Roughly how many is following this game and it's progress? Does anyone know?

Too difficult to say. There is probably a very large amount that lurk. But there was 8,732 backers for the 2nd Kickstarter. So possibly somewhere around there. Some more active than others.

That is not the correct number of backers. At GenCon last year Lisa said about 4500 from the second kickstarter which Ryan confirmed.

You have to figure some people bought twice.

Either way, you can double the 4500 count to get a better guess. I have several friends that are interested but have been burned too many times by supporting a game before it went live. SWTOR, STO, and NWO anyone...

Exactly this. But I have a few companies I trust completely based on past experiences. Paizo and Lisa Stevens and the gang being among them. By extension I have faith that GW will deliver the best possible experience and constantly work at making it better. I hope that the theme of Pathfinder remains true. If I can get that from PO, everything else is icing on the cake for me.

I think we might have a few more starting to come around, but $100 is a tall order for a buy in right now for them.

It is, but if the players are having fun and there is freedom, then it will make the calculation of whatever amount it is 3 or so game months xp much easier to access.

And what would you consider a good number for the amount of individuals in the starting community during EE?

Well I can't back this up with more than memory(YMMV), but I believe that they were looking at 4000 - 4500 players for day one of EE. Someone will fix me if I am wrong... :P

If you go by the Kickstarter there will be ~6300 players on day 1 of EE (counting buddy pledges as 2 and guild pledges as 6).

Then some unknown extra number in month 2 of EE (people who backed on this site).

Then another 2900+ Kickstarters during Head Start. This number is a lower bound as I don't know a good estimate for the number of Kickstarters who bought a $35 add-on.

Then an unknown number for OE (people backing on this site).

Reduce these numbers marginally for people who have multiple accounts.

According to the FAQ at goblinworks.com they are counting on having 20k slots filled after third month of EE. I don't know if some more PR is needed or if word of mouth will suffice in order to accomplish that.

Still plenty of time to spread the word, especially once there's actually something substantial to show (i.e., the ability to play the game). Need to be careful about overhyping yourself too quickly and having people who judge a game on first impressions deciding PfO looks crap because it's still being developed. If you need proof of this last bit look at the comments for the vids that were put on youtube.

You have to understand not everyone is following PFO, But allot of peeps are waiting for it! Well, just go in to any MMO and ask who's waiting for PFO and every third person has an opinion..

there is also a bit more interest with the fall of WOD.
