Of course the announcement is causing their server to crash.

Actually looking forward to this, just to see how they expand the pretty rote story WotR brought forward. With Kingmaker they really got a good story out of what also was a pletty flat story (without massive GM investment into expanding it), so I am pretty confident that they'll do a good job.

Also, of course, I am quite interested how they handle the broken Mythic rules. ^^ Apparently only the main character gets mythic powers, so that's a plus already over the tabletop AP.

I just hope they don't this time remove lots of NPCs from original AP story :P

definitely gonna buy it when it comes out, but this time gonna wait for the Turned Based mod to play it.

Liberty's Edge

You might not have to, they sent out a survey last month that asked about what people liked/didn't like/want in a sequel, and sought out opinions specifically on turn-based gameplay. Between the Divinity games and PoE2 just going straight for it, it might be easier to sell to higher ups.

Mark Moreland said on Facebook that they are doing their own interpretation of mythic.

Hmm? Did they remove lots of NPCs from original AP story in Kingmaker? But I thought they added lots of characters and stories to the game.

A bit surprised. Going for a classic straight up dungeon crawl like Runelords would be a great choice.

They removed lot of minor NPCs in favor of their own minor NPCs(and some of NPCs that DID show up weren't allowed to be leaders like how they were in AP) :p They also removed Fort Drelev completely, removed Bog Striders(book 4 in general got lot of stuff cut down for some reason), boggards(and friendly boggard Garuum) from base game, Nomen centaurs didn't appear in base game and were replaced by tiger lords in their original appearance, they removed the war in favor of non mass combat involving shenanigans of Irovetti doing schemes to sabotage your kingdom, they replaced lot of characters with Defaced Sisters which themselves were new additions, (and changed certain plot relevant Nereid to be related to Nyrissa instead of just being the guardian of the artifact), they also didn't make Briar to be usable weapon..

Like sure, it was helpful from point of view of still being able to play AP unspoiled, but they sure did lot of changes which involved removing lot of cool side stuff from AP in favor of their own non plot relevant sidequests :P They never even mentioned Count Ralnac in this CRPG version

Well, Arueshalae definitely is in this one, so count me as being happy about that.

On side note, I'm amused that Lann the only mongrelman with face portrait is apparently a party member now xP

The picture (full view here) is interesting. The balor is obviously intended to be Khorramzadeh, as the sword he is wielding looks very much like Noriznigrath (cf. City of Locusts, p. 63), though strangely he seems to be wielding an electricity whip instead of his normal flaming burst whip. It looks like the heroes are fighting him plus a horde of babaus, which is not an encounter in the original campaign, but OK, that's artistic license, I guess.

Recognizable characters are, Seelah obviously, as well as Arueshalae and the aforementioned Lann.

The elven(?) spellcaster in the center could be Aravashnial, but looks more female than male to me. I can't figure out the purple-haired gnome to the left (I don't think there is a single gnome in the campaign), the angel, and the full-helmeted, mace-wielding character in the front (Sosiel perhaps?), though.

Liberty's Edge

One is very likely a stand in for the player character. Kingmaker had art of a human male fighter they used as a stand in for the splash art and cutscenes.

I'd like to point out that vast majority of balors have jagged blade similar to that, since Noriznigath is supposed to be artifact version of balor style sword.(it was normal one that was used to kill lots of powerful demons :p)

The angel is PC since apparently angel is now a mythic path(along with lich). The other are pretty clearly new original characters.

Also According to Mark, Owlcat added stuff to allow for evil PCs. So that is already a major change considering this is practically the epitome of LG paladin ap...

No release date yet? Anyone know the time between Kingmaker's announcement and release?

Was so hoping it was going to be Council of Thieves for a true city based one by I will hold judgement to see what they can add. Hopefully it will stick to the system that was in place with Kingmaker using a minor variant of the pf1ed rules. More classes will always be welcome since it can change how you progress the story in your own playstyle.

Crimson Throne would be the best bet for city based

This campaign has the hope to be massive expanded. We can actually se fought the most important battles of the crusade, while in the base campaign this aspect was lost in book 4 and 5 to go plane hopping in order to stop the production of something that, at later levels, become almost irrelevant ...

CT spent two? books outside the city. CoT had 1 part out of the city. But I want something that can truly approach the magnitude of Althalka in Baldurs Gate 2. But I will see since I want to see how they implement book 1 and its mixture of story and optional missions.

I'd rather think Hell's Rebels. CotCT is a very fine AP (I am just now starting to run the anniversary edition and have run the original one for another group almost a decade ago), but it spends a lot of time outside of Korvosa and is rather dungeon heavy later on.

I didn't mind CotCT taking the plot outside the city much. Hell's Rebels does this too for a time, not as much though, but it has that terrible, terrible Vyre plot line.

Did you post anywhere why it was so terrible? Here it would be way OT. I'd love to avoid a landmine if I can.

At the time I played in that I wrote a bit about my displeasure here and here.

What? But the fancy weird party is one of the fun parts there D:

I disagree. I found that wildly out of place and tone for the AP and no fun at all. Participating in that debauchery and making nice with people who basically are exactly like what the PCs are supposed to be up against would have been totally out of character for my PC, and so he didn't.

By the way, in one of the threads Gorbacz alluded to something coming later in the module with "trust me, you'll like it", which I now guess, was referring to the Ruby Masquerade part of the adventure. Well I didn't. It was so obviously a setup and the only reason for the PCs to participate at all is so the AP doesn't get derailed. There is no sane reason otherwise for the PCs to actually go there.

In retrospect, there's really nothing about "Dance of the Damned" that I liked. It's a terrible adventure in an otherwise good AP

In your opinion <_< Still one of my favourite books in campaign

Actually to clarify: Have you read the book or just played it? Because if latter, I can't really tell based on that if my own memory is just crappy, we have difference of opinion, or your gm just didn't explain it well why you are trying to gather support for rebellion in Vyre.

Like, I could totally see player character in character not liking Vyre, but you are talking as if adventure itself is objectively bad because you (in and out of character) didn't like it.

Zaister is weird like that, every now and then he doesn't like awesome things. But I love him anyway.

I played in the AP, and I read it afterwards. I know why you are supposed to gather support in Vyre. It still doesn't really make sense to me. Similar how the adventure assumes that having a decrepit village of 150 low-level aquatic elves as allies somehow magically insures them against the full force of the Chelish navy.

And yes, I didn't like the adventure's plot in or out of character. I think it is a bad adventure, but that is subjective, not objective. I think Vyre is a terrible invention and a disgusting setting, and if I'd ever run Hell's Rebels as a GM, I will eradicate it from space-time completely. Unfortunately the plot of the AP makes it difficult to skip this adventure entirely, but I'd probably rework it heavily.

I think Dance of the Damned really is the Pathfinder adventure I disliked the most, even though there are worse ones. It's not a mess like Maiden, Mother, Crone, or, worst of all, City of the Seven Spears, but it the one I had the most visceral reaction of dislike against.

Thanks. I think I am on the side of the people who would like this part of the AP, but I'll be on the lookout what my players think of the idea.

Will we be allowed to romance any deities though?

Yes, but you have to make a DC 40 Fort save or take 30d6 and be unable to walk straight for a week

Half a week with the right build.
