Ok now... REALLY?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I'm in a thread and a bunch of people get bent out of shape/calling each other names over how one does or doesn't justify limiting playable races in their game.

Really?

I know the snarky sarcasticon response: that's what these boards are for or whatever. But c'mon, REALLY? Are gamers more sensitive or prone to outbursts than anyone else? Is this what WE are as a collective group?

Please: read the rules for the boards, there's ONLY 3. Otherwise remember what our parents/schoolteachers/guardian types taught us: be kind, or be quiet.

Are you telling people how to post?

Are you insinuating that their posting is wrongbadfun?

Ok now... REALLY?

Hello Mark Hoover, let me be the first to welcome you to the Internet. Also, collective? Really?

I know I know... this is what the internetz iz and such. But REALLY? "The sky is blue." "No, it's white with blue tones; you're an idiot and [redacted]"

In the immortal words of Gob: C'MON!

I find this offensive.

You know what get's my goat? The use of REALLY. The proper adverb to use is SERIOUSLY. As in "Are you seriously telling me this?" reduced to a word. Put REALLY in there and you begin questioning a reality that you are actually responding to. It doesn't make much sense. ;)

So without further ado: Ok now...SERIOUSLY? You think this area of the internet is worse than others? Have you SEEN what is out there? This is a blessed garden of Eden compared to most boards.

EDIT: Oh I know where you are coming from, but people have been declaring that others are having "wrong-bad-fun" since gamer messageboards were created.

+100000! If he's going to viciously attack our differently logicked posting technique, he could at least tag his post with a #triggerwarning.

Bahh.. I question reality all the time!!!

Something... just feels... off.

First we have to be more sensitive, and now we have to be less sensitive?

I'm so offended confused.

/cry

But yeah, seriously.

Nerdrage over which imaginary friends other people choose to play with...you stay classy, internet!

Oh Mark... what optimism you have towards the internet...

Pennywise the Friendly Clown told me you'd say that.

If you ask me, a bigger obstacle to productive discussion is the people arguing over the tone of a post rather than its topic. Lamely saying "that's mean/rude/offensive" is pointless even when it's true.

Honestly, I share that optimism when it comes to these boards. This is a good place, and can be more so with a modicum of effort.

Keep on rollin' Mark.

The thread doesn't seem that bad... but it's just moving SO FAST I can't chime in at all. Everytime I refresh the page there are at least 20 replies.

That's because like many of these threads there are people that aren't reading what is being written, they are latching onto something to post angrily about.

Hey, I'm reading every [censored] word, who are YOU to tell me I'm not people! "Many of these" - Is that supposed to be some kind of insult to my parentage????

Hey, I'm reading every [censored] word...

Shenanigans. Implicit Shenanigans.

If you only read the censored ones, you people are missing the [censored] point.

p.s. How many times do we have to ask for a sarcasm font before somebody gives us one? doesn't the internet have a FAQ or something?

everything I type IS sarcasm...I was a Drill sgt (for a couple rotations), I can't get that out of my programming now. :)

Better you than me, mate. I could never get the hang of talking in ALL CAPS every day. I just did the AIT cadre bit, we got to do the subtle sarcasm.

Knox drill and Sill AIT, but I was the only Drill Sgt. in my cadre with combat deployments, and I was kinda a softy on the guys..no reindeer games, unless they REALLY pissed me off, then it was smokehouse time, till 3 inches of sweat on the killzone. :)

Anyway battle..there are civilians watching....:)

The first thing my drill sergeant [Training Instructor..Air Force] told us was that I will remember his name until the day I die...

Tech Sergeant Balmer and Staff Sergeant Rodriguez...1983 Lackland AFB.

I've forgotten my own mother's birthday...but I will NEVER forget their names.

The thread is about 900 offending posts long.

My mouse isn't up to that.

Whelp i am not really that anonymous, but i dont get into a lot of fights on the internet (except with raiderrpg, but he is fun to argue with). So maybe there is merit to that theory.

Locking. Response threads really aren't helpful and don't encourage the friendly and inviting community that we'd like these messageboards to be.
