Should it be done?
I'm about to run an E6 pathfinder game (where we only go up to 6th level), and I'm considering making it low wealth/magic.
Our party is doing 3d6 rolling for stats, to make it even more low-powered.
How closely should I follow the wealth by level guidelines in the Core? Will it make them too underpowered if I were to adjust it down?
I'm thinking that they may be to high for this campaign.
Our party consists of a bard, wizard, a druid duo, a barbarian, and a monk who rolled really well.
I'm just delving into WBL due to some issues in my own campaign. One thing I'd be concerned with is that some items seem to be overpriced in comparison to their utility in WBL. You might consider sticking to WBL as a guideline, but overlooking or only partially counting certain items that are interesting but not game-changing.
Just be aware of who is stronger and who is weaker with a low wealth E6 game. In general equipment focused characters like fighters get hurt the most, because they run on the assumption that defenses can be raised with money. Inherently powerful characters like Paladins and Summoners just don't care about money and will gain relatively from others having less. I don't see any power builds for E6 listed so it shouldn't really matter. Maybe the Monk by virtue of being higher point buy (equivalent, random rolls usually have this effect) could outshine the others, but it probably won't matter because Monks don't use area attacks and they are supposed to be good against boss fights.

I think I'll throw in magic weapons and armor more than magic-focused wondrous items.
And plenty of unusual flavor magic items. Eheee.
