2k Blog Announcement

I'm excited for this, is anyone else? I mean, you get to play as Claptrap... AWESOME!!!

Borderlands is one of my favorite game. I have heard that its very enjoyable to play as Claptrap, but I have never played with it, so I am excited to play as Claptrap. To see some of the examples view platinumplatypus.com

Looking forward to this like heck!

Damn I misread that you get to kill claptrap. Over and over and over again, with more and more ridiculously destructive weaponry.

The only downside is that you are helping HANDSOME JACK! Wilheim and The Sheriff as characters?

what's bad about that? Handsome Jack was THE BEST villain EVER in the history of ANYTHING...

You know... I wonder if the original Vault Hunters will be bosses we have to fight in this one? Maybe as DLC?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Maybe. They apparently fought Wilhelm at one point and lost (a fact which when it came up I immediately went "BULL F++~ING S$$*" but still, it's apparently canon).

But yeah, the big catch is that we'd be working for Handsome Jack, and I still can't get over the fact that he killed my favorite character (Bloodwing, not Roland) and I didn't get to make him die a horribly painful, violent, and prolonged death.

I'm not so sure, to be honest. In some audio that was deleted from BL2, Jack informs the VH that he poisoned Wilhelm, sacrificing him to bring down Sanctuary.

I think one issue is people think of what level ~60 BLVH could do, instead of going with, what I think is the canon depictions, level ~30 VH of the first play through. At the end of the first play through, BL1 VH have ~500 HP/~500 shield.

When the BL2 VH encounter Wilhelm, they are level ~15, depending on how many quests they did and how much they grind, and have between 500 and 800 HP and 500 and 800 shield. So at level 15, when the BL2 VH fight Wilhelm, they are, based off health/shield equal to the BL1 VH when they fought the Destroyer.

As they increase in levels it only gets even worse. I mean, by the time you're 50, you've got a combined total of nearly 200,000? Where as the BL1 VH have a combined total of like ~5,000?

So with that in mind, I think that Wilhelm *could* have defeated the other 4 vault hunters, we just never see him when he's at his full power.

As long as there is no claptrap, I will be delighted.

Players can also choose from Nisha the Lawbringer (the future Sheriff of Lynchwood) and the most unpredictable character of all…

Playable Claptrap?!: For the first time ever, play as the most emotionally dependent robot in all of Pandora! This combat-ready Claptrap has been reprogrammed for love and war. Okay, mostly war. Awww nuts. Not playing.

Seriously? You can enter into Duels and kill CL4P-TP again, and again, and again...

What's not to love?

Pretty sure one of his death cries will be NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!

Stairs, His one weakness!

Why duel? Just play him. And kill yourself to see him die in hilarious ways, again and again and again... With commentary by claptrap!

Yes, yes, we get it already, you won't play anything unless it's made to your exact specifications.

I was surprised to see that this would be on 360. I figured they would stop releasing stuff for the "old" console. Pleased to be wrong.

They're releasing this for the 360 because there is a larger playerbase on the 360.

Tels wrote:

Right, I understand that. It just seems like the sort of release that they'd want on the new console to try to bring more people to it. I can see both sides of the issue, and I'm happy they chose the side they did.

Honestly? I think one of the big things that it comes down to is that they started work on BL:PS before they got a hold of the Xbox One systems and didn't want to scrap and have to re-work all of it. It was probably one of those scenarios where they were 70% of the way done with it when they got a hold of Xbox One and figured they'd just go ahead and continue with the 360 as they were nearly done anyway.

======================

On a different topic, I wonder how they're going to handle the concept of lasers and the ice element? It always bugs me when a series does a prequel and the prequel has more advanced technology than the original.

I mean, if the laser weapons and the ice element were available before BL2, why aren't they present in the game? It'll really bug me if they don't address this in the game.

Easily addressed, as it's Hyperion tech.

Hyperion tech is a lot more advanced than what they go selling to every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a fat wallet. I mean, look at all the stuff they have. A floating moon base, teleporting cargo drops, robots (some of which fire teh laz0rs), and so on.

Not really that much of a stretch for an elite team of Hyperion badasses to be outfitted with some better than standard tech.

And maybe some crates of stuff got lost, or something.

If they drop from regular dudes, there'll probably be a throw away line about how they're really neat but tend to be unreliable/explode on people who misuse them or something and the first bandit that picks up a supply crate full of them or whatever shoots himself in the face with the contents, freezes, and dies.

Though really, is an ice element even more ADVANCED tech than flaming, shocking, corrosive, and explosive bullets?

Except that there are BANDIT Lasers, Dahl Lasers and Maliwan Lasers all shown in the various videos I've watched since the announcement. So Hyperion is not hoarding the laser technology. Same thing for the Ice element guns.

For the ice element, I could see them saying something like ice element doesn't function on Pandora (too hot maybe?) so that's why it's on the Moon but not in BL2.

Another aspect is that, maybe the Moon is an experimental weapons facility that is co-run by all the other manufacturers, and that part of the Pre-Sequel is Hyperion taking it over so they can get an edge over the other manufacturers.

I know there are many ways they could explain it, which I'm fine with. It's just, if they don't bother explaining why the technology doesn't exist in BL2, it will really annoy me.

Something I thought of that I hope doesn't happen is that we deliever a beatdown on Dr.Tannis. Jack said that he and Wilheim beat the tar out of her to get some info.

You know, it might be that the Ceiling Chairs are a boss enemy?

One of my minor disappointments with Borderlands 2 was that there was no ceiling chair in the Crimson Raiders headquarters as an easter egg.

I hope Angel is in this one some way. Out of Roland, Bloodwing, and her she was the one I was most upset about what happened. It sucked even worse that what happened to Roland and her occurred barely more than a minute apart. I'd like to think that when I took Jack out in the game that a good part of it was justice for her along with everybody else.

Plus, I think she would have made an awesome siren character for Borderlands 3.

It is during the opening trailer that they fight Jack and Wilhelm and loose which is how they end up in the frozen wastes to be found by Claptrap.

In the opening trailer they fight a bunch of robots and get blown up by a trap set by Jack, they don't actually fight either of them.

The original Vault Hunters fought Wilhelm and lost though.

Also 9 1/2 minute intro to Borderlands the Pre-Sequel. Featuring Sir Hammerlock and Mr. Torgue as they talk about different aspects of the game and cover the skills of the characters. Plus, Mr. Torgue memes.

Your talking about Roland, Lilith, Brick and Mordecai from BL1 then.

DLC character announcement, you can play as Handsome Jack's body-double.

Where is that info?

Info.

Thanks.

Who are you planning on playing through your first playthrough? I am thinking of giving Claptrap a whirl.

Probably Claptrap or Athena. I like Athena because I tend to favor suppoer/defensive characters, but Claptrap looks like a lot of fun. Nisha and Wilhelm just feel like DPS characters to me. They can be fun, but I just prefer to also bring characters that can aid the whole group.

I mean, when you play BL2 online, you know that someone who is playing Zer0 is going to do lots of damage, but usually isn't going to be helping out beyond just killing stuff. Where as when someone brings Maya into the group, you know she's likely going to be able to buff the whole party with some of her abilities, especially her long range Rez.

I'll eventually be playing them all though. That's for certain.

Ok the question on what class I'll be playing first in the pre-sequel has been answered. Link.

~laughter~ Yes it has.

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel comes out tomorrow. There goes a few hundred hours of my life. ~sighs~

I have Destiny and the Pre-Sequel to deal with :(

Humans don't need sleep, right?

Not for me... I have a birthday coming up soon *sigh*. The wife has stopped my self purchasing pending the b-day.

It also comes out Friday. *sigh*

Friday? It's out here now, just finished a couple hours of it. Fun stuff!

Sovereign Court

Destiny sucks, so, Borderlands?

Aleron wrote:

Presumably I'm not in your "here", then. There's more than one "here" out there, after all, and they are not releasing the game to all "heres" at the same time.

Sovereign Court

No need to be bitter about it. Also steam is the same everywhere.

Hama wrote:

No it isn't.

Well, sorry, but if I get it in Serbia, I can't believe that it isn't available everywhere else.

It's the back end of the world.

Hama wrote:

Steam is releasing the game on the 17th, in Europe. Why Steam doesn't think Serbia is in Europe is anyone's guess. But "steam is the same everywhere" hasn't been true for, like, 10 years.

Edit: Just checked the store page and now it says 16th (which, incidentally, is also the release date in Australia last I checked). They probably mean Oct 16. 23:59:59 though.

As for why they would not release simultaneously everywhere? Beats me. They did for Borderlands 2.

Sorry to hear about the screwed up release date, Slaunyeh. Hopefully you get it soon.

Sharoth wrote:

1 day and 9 hours! :D

Has anyone playing notice the drop rates of green, blue, and purple items are almost ludicrously high? I've run all 4 characters up level 10 to 15 and each one has at least 2 to 3 purple items, 4 to 6 blue and the rest green (I haven't even spent any of my gold keys). I've' noticed that green loot drops almost as much or slightly more than than white does and the vending machines now usually have purple items as the special of the day. It's almost to the point that the only rare loot is orange, it's almost making the game too easy.

Haven't had the chance to play much. I promised to play through the story with a friend first but we've been having conflicting schedules as of late.
