I have a question for the developers, and I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed as I was not able to find anything on the subject.

Per the PRD, a vow of silence gives a player one extra Ki point per six monk levels. However, the Ultimate Magic .pdf (Second printing; January, 2012) I just purchased and downloaded last weekend indicates the same vow gives a player one extra Ki point for every monk level. I could not find any errata or FAQ which states anything to the contrary.

So, my burning question is which is correct? I am playing The Moonscar this weekend with my PFS 16th level monk and need a ruling as the difference in Ki points would be huge - 16 additional Ki points vs. 2 additional Ki points. Please help!

OK, so I just found the answer to my own question. I had a chance to finally look at a hard copy second printing of UM and sure enough it matches the .pdf exactly. For whatever reasons, the developers decided the vow of silence was enough of a sacrifice to reward it the same as the vow of poverty. Hello, 17 extra Ki points.

Just be sure to grab a high bluff bonus. That is the skill for 'secret messages'...so it is also the skill for pantomiming.

Holy smokes.

I double checked my PDF and it says the same thing (1 ki point per level).

Paizo Resource Document: " A monk with this vow increases his ki pool by 1 ki point for every 6 monk levels (minimum +1)."

Ultimate PDF (pg 50): "A monk with this vow increases his ki pool by 1 ki point for every monk level he possesses." I don't own the physical book, so I defer to Lem on that one.

However HeroLab, d20PFSRD and Archives of Nethys all hew to the PRD "1 ki per 6 levels" version.

Was there a buff that was not communicated from the 1st printing to the 2nd printing?

FAQing. Major ki point swing for any monks with Vow of Silence.

I doubt it's supposed to be one point every level.

Anyone have any further information on the topic?

I was planning on using the Pathfinder Society sign language since Seekers of Secrets indicates it is universally known by Society members and can be used for combat/tactical situations. Outside of those scenarios, I will be using a writing board/chalk.

And thus the reason for my confusion. I posted for James Jacobs and his response was it was my GM's decision (here). My GM agreed to the one-per-one as indicated in the .pdf and second printing of the hardcover. I just wish Jason would clarify this and give us a definite answer.

Developers? Any clarification or response? Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't the official ruling be the same as the most recent/up to date version of the source material?

I thought I read somewhere that was how it worked, but of course I cannot find that now...
