A Ravenloft book fell from the shelves right on top of me during the quake; wasn't sure if I was supposed to interpret that as a sign of impending doom, or that I have to run a game there.

Seriously, though, glad you are okay. I know Chile takes it's earthquake preparation seriously - an earthquake of that intensity would be devastating in most places.

Have you considered making Azalin Rex and Vecna one and the same to avoid having two powerful necromancer dark lords in Ravenloft? Maybe Azalin Rex is sort of shadow/clone/simulacrum of the original Vecna... Simulacrum would explain why he can't learn and advance anymore...

Other than a few broken cups and a cat so scared I still can't get him to move from under the bed, I'm in perfect condition. A Ravenloft book fell from the shelves right on top of me during the quake; wasn't sure if I was supposed to interpret that as a sign of impending doom, or that I have to run a game there.
The shake was 8.4 on the Richter scale and lasted for about 2 minutes; there were some six or seven aftershocks above 6.0 (3 above 7.0). The ground should keep moving for the rest of the week.
Though sadly there have been 8 confirmed deaths nationwide, damage was minimal.

That's actually a very interesting idea. My original plan was not to involve Vecna yet (the Citadel is abandoned), but I have a couple of Ravenloft fans in the game who might really appreciate such a twist.

Now, my wife and her parents need to track down her niece and nephew (who are unfortunately estranged from my brother-in-law), so they can sign off on the cremation. Evidently, in the state of North Carolina, the children are supposed to sign off on it, or they have to wait 10 days. That seems really weird, but I guess there might be a good reason for it.

My favorites were Berserk and GravitarMy stepfather was a techie, so we had a computer in the late 80s. I used to type my papers in a DOS-based word processor, and brought them to school with the tractor-feed still attached so everyone would know it came from a computer.
Also, it had Dig-Dug.
That reminds me.
WHen i was little my mom's best friend was considerably wealthier than us and had a computer for her daughter, who was a friend of mine growing up.
My god.

Space Quest.
Battle Chess.
Breakout.
Space Invaders.
Pool/Billiards.
Fantasy Baseball.
So many fun games.
For a long time, the only games I knew of were the ones on Atari and the ones on computer.

Unfortunately we needed a controller to play those. We lacked a controller.
I could not play Robotron until I had a couple of Mt. Dew's, that game was intense

Our entire fast food repertoire is dictated by whether or not Impus Major has ever had a major "event" there:
Anyway, all kinds of fun letting your kids dictate your fast food preferences. At the moment, we pretty much don't do ANY food chains any more, which is the problem with raising food snobs...
EDIT: Similar to CY, there are a few chains I won't frequent due to their strong "Right-Wing Christian" tenets. Chick-Fil-A and Carl's Jr. come to mind on that list.

Growing up in the Midwest and living on the West Coast for five years as well as spending close to a month of our honeymoon in California, i can say with complete confidence even your fast food is still better then in the Midwest (i'm sure the East Coast would curb stomp the Midwest too, but i've never been)
Anyhow, we never really ate out much in Wisconsin but man did we in Seattle! between the awesome fish at Ivars, the Fish Tacos everywhere! (which if anyone has a great Fish Taco sauce or recipe i would love that!) and the awesomeness of Dick's Burgers' Pumpkin shakes and spectacular burgers, man.
Now that we're back in the Midwest we never eat out, because my wife and i can cook circles around anything around here. there are a couple of great restaurants downtown but i've worked at them and seen how full their roach traps get:-D (downtown Madison is infested! has been for years, there's a reason only students live down there:-D)
Yeah there's actually a lot of places i boycott, Starbucks (because they bought out the rents for all the local coffee shops we used to have, do you know how hard it was living in Seattle and never so much as setting foot in a Starbucks, they're everywhere!), Chick-Fil-A, Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens (see Starbucks), Hardees (we don't have Carl Jr. but its the same company) Taco Bell (its disgusting!) Best Buy (That's a long story!), um, shoot can't think of anymore off the top of my head.
Wow that took me eighteen minutes to write.

I go to pretty much everything on that list pretty regularly. At the very least I can't imagine getting by very well without at least Walmart and CVS or Walgreens. The others (minus Starbucks) are less necessary but still something I stop by at least often enough to recall.
Out of curiosity, where do you do your grocery shopping? For me it's pretty much a choice between Walmart and Aldi, and Aldi is very hit or miss on whether you can get what you want there, even if it does tend to be slightly cheaper.

I did have a Checkers burger for the first time last night, though. Was craving a hamburger and Mom convinced me to try that out (by telling me where it was, I'm really bad for finding locations that aren't immediately on my usual driving routes) instead of Sonic.
It was pretty good, and it's not horribly out of my way. Debating going there again on the way home from work today.

We grocery shop at a few places
-Target (i know they probably aren't much better then Wal-Mart, but its hella close, also our Pharmacy, don't know what to do bout the impending CVS merger yet)
-Copps, again its close by and relatively cheap
-Metcalfe's Sentry (only when something is on sale, otherwise it's too uppity and overpriced)
Knoches Market, a super cool quaint mom and pop operation a couple blocks away with a butcher dept. supplied entirely by local farmers, supplies every bar in a 2 mile radius (there is a lot of bars in that radius! a lot!) also other then my best friend that brews our only source of booze (5 bucks for a four pack of Sprecher's Hard Rootbeer is impossible to beat.
-Woodmans, the infamous 24 hour grocery store (because its literally the only 24 hour grocery store in town, has the biggest supply and cheapest prices, the only place to get bulk outside of Costco or Sam's Club (i should note i love Costco but it's far enough that going there enough to justify the membership is frustrating, not that we didn't try:-D)
We don't shop at Aldi's, i've had bad experiences there:-)

i have a habit of calling "realms" what d20 would call planes, which is strange since 'realm' is actually of Old French origin and I usually use this word in the context of 'realms' in my stories based on Germanic mythology. I'm having trouble finding an Old English word for such a concept, though.

these things can range from the size of worlds, to entire universes, to simply encompassing a single mere and some surrounding forest.
The latter is the home of grendel's mother and is shrouded in eternal winter. For a time it is bēowulf's prison.

There is good food to be had on the West Coast, but I don't think it's better. Of course, I am spoiled by the NY restaurant scene.
The West Coast restaurant scene can be very creative, and often good, but the East Coast scene wins on the classics - French and Italian, for instance.
My experience is definitely consistent with the Midwest being a culinary wasteland, however.

In other news, I am working on finalizing my long-term DM plotline for my NWN server. Wanted to let FAWTL get a look, I can't really talk about it with anyone in NWN except Ebon and Scint (my Co-DMs) for obvious spoiler reasons. There have to be some adjustments to many of the plots, in part to fit them into the server's Faerun setting and in part due to the limitations of NWN not allowing certain monsters, locations, and so forth.
Also, because I am a colossal nerd, I made the decision some time back to give each plotline its own soundtrack based on various video game soundtracks (since that's what I listen to, more often than not), and to name all the individual quest events after the track names.
A. Heart of Melting Magic - a personal quest for a half-fiend PC looking to find and slay his father... who happens to be the Balor Ammet, the Heart of Blasphemy, once the demonic heart that sustained the life of the infamous red dragon Ashardalon. Ammet is accompanied and served by The Cathezar, the semi-legendary half-devil/half-demon, who is willing to do anything to keep this upstart half-mortal from interrupting her and her master's plans. (Soundtrack: Final Fantasy IX)
B. Ones Hidden In The Darkness - another character's personal request. This one did a dumb some time ago: she and a companion found a demonic brain in an ogre shrine and decided the best thing to do would be to eat it! Now the brain and the other dismembered body parts of a powerful fiend - Lynkhab, Lady of Regrets, one of the former contenders for the throne of Queen of Succubi - are seeking to become whole once again, and using their "hosts" as puppets, drive them toward the goal of destroying one another to harvest the different Fragments and eventually reform anew. (Soundtrack: Grandia 2)
Part 2: Temporal Backlash
A. Rise of the Runelords - the archmage rulers of the Netherese city-network of Thassilon have begun to awaken from their long stasis, exiles, entombments, and/or slumbers, with the first of course being Karzoug the Runelord of Greed. Aided by his network of giant minions and yuan-ti cultists, he begins making strides to re-establish his command in modern-day Cormyr. (Soundtrack: Chrono Trigger)
B. Dead Sun - a sleeping eldritch terror known as Father Llymic has woken once before, but his deadly Brood and the small cult of Shar who pledged themselves to seeing him awaken were beaten back before. But now Father Llymic is near to waking again, stirred by the rousing of ancient magic and the brewing of demonic potential, and when he wakes, the sun will go dark and winter will seize first Cormyr then the world perpetually. (Soundtrack: Cave Story)
Interlude: The Worldwound Opens - Between the pressures of demonic energies, the cruel unnatural winter of Father Llymic, and the rousing of ancient Netherese magic, a demonic mage named Oliani has finally gathered the sacrifices and energies she needs to turn a region of the Stonelands known as Lightning Peak into a focal point for an Abyssal incursion. There the Worldwound will open, heralded by the newly-ascended nascent demon lord Deskari, Lord of the Locust Host. For the time being there is not much players will be able to do other than continue to try to beat back the tide, and the nearby village of Eagle Peak will soon be converted into a headquarters, bastion, barracks, and staging ground for crusaders and heroes attempting to stem the tide.
C. The Waking Rune - roused by the resurrection of Karzoug and the purging of Father Llymic, the scattered cultists of Krune, Runelord of Sloth, will begin the process of locating their master's long-lost tomb and beginning his revival. (Soundtrack: Star Ocean 2)
D. The Serpent that Devours the Horizon - the Yuan-Ti of Hlondeth, led by the sinister Serpent Sibyl, have discovered a fragment of a powerful psionic weapon that they hope to make use in their genocidal ambitions. Unbeknownst to them, this fragment belongs to an intelligent weapon, the living engine of destruction known as Pandorym, and it seeks eagerly to be fully freed and allowed to complete its original mission... which is no less destructive and devastating. (Soundtrack: Bravely Default)
E. Stone of Great Price - quick on Krune's heels comes Belimarius, Runelord of Envy. Following her revival from her petrification and the entombment of herself and her court, Belimarius swiftly selects a mortal champion through guile, temptation, and magic; this young protege is quickly empowered with the ability to steal talents from those she defeats. Little does she know that Belimarius is seeking a younger body to rule this new future world with and that her efforts are merely preparing her to become the Runelord in more ways than one. (Soundtrack: Final Fantasy X, X-2)
Part 3: The Crest of Truth
A. A Light from the Netherworld - a magnificent Titan named Xanthe has become host to a shard from the Slaad ancient Ssendam. Corrupted by its presence, she embarks on a mad scheme to steal power from an even greater entity, the Outer Being known as Tsathoggua, in hopes of bringing it back to Ssendam's whole and urging it to evolve and change into something even greater than a Slaad Lord. Yet in the remnants of sanity in Xanthe's mind, she is convinced the power must be tested on lesser beings first before it can be properly understood and brought back to Ssendam's whole; thus she has come to Faerun to experiment upon its hapless denizens. (Soundtrack: Xenogears and Xenoblade)
B. Carrion Crown - the dead walk, the beasts hunt, and the outer eyes watch as Zutha, Runelord of Gluttony, stirs in his ancient tomb. What first appears as a series of unfortunate sinister but disparate events is eventually revealed to be the machinations of the Runelord's descendants, eager to fuel his return to unlife and to power. (Soundtrack: Valkyrie Profile)
C. A Hollow Mountain - while her brothers and sister Runelords have woken and immediately begun their scheming, laboring, and reaching for power, Alaznist, Runelord of Wrath, has been waiting and watching. Long ago the ancient sorceress dissolved her physical body into elemental energy, allowing her to dwell within and travel between the Runewells with ease, and thus survive the fall of Netheril. As her rivals have sought to rebuild their power, they have been inadvertently been swelling hers, as Alaznist draws her lifeforce now from the pure energy of all the Runewells and her bonds to the Elemental Planes. Now, seeing four of the seven fall before the lands, she believes it is her time to strike. (Soundtrack: Final Fantasy IV and V)
D. Shattered Star - With five of the seven Runelords defeated, the namesake of their ancient symbol of rule, the Sihedron, has begun to surface. Knowing the lost artifact could hold amazing power as well as answer countless questions of Netheril, Thassilon, the Runelords, and more, the hunt is on to gather the shards of the Shattered Star and rebuild the ancient weapon and symbol of Thassilonian rule. Yet as each piece is gathered, an ancient will begins to waken, a will that remembers the power and weight of such a crown. (Soundtrack: Final Fantasy VI)
Part 4: The Calm Before the Storm
A. Arisen Anew - The dead walk freely. Yet it is not dark magic or negative energy that empowers them, nor a mockery of a bound soul that gives them thought and will; rather, an ancient wall between reality and unreality has been breached, and creatures banished beyond even the reach of the gods, wills trapped in nothingness for all eternity, have somehow reached back into this reality and taken the dead and dying to be their vessels. The Vestiges of the void have returned to the worlds they were banished from, and walk arisen anew among the living. (Soundtrack: Homestuck)
B. Curse of the Crimson Throne - the barren, empty Stonelands is a wild, untamable land yet unclaimed despite countless efforts of blood and toil. C. Savage Tide - at long last, it all leads up to this. Either first Cormyr and then all of Faerun falls to chaos, or the greatest fiend to ever have existed crumbles before the might of mortal men. Here is where it all ends. (Soundtrack: Final Fantasy VII and VIII)
WHEW. Good grief, that took forever to type. And it'll probably take forever to run... but that's the plan. The exact order isn't necessarily set in stone, but I think I'm mostly past the point of major adjustments.
