Liberty's Edge

Gotcha. Oh, hey, MoB!

Long time no talk.

Here is my wizard submittal. I hope to add to the back story before it is evaluated but wanted to get the character submitted.

Since you said Agrona was a go I'll add some more information...

Clan Rivertusk:

Many Orc clans exist within or around the Stolen Lands, they typically lair in the deeper and more forbidding reaches of the land. Clan Rivertusk in terms of Orc clans is moderately powerful one, while not as strong as say the Skullreaver or the Beastriders they are quite clearly above the Bloodrunners and Pale Orcs... Clan Rivertusk as it's name implies is a clan that has always been near a river, to be precise the massive river known as Orc Fjord named after it's closest residents. This river extends both to the east and the west for well over twenty miles in each direction and it is along this route that Clan Rivertusk travels, leading a semi nomadic existence as they have always...

The clan has roughly 250 members, this is higher then the Bloodrunenrs by 100 and higher then the Pale Orcs by 120. Yet clan Rivertusk is outnumbered by 50 from the Beastriders and well over a 100 from the Skullreavers. As such the clan for the majority of it's existence has had to be more cunning then it neighbors to survive from rivals both beneath and above them in power. This is reflected in the warriors that the clan deploys into battle, while just as well muscled as other of their kind clan Rivertusk Orcs tend to be a fair bit more agile. In addition they tend to be stealthier as well, compounding this is the fact that Rivertusk Orcs are capable of pulling immense composite longbows...

This has led to a style of warfare which is characterized by stealth, cunning and hit and run attacks. While they favor engaging foes at range the Orcs of clan Rivertusk are perfectly capable of engaging in melee, they tend to favor heavy oaken shields and stone axes (metal weapons, shields and armor are rare in Orc society) which in their hands can be fairly lethal.

Religion:

All Orc clans have a patron "spirit" and clan Rivertusk is no exception, the patron spirit of clan Rivertusk is "Kaal-Orc" literally in common Trickster Orc. Like all spirits of the clans "Kaal-Orc" was originally a orc who ascended to spirithood by his own actions which included founding clan Rivertusk and acting as a spirit as the patron of the clan shamans (he would be Agrona's patron). The "Kaal-Orc" teaches his followers to embrace the ways of feral cunning and war, like all the spirits he is a warlike spirit yet different. Where as the spirits of the other clans urge head on attack the "Kaal-Orc" teaches the use of stealth and ambush... His domains (if for some reasons you wanted to make a cleric of him later on) are Chaos, War, Trickery and Water.

Agrona's appearance:

Agrona appears to most as a figure wrapped in the finest (by orc standards) hides and furs, upon her face a grotesque mask sees all. The mask itself is mostly a water like blue color but red stripes flow from below and above the eyeholes and the area around the "mouth" looks like it was painted with blood (and it painted with blood along with the stripes, the blood to be precise is Agrona's). While the robes and furs cover most of her body strategically placed holes and so forth showcase the scars that Agrona wears upon her form as a mark of pride...

Tribal fund:

Agron's remaining character wealth is not represented in gold but in equipment (aka this is the fund for outfitting the Rivertusk clan). How would you like to go about the outfitting if Agrona is selected...

Differences:

To say that clan Rivertusk is different from most orc clans is an understatement, first as far as alignment goes most Rivertusk orcs are CN. While they like battle as much as any other orc they aren't quite as evil as most of the race is known to be, this is due to three factors. First Agrona's influence (which is backed up by a hearty helping of lethal force), second the number of half orcs (40 out of the 250 members of clan Rivertusk are half orcs a sharp contrast to other orc clans) within the clan and three the fact that except for Murduut the majority of clan Rivertusk's leaders are the more intelligent half orcs.

In addition to this clan Rivertusk is exceptionally more accommodating to female orcs, the reason being once again Agrona's influence. The reason that this attitude happens to stick is also because of a fact that has only begun to dawn on many of the orcs of the clan... Women as equals means more fighters, more fighters equals more power, plunder and booty. Another difference is that the orcs don't tend to kill "civilized' (the core races excepting half orcs for obvious reasons) "visitors" on sight unless said "civilized" visitors happen to be invaders. Rather such beings are "encouraged" to accompany the orcs to meet Agrona, the Matron Mother. As more then a few orcs have learned (often painfully) Agrona has an intense curiosity with the "civilized' world and can be rather angry when chances to further her curiosity happen to die...

Got it. I'm not sure about two dump stats. I hope there is some backstory to explain them. If not, I'd prefer one stat dumped.

I'm gonna have to pull out. I got most of the Crunch, got a really cool background idea, and have drawn a complete blank on the personality. Can't make this character gel at all :(

A question of note gm, how well would Agrona fit in with your current group (I have seen their characters and saw the paladin and cleric so I ditched giving Agrona undead raising spells etc...)?

That's something I will take into account when making my selection.

Liberty's Edge

Starfinder Superscriber

Yeah, I'm sort of hoping that Nomusa, with her all "be good and help people" attitude and background, will fit in with the preexisting paladin and cleric. We shall see! There's a lot of good submissions, so I'm not holding my breath, but I am holding out hope.

Gavmania wrote:

Sorry to hear. I often find myself in the same situation. You still have a few days left though.

I've suffered similar attrition as Gavmania... an idea that had the capacity to germinate... but due to deficient care on my behalf has failed to bloom.

Good luck all and may the best/worst/most/least powerful/interesting/thoughtful win!

Sorry to hear Mark.

Please note that the deadline is extended until Friday, same time as the first posting.

I can change that. Its funny how people look at such things. Since I has "spent" 2 points in each of the stats you were calling dump stats. I did not consider them dumps at all. But I do see that most other applicants have few stats below 10. As I said I wanted to spend more time developing the character anyway so I'll choose which stat will be below 10 and incorporate that into his story. :) Thanks for the extension. It will help me since I ended up traveling all weekend.

I'm very tempted to submit a character for this game as I've enjoyed your games a lot, DW. On the other hand, I'm already GMing Kingmaker (just starting the 4th book) and I'm playing in another Kingmaker PBP. I may be a little Kingmaker'd out. :) I'll make a decision shortly but here are my tentative thoughts if I decide to make a submission:

I have a mechanical build for an admixture evocationist that I'm interested in trying, but am drawing a blank on a background for him. On the other hand, I've got a Sylvan gnome sorcerer concept that seems to gel nicely with the Kingmaker story to date and that seems fun. I'll keep working with it and I'll see what I can put together. :)

The wizard is updated. I would like to add more to his background but do not know enough about the campaign setting to write something that would fit.

A few people have mentioned some blanking with backgrounds and personality. Here are a few random spoilered thoughts on what has happened thus far.

Spoiler:
The group is currently in the area between their duchy (Frieland), The River Kingdoms (Pitax really), and Numeria, in a marshy area claimed by Baron Drelev.

The dear Baron has recently given them a good reason to come knocking, and they traveled deadly marshes with ease and have battled fierce Boggards to enter incognito in the town surrounding Fort Drelev.

They are currently hidden by the owner of the town's brothel and looking for a quiet way to get in the fort.

I hope this helps stir a few ideas. I suggest that you have a look at the characters, present and past as well.

I'd be interested in this game

I do have a question though: How do you feel about the Magaambyan Arcanist PrC?

Orc Ambitions:

Like the intrepid pcs Agrona has also come knocking to the baron's door, her reasons though are different. Baron Drelev and his dominion happen to be sitting on a very valuable material, iron. This material is vital to Agrona's plans, with iron and a few smiths she can make her tribe the most powerful in the region. To do this however the current Baron must be removed, to say that this will not be a peaceful removal would be an understatement. Agrona has gathered her forces three miles from Fort Drelev, deep within the swamps. While her scouts chart out the terrain and trusted half orc spies examine the town Agrona makes ready in the swamp... From her cauldron erupt gourds of fire, tar that makes a stick light like a bonfire, glue that immobilizes all it touches and stones that strike with the sound of thunder... Agrona's main target is the Fort itself, her plans for the town proper are to keep it relatively intact... After all she needs the place (more specifically it's smiths and smithies) to ensure that her plans come into motion...

gm do you like the hook for getting Agrona (or more accurately the pcs) involved in this?

With the slight extension I've taken my Muse into the back room and given him a bit of Jack Bauer style encouragement. Thusly bloodied but unbowed he retakes the floor...

Stylistic Vignette:
Dappled sunlight breaks through the boughs of the willow trees that line the shore of the river. Propped against the trunk of one such willow is a travelling backpack of well oiled and weathered goatskin leather with clasps of silver. Resting in the grass beside the pack is a wooden scabbard that holds a basket-hilted schiavona blade. Though the passerby would not have their eyes drawn to the river, nor the possessions neatly stacked. Instead the owner of the blade nearby would have drawn attention to him entire.

A light wind blowing through the clearing agitates his flowing outer raiment of silken cloth. The green and blue floats on the breeze, lending glimpses of a thicker formfitting vest embroidered with piña thread beneath it. The figure is lithe and long, crowned by a head with pointed ears and angular features that scream of elven heritage. Flaxen hair is pulled tight into a queue secured with black velvet ribbon. Though perhaps he could be thought of beautiful, his cheeks and chin are marred by duelling scars - the worst of which runs along his jawbone from chin to ear.

With eyes still closed and the world unseen, the elven man begins to move... dancing his way around the clearing. The dancer's movements are smooth and unfettered, starting slow but inexorably accellerating with the passage of time. His body dips, spins and sways as he blindly makes circuit in silence... clearly fuelled by a rhythm that beats within his heart. After three turns about the clearing, the timbre of the dance seamlessly transitions.

In time with a front aerial spin, his left arm gestures towards the scabbard nearby and the basket-hilted blade obeys the instruction - surging from the scabbard to his hand. The blade that extends from the hilt is broad and double edged - with two thick fullers running the full length from hilt to point. Less a dance now and more a kata of martial bent, the movements compensate for the presence of the blade and incorporate lunging thrusts, circular parries and acrobatic slashing motions. Still the elven form keeps his eyes hidden, trusting to the truth of his balance and footing.

Only after another pair of turns around the clearing do the eyes of the dancer open... as well does his mouth. Breaking from the beauty of his dance, the elf sprints towards a tree stump at the clearing's fringe. The blade is held wide to one side and as words are formed and spoken the basket-hilted enclosure begins to glow ochre with arcane force. With a final spinning movement the blade is whipped around as his body turns and splayed at the tree stump. The potential building within the basket hilt flows down the fullers of the blade and as blade meets wood is expended in a burst of flame.

Springing back on his heels and taking en garde against the inanimate stump the elf smirks as he surveys his work. The stump burns with a fire more intense than could be borne by acts mundane and blackens and splits in the moments it takes for the spells energy to be spent. With a contented shrug at the action's efficacy the elf sashays back to his scabbard and pack. The point of his blade is used to lift the scabbard before being sheathed in a smooth motion. A bend of knee and extended right arm then pulls the backpack from recumbance and sees it stowed upon his back.

Whistling the elf turns and sets sight once more upon his destination... Fort Drelev, not looking backwards as he continues onwards.

Now that the seed of thought has sprouted - I'll fill in the rest of him as per original request in post #1.

Glad to hear it helped!

Givent that providing a little more guidance on where the group is and how to possibly join them, here are other opportunities for characters, given the current situation they're facing (spoilered, so don't read unless with you want to spoil a very little part of your KM experience in other games).

Spoiler:
The brothel is held by a transvestite by the name of Satinder. He might be convinced to join the group. She also has a dwarven friend named Sanya who for now acts as her doorman. He might be more than he appears.

Brevoy has heard of the group's success. Someone from there might be curious about them, for various reasons...

The Boggards have come to a kind of peace with the group. Perhaps a prisoner is freed?

The Fort counts numerous denizens, some free to walk around, and perhaps unsure whether they've chosen the right side and willing to help a coup. Another possibility is to be a captive of Drelev, but it will take longer to get a chance to join, unless you break out and are hiding... in a brothel!

Those are just thoughts to help out. No need to meet these if you have a good concept. Just keep in mind I'm looking for someone to join the party and bring something to it.

Also, it's now official that one of ours has be taken by real life. The group is therefore down to three, which means I'll think about adding two instead of one. Keep it arcane though, but I might go for one 'almost full' caster and one 'part-caster'.

Lantern Lodge

Probably will be adjusting my build later on. I have been working on the character concept, and I think I have a better focus for him, and may have a way to adapt him to the story better. Will post up the edits this evening after I get home from the office.

As a side question: What are you using for downtime rules?

Nothing yet. We've been focusing downtime efforts towards kimgdom building, emphasizing what the players' goals are. I'd be open to suggestions.

Lantern Lodge

I have had my eye on a crafting/leadership based character for a while, and have a build in my head. arcane/divine hybrid character focused on building up the community around him. need to adjust for 10th level. modified version of the character I originally submitted.

Looking forward to see it.

Cool.

Basic idea for the character is a Half Orc Wizard from the Mwangi Expanse who has studied the flora and fauna of that place and fought both demons and serpentfolk. She has recently moved north after hearing about the nation of Sevenarches in the River Kingdoms but got rebuffed by the Oakstewards that rule the place.

The things she did see made her curious about the entire area though and she's now travelling through the River Kingdoms, studying it's flora and fauna and cataloguing it. She a worshipper of Shelyn (in addition to the spirits of her people) and a gifted artist and carries a sketchbook.

I could easily see her making a deal with Satinder, getting lodging for a month or so in exchange for work on the business of his establishment, wall paintings or the such while also leaving her free to study the surrounding area.

This is the Lady of the Lake, Varisiel Edrasseril and her eidolon, The Green Knight.

Having heard that there is finally a noble party in the Stolen Lands, Varisiel has ridden out from Hemlock Island to meet them. Not knowing what to suspect, she hopes that they represent an end to her time as the Lady of the Like, for good or ill.

Varisiel uses her Aspect power to become aquatic when in the lake. Now that she is on land she has taken on a pair of wings that she might keep up with her Knight.

For his part, Viktor Medyved is a towering knight in full armor atop a noble warhorse. Inhumanly silent, his empty armor is wreathed in fog and mist, eternally guarding the Lady of the Lake.

I hope that you like the character. As a Summoner, she is an arcane caster and will hopefully meet your needs. She only has one item creation feat (arms and armor) but can take more if needed. She is currently focused on archery and will use her spells as a buffer for the rest of the party.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will try to follow this thread until you pick a replacement for your party.

Best wishes!

Is this world Golarion? I was not sure that a Mwangi Expanse even existed. This is limiting my ability to flesh out my background. The character is 10th level but my personal information on the world setting is based on playing part way through the first book.

Thanks. In the end it comes down to the character though, doesn't it. *)

Hopefully I've given you a sense of who she is. I originally made her a magus, but couldn't work in the Green Knight that way and I think they are vital to each other.

Picking characters for a campaign is always tough. I don't envy you.

If selected I'll be naming my submission Raveneau Delahaye This is Mark Sweetman

Appearance:
Raveneau cuts a lithe figure, though his size is partially hidden by his garb of silk in green and blue. It is light and catches upon the breeze, dancing around his elven form. As he walks his feet seem to barely leave impression as he pads with smooth and elegantly controlled movements. The flaxen hair upon his head is pulled into a short queue that is forestalled against escape by a black velvet ribbon.

In contrast to his delicate frame though is his face, angular features marred by duelling scars sustained from blade and stave. Lines etched into his features suggest a great many years of severe expressions, but at present his eyes flash with puck-ish tinge and a nascent smile threatens to expose itself.

Background and Personality:
Raveneau was once within the bosum of the Calistrian elves of Kyonin. Years spent in pursuit of lust, freedom and the perpetuation of cycles of revenge that spun through decades of duels and verbal sparring. Aptitude always came easily to him, and he was never forced to apply himself to his arcane study - instead the word and act was as easy as drawing breath to him.

Much of that arrogance is gone, though the soul of a dancer remains. Events of his youth leading to the ways of Kyonin becoming barred to him and the loneliness of the trail calcifying negative thoughts of his early devotion... Calistria was cast aside. His word and blade saw his body fed and nourished, but his soul languished in blackness until it was Ashava that saved him.

By the light of the moon in the shadow of a burial mound it was that Raveneau encountered a Lillend of Ashava... and discovered with it a calling that filled that which was empty within. Through dance, song and phrase his mind and heart were filled with the worship of a being as lonely as he... and yet still filled with purpose. Morning broke with the only tangible remains a single ribbon of black velvet... and a vivid image of two stags beside a figure wreathed in flame.

From then to now Raveneau has changed but not changed. Still he travels the wilds of the world, but now with a purpose.

Motivation:
Raveneau is motivated by the memory gifted by the lillend to find the people to which the stags and figure of flame represent (Two Erastil worshippers and a Sarenrite).
Elements of his narcissistic upbringing remain, but he is now seeking to find purpose within his actions... a means to affect those beyond himself.

gm do you see any holes in Agrona's story that you want to see filled?

I know some GMs do that during selection, but I prefer not to. Instead I look at the applications at the same time with the same expectations for all.

If this is still open Id like to add Syndir to the aplicants list. I can recrunch him to the requirements easily. He's headed for Dragon Disciple and more Sorcerer levels to round out the 10.

Syndir Apep

How would you feel about a Arcane savant wizard? I got the summoners Simulacrum spell with Esoteric Magic. If you have any empty government positions he can fill them with Simulacrum. Also he can make weaker copies of the party to watch things in the kingdom while we are out adventuring.

Oran Everywhere is an innovator that has plans to modernize the kingdom. He has plans to start indoor plumbing, limited electricity and fast communication systems. Also he has some serious knowledge skills.

I'm sorry but I can't accept an incomplete application (level 5 vs 10). Among the different reasons, the main one is fairness to the other applicants. I hope you understand.

I look forward to see a complete application though.

I'm ok with Paizo material fictionfan, as long as it works well with the existing characters and story.

Looking forward to see your application.

Please note that recruitment ends in roughly 19 hours.

If you have something in the oven and will need a short extension, just let me know that it's coming.

Only missing part of my application is crunch - but he'll be a fairly standard magus build crunch wise, High Dex and Int, Weapon Finesse and a focus more towards the utility side of the Magus list apart from some decent fire touch spells.

Not quite done. But working on it should be done soon.

Similarly I'm not quite done with Derevi, my Magaambyan Arcanist, but I should make it.

I have everything picked out but the spells (I know the most important part). It would be helpful if I knew if I would be able to craft myself a blessed book.
edit
I have finished making the character.
Oran Everywhere is from Numeria. He grew up hearing the tales of the faded Numeria civilization. He has worked hard to gain the knowledge and power to try and bring that civilization back. He heard of the PC's new Kingdom and decide that it was vibrant enough to have a chance of growing into a bacon of civilization yet still small enough that they would welcome his help. To that end Oran has traveled over to offer his services. He is particularly interested in the kobolds. With their rapid breeding rates and short maturation rates the might be able to being about great change in a short time if steered correctly.

Would like to roleplay the application process

Oran Everywhere also has Litany of Righteousness on his spell list from Esoteric Magic and since this party has two characters with good aura that should be awesome to behold.

If we both get in it's a 3rd with Good aura. Even more since I'll be summoning Good outsiders.
