Interesting. Loved the old series, especially the episode/s with the Space Rats (space bikers)...

How do you deal with the idea that Blake and Avon are downloaded personalities used by the federation to manage social upheval?

Not happening. They still have the rights, but the development deals (first with a New Zealand TV company, then SyFy) have been shot down. The fan reaction was universally negative as well, after it became clear they were seriously toning the show down (Blake being framed for the murder of his wife rather than being a child molestor) and making the setting way too close to the present day (the reboot is only set 150 years in the future, as opposed to the 900-odd years of the original).

A new B7 would be a great idea, but so far these guys have shown they don't understand the property at all.

It might have worked as the first Blake uprising...where some genius realizes that a terrorist leader will result in a technology toolup period leading to new economic growth only if those opposed to new growth feel the threat of the terrorist outways the importance of their current way of thinking and doing things...

The galaxy bit's ok, pity the Liberator (ie the important bit) is rubbish.

Cheers

In a vacuum (pun intended :P), it's a gritty, cool looking spaceship. In comparison to the original, WTF is that thing?

Just to play Devil's Advocate, the new series/movie is supposed to take place long after the original. Who knows what an alien spacecraft looks like then, and it may even be a new craft from a different alien civilization. On top of that, the original series never had the kind of budget necessary to do the concept justice. The original Liberator is nothing to write home about, so I can see why they'd want to cut loose a little now that the budget is bound to be substantially larger.

At the end of the day, though, the core audience for this thing will be fans of the original. Whatever Liberator makes it to the screen next had better be instantly recognizable by fans as a throwback to the original.

The sequel series idea was abandoned about a decade ago. All of the recent attempts to get the show moving again have been day one reboots of the concept.

Liberty's Edge

I still enjoy the apocryphal story of the Blake's 7 crew trying to film at the usual BBC Gravel Quarry Planet they used in the 70s and 80s for their many alien planets, but they kept picking up sound on the other side of the rocks they were filming at. Gareth Roberts goes over to investigate...

...and finds Tom Baker, in full Fourth Doctor costume, on the other side of the rocks, trying to figure out what was messing with the sound on that day's Doctor Who filming.

Also, Tom wanted to actually put Blake in the Tardis in one episode-- they just pass by each other with a "Hello, Rog." "Hello, Doc."
