good land rush 'guild' description would focus on the rules, development focus, and administration of the proposed settlement. Obviously any Company associated with the settlement would be a factor in that, especially if Company membership is required for residence.

Since descriptions can't be changed without intervention by the goblins it would probably also be a good idea to keep any information subject to revision (e.g. settlement location order list) out of the descriptions... possibly by linking the settlement description to a 'guild' or Company thread here or another web page set up for the purpose.

If some 'guilds' choose to publish their settlement priority list a standard format might also be helpful. I'd suggest just a string of settlement location characters with most represented by uppercase letters and the AA thru AD series given as the second letter in lowercase. For example, 'QaPcJA' would give first priority to Q, then AA, then P, then AC, then J, then A.

Counter thoughts and suggestions welcome.

I think this will make a bit more sense after the first results have been posted.

I believe it will be difficult for people to let go of the initial "we want to go here, but do not want anyone else to take it because we said we wanted to".

You are more than likely right about us needing Guild specific threads, because it is going to be (at least temporarily) about more than just the settlement itself.

It seems that Ryan does not want us using the settlement as the focus point since it is supposed to be about the group of people throwing support behind the settlement.

That said, it is probably good to establish what people might be able to expect.

A quick example might be something like:

---

"[Settlement] Alliance"
Link to Settlement thread
One step within [Alignment]

Settlement Focus: Crafting, combat, healing, etc..
Crafting Priorities: Swords, armor, enchanting
Class Priorities: 1-2 initial classes
Administration: Who makes votes, how many will be voting
Membership: Need approval to join? Reputation restrictions?
Settlement Tax: X% if any
Settlement Requirements: Help settlement be successful, do not kill leadership, pull the pin and then throw

Guild description:

Companies that want to win a whole bunch and do awesome stuff should join us. We will save you from all of the monsters, except spiders, because NOPE. We will eventually have training for the anti-druids when they are released and intend to burn every other settlement that never existed to the ground and take all of their salt.

---

For a common format, would people say this is enough info? Too much? Too little? Specifically are there things that should be added, or is there a different format we should follow?

Imo what is needed or useful is:

1. Land Rush Map = updated per week with the batch of results
2. Guild (out of game) List = Full summary per Guild listed with their description, much like what is in the Nihimonicon and a guild leader able to modify the list and description for ease of search and updating in sync with developments as the 1. Map shows each week.

Imho I'd prioritize listing:

1. Guild (history focus, aims, members) detail
2. Settlement location currently aimed at.
3. Relevant membership info (Offered-Wanted): Timezone, focus of organization, alliances already made and planned to secure Treaties and prosperity etc
4. Update section what the settlement is doing has achieved in recruitment etc and plans on the coming week's "game of thrones".

I guess the devs assume Guilds will provide all this in their own space, but a summary list somewhere with notice-board functionality (and guild webpage/membership links) might be godo for players to scroll over in one place?

It has been pointed out to me by a few people now that we are lacking any even halfway decent way of providing up to date information about things like guilds and companies to people in need of information. Particularly in one place.

Also, I wonder about the time zone? It makes sense for a company, but it would be rather ideal to have around the clock coverage for a settlement.

I think TZ would be a good pitch for a Guild to want to recruit a CC from a particular TZ for their settlement, amongst other POI offers?

Perhaps GW can give a sort of diagram of a settlement's needs in basic form and numbers associated and hence Guilds could use that as a basis for what they "need" or need to fill up for? Maybe that is relative also to security detail required according to neighbouring Guilds?

Some sort of universal offered-wanted notice-boards would be handy connected to a guild summary list in one place that could be updated (eg head count change etc).

I expect they'd rather let each organization define their own needs based on their own goals and their own evaluations of the best means of accomplishing those goals.

It would certainly be useful, though, to have some data on the throughput potentials of the various production chains.

Keep in mind that settlements can be protected by NPCs. Each settlement can set a PvP window during which it is vulnerable. Setting a larger window provides higher development indexes, but obviously requires more coordination for PCs to provide continual protection.

That said, settlement combat won't be implemented for some time and thus this will really be a question for later (when the balance of settlement occupants in given TZs may have changed). For the land rush, statements of overall administrative philosophy may be more useful. For example, 'settlement PVP window will expand as the settlement population does and be focused on times when the highest number of settlement members are online'.

Goblin Squad Member

For that PvP window; does that apply to just Settlements or POIs associated with settlements also?

Goblin Squad Member

POIs have "vulnerability windows", but I don't think they're necessarily synced up with the Sponsoring Settlement.

Actually, the blog I linked says, "Any Points of Interest controlled by a settlement must have the same PvP window as the controlling settlement."

Ok, so I thought this subject is important.

I think a central summary of Guilds involved in the Land Rush would be handy with their summary info about what they're about.

Here's the list of the Land Rush Guilds: Registered Land Rush Guilds

Unfortunately it's not easy to access each guilds info. And reconciling to Nihimon's very useful list Guild Recruitment is not easy either given numbers disparity.

It would be useful to have the full list somewhere along with salient info imho for the Land Rush.

I've summarized the info that Nihimon has provided into a data dump for spreadsheet(use function "TEXT TO COLUMNS" by "|") to separate out the categories.

I've chosen name and first contact user on these forums. Alignment just gives flavor atm imo but that is a useful indicator and website where supplied is very useful. Interest is a one word summary again to help choose. It's much easier to see than a length description.

What I found from making the list would appear to be good guesses for a guild's "clout":

1. Members Count
2. Website
3. Alliances/Affiliations to other groups listed (if available)
4. Specific interest

I'd say those could be useful indicators to a guild's potential organization and "clout" is maybe worth observing. At least that was my take-home from summarizing the below if I was a new player looking for a guild.

Looking at Keovar's list of unaffiliated 62

A central place to match these to those (below) for example would be useful for both sides (guilds and unaffiliated players).

It's crude but might be useful (illustrative of a better summary of the authenticated Land Rush guilds):-
